The Safeway store has torn up its floor as it adds more cooler cases and moves merchandise aisles around. They're pruning trees, adding shrubbery... and have continued to raise prices, trying to sell the idea to customers that everything in the store has to be shipped from the Phoenix area, Horse feathers. Everything delivered to Safeway stores is shipped from somewhere. Everything. It doesn't come from a "one big national warehouse"... it all comes from warehouses scattered regionally and doesn't matter whether it's driven 40 miles across the Phoenix metropolitan area or to Wickenburg. Everything is transported, and it doesn't matter whether the store is "remote" and requires highway driving 26 minutes to get there (it takes longer for Safeway trucks to get to Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Tempe, Surprise, Santan, etc than it does to get to Wickenburg -- and the drive to Wickenburg has far fewer traffic bights than those listed. I had to do some shopping there due to a surprise visit from family our of town a few days ago, and stopped yesterday at a store in Surprise: checking 12 items purchased 4 days ago in Wickenburg, the mean prices of the identical items in Surprise were ~23% lower in Surprise. The Wickenburg manager this morning explained the price difference is due to shipping its stock long distances (a lie)... then insulted me with stating that senior citizens and veterans can both save on groceries one day a month... as if the veteran and retired community will wait to do their shopping on only two days per month. Interesting that over 65% of Wickenburg residents are retired (even higher percentages in towns like Congress, Yarnell, Kirkland)... yet Safeway prices are escalting even higher than the rate of inflation. All the work done to update the Wickenburg store's internal and external appearance ("image") is little more than putting lipstick on a pig. read more

Service- with few exceptions, is mostly surly and not helpful. Prices- ridiculously high. Produce- awful. Doesn't last more than a few days. Supply- spotty at best. I don't understand what goes on with dairy supplies especially. Overall this store deserves a less than one star rating. I'll make the drive to Surprise from now on. read more

Been a Sw user for over 60 years, worse thing they ever did was hook up with albertson. I have not bought a piece of beef for over 3 months, purchased a beef roast and slow cooked it for over 4 hours, so tough my dog would not eat it. I do not know where they buy their meats, but need to upgrade or find a buyer that knows what they are doing. 2nd Supermarket review with reason - stop overcharging (1st issue) for towns vs. cities! NOT COOL. Let me start with an example: Dreyer's Ice Cream promotion was $1.97 in Phoenix, Goodyear, Surprise, etc. In Wickenburg? - $2.97. Again, that's one example of taking advantage of people. Trust me. I can share more. It's not right. I've been going to the "city" to get my groceries because of this. No wonder people here do Club store trips once a week. Pricing is WRONG. Environment - clean and nice. Service - very nice and respectful. If I need a quick grab n go, I'll hit here over the other sad grocery store in Wickenburg. This is the worst run SAFEWAY I've ever shopped at!!!! They never stock up SALE items! Whatever is on sale is gone in the first hour.!!! You can never get Coffeemate Original. They have several rows of all FLAVORED Coffeemate and yet only 1 row of ORIGINAL which is always empty. Fresh fruit/vegetables on SALE are usually stocked, but go out of stock quick also. What happened to the employees at Safeway? The past three times we have been in there we have dealt with rudeness of meat department employees and today a Meat Dept. employee and cashier. Got lucky on the incident at meat department today because the manager watched what was going on an came up to us as we were walking away and apologized. I understand these workers are probably stressed, but that does not give them a right to treat customers like crap. I'm done with Safeway. I will stay with Basha's from here on out. read more

We shop at this store regularly. Not our first choice but there are not a lot of choices in Wickenburg, thanks to our town government and their ill conceived values. That said, I am concerned about the number of people shopping in this store not wearing masks, even though they are required. It's time for this place of business to stop the "nice guy" announcements requesting compliance and start denying access to those who choose not to comply. read more

Its very stressful to go grocery shopping with your children but everyone has to do it. After spending over an hour getting what I needed I proceeded to checkout. A woman named Sharon started to check me out when she yelled at my daughter to stop it. I didn't want to lose my cool so I let it go but not even 60 second later elderly woman Sharon checking us out mumbles under her breath "I don't have the patience for this" so I said "ok no can I get someone else to check me out" just to be ignored so I politely tapped on the other cashier's shoulder and asked him if he could get another person over there to check me out just to get a blank stare with no answer. Standing there I am now getting very upset with the lack of respect and now they are ignoring me as if I don't exist. After a moment of angry silence an employee I've seen working at the store for many years walked out from customer service and I politely said excuse me can you please come check me out. He came over just fine and proceeded to check me out, I asked if there was a manager there and if I could speak with them, just to have a very rude customer from the other line chime in yelling at me saying I was a pain in the ass and I was holding up everyone else up. When the manager arrived I asked if she could wait till I was finished checking out before I informed her on the situation. As I took my receipt with tears welling up in my eyes I apologized to everyone behind me for holding up the line. Just to have a teeny bopper bag girl make another rude comment, I then walked out side crying as I'm telling the manager what happened, she said she understood and would talk with them. I have lived here my whole life 25 yrs I've probably been to this Safeway over a 100 thousand times and I have never been so disrespected in front of my kids and every other customer in your store. Customer service is common sense in a work place, if you cant have "patience" or customer care then don't work at a grocery store. I went to the store with the same intentions as every other time, get groceries. Instead I was bullied and harrased by employees who got customers involved. I've never seen these employees in my entire life shopping here and unfortunately they made it to where it's my last time ever coming there again. read more
