They sell a romantic product but is that the same thing as food? I purchased a "Box" of various cuts for $575 in Oct 2025. I never received a list of cuts included in that box, which is what you need to get before ordering. I figured all these tiny or weird cuts of meat came to $12.50 per pound and I will include a picture of the "shank steak". If a restaurant served me such a thing, I would walk out. I would estimate that, while the hamburger was very good, the rest of the cuts were 50% bone, gristle, fat and 25% wrapping paper. I started documenting each piece, until I realized it was going to be a total lost cause. Shank "steak" is a cross section of a cow's leg--looks disgusting and is full of inedible gristle--and since don't have a dog it ended up in the trash. You'll get a much better deal at Fry's where the meat will be edible or you'll get your money back. read more

My first time buying a whole cow, I asked so many questions. Savannah was very helpful and didn't seem bothered by the 1000 questions. We love the beef, so much better than store bought. The meet up location was convenient and easy to find, the guys loaded up the boxes for me and everything. It was a nice experience. I'll definitely be back next year!! As a carnivore I can tell you it is as good as it gets, from service to quality. I stopped shopping for meat at Costco after a couple of bad buys, and buy all my meet from DCR. You can really taste the difference, the quality not to mention the realistic size of cuts. Hanging price is fir considering what tit takes to get this quality. read more

This is a wonderful place. Their chickens are the only meat I've purchased so far as I was an out of state visitor. But the meat was as incredible as any home grown meat could be. I didn't use ( or need many seasonings) the flavor of the chicken was on its own incredible. I'd highly recommend buying from Savannah and Ryan Barteau. Any meat you pick will have been raised under the best quality conditions and standards. Have you wondered what you get when you buy a quarter of a cow ? Well here is the list. The Date Creek Ranch out in Wickenburg raises their own cows from birth out on the grass range. They keep the animals healthy and happy ( I hear they get cable) with little stress. They use no hormones, pesticides, antibiotics or steroids. In the unlikely event that an animal becomes sick and requires antibiotics, that animal is removed from the herd . Because our cattle are raised right here on clean, healthy pastures they are not exposed to diseases. They are easy to deal with and you pick up your beef in the town or arrange to have it delivered. Prices are reasonable and comes out about 4.00 a pound. So this review is NOT for the grass-fed beef, which is most likely a quality product that comes out of Date Creek Ranch. Instead, this review is for the "apple orchard" and the open-to-the-public apple-picking event at Date Creek Ranch. To sum it up in one word: ABYSMAL. The "orchard" is obviously an afterthought, or perhaps it came with the land, or perhaps it's what 'Ol Grand Pappy planted 70 years ago--who knows? All in all, the apple-picking is an afterthought. Obviously, the Date Creek Ranch's primary focus is grass-fed beef, and that's okay...but how the hell does one in good conscious hype up the apple-picking and feel good about sending people through manure, mud, and bees in an attempt to pick terrible apples?!? See below... Extreme disappointment occurred when it came time to finding GOOD apples, let alone picking them. Good luck finding any quality apples bigger than 2-3 inches diameter. We had read that Golden Delicious, Braeburn, *and* Fuji apples were available for picking. Not the case! All I could see were tiny-sized Golden Delicious everywhere...and the rows of trees are not marked. Furthermore, half the trees were in desperate need of pruning. If pruned, the fruit yield would probably increase and lend to a higher-quality fruit. Oh, I forgot to mention. While trying to find apples worth a darn, you're mucking around in areas of mud and soggy manure (used as fertilizer, moistened by irrigation). To be fair, only a FEW areas were muddy. Now perhaps I'm a bit spoiled, as I have come from the Midwest near the Great Lakes where there are *REAL* apple orchards. There, the trees are well taken care of and properly divided and marked. The weather in that area is indeed cooler and wetter, lending to high-quality apples so delicious that you'll pick 'em by the ton! Perhaps a slight exaggeration, but apples picked from those trees are market-ready and delicious. The ones from Date Creek Ranch? Better give them to the cows for a snack! Sure there's "an orchard in the desert," but it definitely isn't worth advertising. If you want some advice, I say SKIP any apple picking from this place. SKIP coming up here from Phoenix and trying to make a great time for your kids and family by picking low-quality apples. It is what it is...but overall, come to Date Creek Ranch to buy a cow, and that's it. read more

Bought a 1/4 cow and was amazed with the quality. I am an avid grass fed beef eater and absolutely give Date Creek Ranch 5 stars. The steaks were tender, delicious and had a very nice color to them. Additionally they added some liver to our order as per request. They weren't sure if they could do that but when we got home we were surprised to see 4lbs of liver in our package!!! I went here with my family and had a wonderful time. It was a little under a two hour drive from Phoenix, but well worth the trip. It is literally an orchard in the middle of the desert - pretty amazing if you ask me! The people here are really nice and helpful. We arrived at 2:30 (they close at 3) and after we picked out our wheelbarrow I confirmed that we had 20 minutes to pick our apples and the man replied, "Ma'am, this is the country. We close when you are done picking apples. Take your time." So...we did take our time...an hour and a half...and had fun. You can pick pears, golden delicous, red delicious, braeburn and fuji apples for $1/lb and they are all organic! They also have some animals - pigs, cows, horses - which my kids enjoyed seeing. Overall, it was a fun family outing and I would definitely do it again :) read more

My husband and I have been buying meat from Date Creek Ranch (DCR) for many years. We have purchased beef (by the quarter) and pork (by the half) as well as the Poulet Rouge chicken. We are happy to invest some of our food budget in these delicious and nutritious ranch-raised products. The quality is fantastic! The only way I know to describe the taste is "sweet." The prices depend upon the finished weight of the animal, yet they are very reasonable. We appreciate having a local connection with our food. After all, isn't quality-of-life based upon "relationship?" In the case of being customers of DCR, we have developed a relationship with the producers, and through them we have a relationship with their land, waterways, grasses/plants and animals. Thus, via our purchases, we feel that we have a stake in this special part of Arizona. DCR is a lovely place for an outing when it's open at harvest times for peaches and apples. The creek runs right next to the orchard; and boxes, wheelbarrows and picking tools are supplied. If we bring our lunch, we can enjoy a seat at one of the picnic tables that are arranged in the shade. Additionally, we have met some very nice people at those tables who are also long-time customers. So, Date Creek not only enhances our health by providing a source for clean, healthy, naturally-raised food, it provides a sense of place and a spirit of community as well. Our family drove out to Date Creek Ranch from Mesa this Labor Day weekend for their apple festival. What a wonderful place! The setting is beautiful, the farm employees friendly and helpful, and the apples were delicious. We had a great time wandering through the orchard and getting up close and personal with some of the livestock. The ranch provides everything you need to pick apples from their orchard, including wheelbarrows, pickers, and bags. We have purchased Grass Fed Beef and Natural Pork from Date Creek Ranch since 2009. The quality of meat is unlike others and the customer service is fantastic! I don't buy my meat anywhere else. We feed our family of 4 on a quarter beef and half a pig for about 6 months. My food cost really did not increase by switching over to buying our meat from the ranch. It did take several months at first to get used to cooking with the beef. It really comes down to cooking it at lower temperatures and/or slower cooking times in some cases. I've also learned how to be creative with the cuts of meat that we receive. Just because there is a package of steaks in my freezer does not mean we have to have steak for dinner. You can cut the steak in to smaller pieces and make beef broccoli, beef stroganoff, etc. The health benefits of grass fed beef and natural pork far out way any other meat. Plus you know where your food is coming from and you are helping support local ranchers. We will continue to purchase our beef and pork from Date Creek Ranch for years to come! read more
