Large, new Safeway store. Free parking below. Great prices and variety of goods. Lots of asian foods and their veg. seem to be fresh. Lots of take out hot food also. Liquor store next-door for one stop shopping. Staff commented that prices were unusually low till store gets busier (so why am I reviewing!! ). read more

The only reason I come here is because I live near by and get my prescription filled here. I cannot say enough good things about the pharmacy and their crew. Always treated with respect even after watching them deal with a frustrated customer ahead of me. While I appreciate the store is clean, I must admit I generally cringe at the prices on all goods. Even rummaging through the "need to sell now before expiry date two days from now" bargain bin, the savings aren't great but better than regular price. I cannot give them anything higher than 3 stars, especially after my last trip. I wanted a deli sandwich and stood there while two girls were going on about how it was a busy day and were calling to another person to come and make "this customer " a sandwich. This was at 8 pm. I was the only one there. One girl proceeded to keep marking cheese slices while the other one said the only had one kind of bread left....but neither had addressed me at all and they knew I was there. Suddenly there was action and my tummy got excited only to be defeated as they reached into the fridge to pull out "the last sub" that they were going to mark price wise and put it out. All I wanted was a sandwich. My tummy rumbled in protest and my brain fuming. I didn't want to say anything in anger because I was hungry so I shook my head and walked off. They saw it and said nothing. Guess they got to finish their day without making another sandwich. Could not believe they didn't have the decency to verbally acknowledge my presence and the fact I wanted to spend my money in their department. I ended up buying a butter chicken "meal" for six dollars. The "meal" was a portion which would be no problem for a child with half a stomach. Unfortunately I was left hungry and kind of sad. I used to work for Safeway and it's disheartening to see that some departments have completely given up on customer service. I'll continue to get my prescription from the awesome pharmacy department but I'll refrain from spending elsewhere in the store. read more

This Safeway has an amazing layout and interior design. The pharmacy section is out of this world. All pharmacy shelves are made of beautiful fancy wood with designs in it. Kinda bizarre at the same time cause I've never seen such a decked out Safeway pharmacy. They also have a consultation section in the pharmacy with fancy couches and a fake fireplace. It looks much bigger and swankier than a doctors office waiting room. The deli section is also crazy good. Way bigger than any other Safeway. They have all these speciality hot foods ready to go, including a Chinese food section. The selection of all products at this Safeway trumps all other safeways in Vancouver. They also have those mini shopping carts that I just love. The only problem was a very very dirty washroom. That's my only complaint. Otherwise fantastic Safeway. Huge too! read more

This is my local Safeway and I like to come here to do my shopping and get my prescriptions. However, today I did not make a pleasant experience (despite it being Christmas Eve). I realize that it is usually very busy with reduced hours on a holiday, but I was left feeling quite bad. I called the pharmacy to make sure my prescription could be picked up on a different day, but the pharmacy tech or rep, whoever it was that answered my phone call, was dismissive towards the end making it sound like they made it very clear what the procedure was. However, the truth is that he did not take the time to make sure I (the customer) understood the procedure so I was left to give him a rushed answer whereby he said he was going to "cancel my prescription orders". I did not know what it mean since this is the first time I ever had recurring prescriptions like this, so I was unsure if he meant that I would have to call back and wouldn't get it until days later, which made me think that I may no longer get a notification that a prescription is ready for pick up and that I might not get my next prescription in time for my next treatment. Since he wasn't clear, I went to the pharmacy in person (I had just made it in time before they closed) and this same guy (pharmacy rep) had already went ahead with what he understood to be "me agreeing to cancelling this order twice" over the phone. Then he had the audacity to make me feel bad by saying that he would have to undo the procedure since it turns out I was picking up the prescription, which would take another 10 minutes and it was closing time within that same time frame. Good grief, I understand it's Christmas Eve and we all have to be somewhere or really "nowhere" since it is Covid-19 and all and we can only go home, at this point, but I did not appreciate that tone and him saying this to me! If he had done his job well and communicated better on the phone by taking the time to listen and make sure everything was understood properly, he would not have had to undo anything or have me take more of "his" time. What a great way to make a customer feel on Christmas Eve! I hope a manager reads this or I will contact them after Christmas, because this is not how you make a customer feel! I expect better communication and better customer service than this! read more

This is the closest grocery store to my new home so I'll be shopping here at least once a week. I think it's a decent Safeway. The prices are a bit high but that's the case at every Safeway. I'm not that impressed by the produce even though Jamie Oliver endorses it (standees of him are prominent as well as his lovely voice at regular intervals over the PA)! They have a good selection of gluten free products. I also like the self serve checkout for speed and convenience. The staff are quite friendly here. I've been offered a couple of slices of pizza on two occasions by a delightful member of the team - I think they are promoting the pizza that is made in-store. Needless to say, there isn't much to say about another Safeway, but this location is set apart by good customer service and unexpected pizza! read more

