I wrote last week that Fred Meyer really needs to work on ensuring customers are charged the advertised prices. At this point 4 of my last 6 trips required waiting in line to get a reimbursement for discounts not applied during checkout. I've attached my receipt to better illustrate the issue -- this morning I was charged $22.99 for a 6-pack of fire logs, rather than the posted "Low Price" of $19.99. I continue to raise my concerns, this time directly to a manager, who walked me over to customer service to return my money. The cashier simply handed me $3, paying no interest to the receipt or the tax charged (Is this process audit-worthy?) The manager I raised my concern to stated that he'll get with his auditing team to work on the issue. For the sake strengthening trust with their customer base, I really hope they do.

I haven't been to a Fred Meyer in a few years now and the last time I shopped at one, was in Oregon. If you haven't been to a Fred Meyer, it is a unique store in which it is a department store that sells apparel, home decor and furniture, barbecue, auto, garden related items, electronics, etc. But this store is a grocery store as well (and has a large dedicated area, which makes this a standout from Target and Walmart). Honestly, Fred Meyer reminds me of Fedco (department chain that was operated only in Southern California and closed in the late 90's) and really is a one stop, shopping destination since you can buy anything and everything here. It is really interesting that there is a small food court here, with chairs and tables upstairs in case you wish to eat your food purchase in store. My husband and I stopped by this store yesterday, just to browse. On this particular visit, all apparel was an additional 15% off (including clearance). Overall, we had a pleasant shopping experience and would shop here again, especially if we lived in this area.

I am actually quite heartbroken that the era of this particular Fred Meyer store and the Greenwood Market next door is coming to an end.

My wife and I were in a pinch to get our wedding dresses altered (due to taking a while finding the best dress) before our elopement in August. I reached out to several alterations places end of and they didn't have availability and were booking for fall weddings, it wasn't looking great. I was then referred to Iwona, and she was so reassuring and was very open to not only taking on my dress to be completed by Aug 1, but also my wife's dress. Iwona altered both of our dresses in tandem and kept both of them a secret to the other because we wanted a big surprise. Each of us went in for several quick sessions a few weeks in a row, it was so easy. She is a wizard at altering dresses, it is truly incredible the work she does. The number of hours and details and precision that goes into each dress that has to be exactly what the bride wanted. Iwona- you are truly so talented! I also typically do not like dresses and was not looking forward to wearing one when I was shopping, but when I met Iwona for initial consultation and talked about alterations, I felt reassured it could turn out really great. She made the dress I found come to life and feel so flattering through her alterations. She is so kind as a person and skilled at what she does, and I felt like we were on the same page the whole time. She even finished the dresses a few weeks before the date we decided just in case we wanted more adjustments. She absolutely puts 100% in her projects and is a powerhouse seamstress Iwona made me feel really beautiful in my dress and I can't thank you enough!! My wife's dress turned out so wonderfully, it was such a fun surprise to have a first look at our dresses and see Iwona's magic. I wish I had more dresses for Iwona to alter! I couldn't recommend Iwona enough for trusting someone with altering your wedding dresses. Thank you so much Iwona for your wonderful work and kindness.

She quoted me $3k to $3.5k at our…read moreconsultation, then sent a contract over for $4.5k, which after tax meant we were just shy of $5k. She pushed our initial fitting (my first time seeing the dress) until 10 days before the contractual completion date. It was supposed to be in October, but she pushed it to November, and then December, and went weeks without replying to my emails. I finally had my first fitting 1/4 (with a contractual completion date of 1/15). When I showed up for my initial fitting, the dress was a cheap Temu version of what we had agreed on. Specific things that were in our contract (like the shape of the bodice) were disregarded. I had to push back and advocate for myself to get the dress that was in our contract, and Madison returned by trying to charge me more money. 2: Madison didn't finish my dress until 2/17, a month after it was supposed to be done and only a week before my wedding. 3: Because this process had been such a nightmare, and I (like most brides) was in new territory that I'd never had to deal with before, I had shared my experience in the r/weddingplanning subreddit. A dress shop owner who had followed the whole saga sent me a message letting me know that my $5k "couture" "one of a kind" dress was AVAILABLE ON A CHINESE SITE FOR $599. !!!!!!!!!!! You might get the impression from her website or her storefront that everything is made by her or a team of skilled craftspeople here in Ballard. This is not the case. Madison actually uses a Chinese company called Brydealo to manufacture her "custom" "one of a kind" "couture" gowns. After Brydealo manufactures them, they then wholesale them to both dress shops and the general public. All of their dresses sell for under $600, including mine. This made SO much sense. The finishing on my dress was awful - it looks like a dog chewed it off a bolt of fabric. It's made entirely with cheap, dollar store Halloween costume polyester. The thread used to sew the dress was not the same color as the dress itself (white thread on a magenta dress) making for unsightly seams. The delay in Madison "making" my dress was clearly the result of using an overseas manufacturer. When I texted Madison to ask why my "couture" "one of a kind" gown was for sale on a Chinese site for about a tenth of what she tried to charge me, she replied by saying she didn't like the tone of my text and she was choosing to end correspondence with me. No attempt to take responsibility for her actions. No explanations. No "oh yeah, sometimes it makes more sense to work with sewists over seas". Nothing. Listen: the vast majority of gowns are manufactured overseas. There is nothing inherently "wrong" with that. But what Madison is doing is deceptive and she is taking advantage of brides who don't know how this process should work. Avoid at all costs.

I purchased the dress (Maroon by Provonias) secondhand, so I knew it'd need to be fitted. But I was also hoping to change it from the lacey/tulle sleeves, to an off-the-shoulder. Not a small task! Madison got it fitted perfectly to my body, made sure it would stay up with subtle corset boning, hung the lace from the sleeves as beautiful off-the-shoulder pieces, and gave my a stunning 3-point bustle. I was completely blown away.
