For many years after 1808, farm implements were manufactured here. Lyman Batcheller & his sons bought the forge in 1835, and their forks became famous throughout the U.S. and Europe. In 1902 they merged with the firm making True Temper products, which re-built the Inn." The marker was erected in 1949 by the Vermont Historic Sites Commission. Inside, not just farm implements but jewelry and toys and furniture and cutting boards and glassware and pottery. It's just amazing to see all of this stuff that is, well, hand made in Vermont. Why go to a dozen state sales when you can come here and save the gas. There were a few leather sofas, many dining room sets, countless recliners and seating chairs, and chests and bookcases. Another side of the store features clothing, while a separate section has small appliances. Quality varies, from almost new to fairly worn. Priced accordingly. Perfect place for a new college graduate to set up household without spending a ton of money, or folks who don't need to spend a lot of money in a sofa that will likely become the cat's scratching post when they bring it home. I found a Retroish Mirror for $8 I couldn't leave behind. When I got home, I made sure I cleaned that bad boy thoroughly just to get rid of dust and everything else before hanging up in my Vanity Room. I'll be honest though, I love those hard-to-find clothes and home pieces from the 60s, 70s, 80s and I know I can probably find them here.