Honestly I love all safeway s. I enjoy their food, the groceries that my parents buy, but today I gave a call to them and asked how much fruit platters were; a very simple question. After being transferred 3 lines and put me on hold for around 10 minutes very disappointed me. Not only that they hung up on me and yes I checked if I accidentally hung up on them but there was no way my cheek could have pressed the end call button. Safeway 's customer service, I asked how much the fruit platters were, a simple question yet u didn't answer my easy question plus u offended me by hanging up. read more

Store is new, location is nice and convenient. I've only had terrible customer service at the deli counter. Waited 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged me - that was after three different staff members saw me, either walked away or kept going to the back. One girl saw me, and went back to fixing price tags with her back to me. Only when a customer already with an employee pointed out that I'd been waiting a long time was I able to get the ONE item I wanted from them. He gave me the wrong label. And once I got home and took a bite - he gave me the wrong one. I'm a vegetarian. Great experience biting into beef. Don't waste your time with their deli. read more

Grew up going to this Safeway, and its always had a soft spot in my heart. Just came back here for the first time since they re-opened. Had some problems, pretty brutal with kids and a broken elevator and some other things.. getting the groceries back to the car was a nightmare. Went to talk with Ron, the 2nd assistant manager, and he was snide, and didn't even apologize. Will never shop at Safeway again. read more

The straw that broke the camels back. Wow. This is the 5th bad experience at this store. We live literally right across the street so it is so convenient to go here but never again. We have had to return ROTTEN meat here not once but twice. The second time the strip loin steaks they replaced were just as rotten as the first. OMG. We have also purchased produce (broccoli) that had copious amounts of mould growing throughout it. None of these things were left in our refrigerator overnight. They were all purchased for immediate consumption. It is not worth the trouble to walk back across the street to have a fight with someone over 3 bucks worth of produce. I wonder if this store gets all the oldest and crappiest meats and produce because it's Marpole and they incorrectly assume we are all low income and don't know any better. Anyways tonight's experience was yet another example of appalling customer service. I went there after a 12 hour day to pick up a some shrimp and veggies to make a quick stir fry for dinner. The sign on the prawns said 7.99 for the 26/30 count. So I grabbed 2 bags. We usually buy the bigger shrimp but figured it was a pretty good real plus I was starving. Get to counter. Charged 14.99 per bag. Complained. The girl left the checkout and went to do a price check. Came back and said they were indeed 14.99 and that the sign was a MISTAKE. ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME??? while I realize it was not this particular persons fault and she was apologetic and really very sweet... ...WTF??? She asked me if I wanted to speak to a manager but as there were only 2 checkouts open at 9 pm and about 12 people in the line behind me I declined. I am now thawing out my 50 dollar meal in the hopes that at least it won't be rotten. Is good help really that hard to find? Whoever's in charge of this store is doing an appallingly pathetic job. The meat department sucks. The produce always looks old. The staff is helpless to make any real decisions without it becoming a huge deal. My time is worth more than the aggravation that I repeatedly encounter at this store. Honest to god the buy-low on Kingsway has better quality EVERYTHING than this store if you are budget conscious and my advice would would be to shop ANYWHERE but here. I will NOT be returning. I would rather get in the car and drive 3 minutes to superstore. At least their food won't potentially put me in the hospital. read more

The store itself is new and clean. However, the staff are terrible and the prices aren't that great either. Almost every time I visit this location, I've noticed that the staff are rude, lazy and couldn't be bothered to help you and are certainly in no hurry to get you checked out of the cashier line in a timely manner. Good luck finding someone to assist you with an inquiry who doesn't give you major attitude. The only time I go here now, is if I'm in desperate need of something and don't want to drive over to Superstore on Marine Drive. read more

I'm not sure what's the bad review of this Safeway is about but it has everything I needed. Yes, it's pricy but some of the price is comparable to California. I got what I needed and I'm happy, Babybell cheese, and it was on sale as well. read more

I used to go to the old Marpole Safeway here (- not up to the standard I was used to from others in Vancouver, IMO) when it suited my itinerary, Now they have built a new one. More selection. Definitely nicely laid out. But the prices? They have spiked Avalon milk (non-organic) up to $3.29 for example, when another another modernized supermarket charges $2.69. I feel the price of basics is very telling here. Club specials don't make up for the general price level I've found, generally. I especially notice it in the frozen section. I've also found the checkouts generally rather slow. read more

Love the new large deli with many choices....and the pharmacy selection is like a Shopper's or London Drugs which makes life easy for me because I don't want to travel far to get what I need. Service is always friendly and quick. Also nice outdoor seating area it is great to grab a bite and sit outside in the summertime. read more
