Limited hours (maybe you could call ahead), but well worth the drive/wait. Amazing variety of polished and rough minerals! They had trays of polished stones that you'd expect to see at any gem or mineral shop, a couple of containers of slabs (about the size of your hand), and lots of rough minerals. There was a section of "local" rocks too! Best selection of petrified wood I've seen in Boston/Nashua area. They also had some jewelry; I think he might make some of it. I've been to a lot of these kinds of shops lately, and this is my favorite. Compared to other shops that carry rocks/minerals, it was missing fossils, beads, metaphysical stuff... but the quality & prices of what they do have (rocks!) was far better. Best prices I've found yet! Some items have prices marked, but others are sold by weight - with a few exceptions that are average priced... it's very, very affordable. Most other shops charge about 2-3x more for the same thing. There was also an option to "build your own bag" of polished stones, which would be far cheaper than other places for the same small, polished stones. There were also a few nice pieces that were just for display. Fred was really friendly and knowledgeable. He showed us some of the more interesting specimens of what I was looking for, and he told us about some places people go to find/mine minerals. In the time that I was there, I saw more customers here than at other shops in the greater Boston/Nashua area, and I can see why.

Predominantly designing jewelry from old U.S. solid sterling silver coins in his little unassuming shop. He was very accommodating to our requests and super interesting to talk with. We watched as he transformed what was a sterling silver coin into a beautiful piece of jewelry. Sounds strange but is really breathtaking. On some pieces he leaves the ridges of the original coin and when viewed from the back, you can still see what coin it was made from. Even his website [ http://www.vermontmountainman.com ] doesn't do his art justice. I swear if you order anything he hand makes it will surpass your expectations. I'm glad he has this site because you do get a little glance of quality work and can defiantly see the value in his ridiculously affordable pricing! After we left his shop we couldn't stop talking about his impressive work... so much so we returned to buy even more jewelry as holiday gifts [before we knew he had an online presence with his own website, Etsy, Facebook, etc ] and give him a coin we found for him! I used to see Mark Waters in central MA who would give me 90% of spot price, when I lived in central MA. I am not too happy with Good Fortune giving lower spot price now and may have to look at what everyone else is giving for spot, especially is it is gold perfect for resale!! I had a plane to catch, so I breezed into the store (after taking a rainy photo for Yelp) and looked around for women's shoes. My initial scan showed me a handsome "older gent" (egads, maybe 55?) was leaning on his forearms against one of the shelves. The Marlboro Cowboy with a Sam Elliot on his upper lip, eyed me. (Inside, I thought, "hm, maybe he's wondering what a woman is doing in a store that sells workboots?") Then he said, "Can I help you with something?" And yes, yes, he could! He actually paid attention to what I said (black only, no copper rivets) and I chose two pairs of shoes in the space of four minutes ($59 and $89). When he moved around behind the cash register to ring me up, his colleagues (two other gents sans fancy facial hair) asked me, "How'd he do?" to which I responded with a shoulder shrug and a "meh" keeping in tradition with the reserve of New Hampshah. The gents smiled and mustache said, "they are trying to get rid of me because I'm too old." To this I replied, "they are just jealous because they can't grow a mustache like yours." (Heck, I'm a woman and I'm jealous!) Love the shoes. Love the stache. I'll be back next time I'm driving a pumpkin. And maybe... it'll be happily ever after.

I expected to find a shop-owner, not a friend, when I began frequenting K-n-K. I found out that she drove her help to work when they were without a car. I like Laurie's story, which is going from banking/corporate to follow her dream of owning a thrift store (c'mon, haven't u always wanted to open your own shop?). And now her dream-come-true is literally bursting at the seams with deals and quality items (consignments must make it past her scrupulous eyes first). Some of the things she offers are Back to school needs, FRESH bedding, and Holiday must-haves. I could spend a gift card here in seconds, and next week too, as changeover is constant. I suggest you come on down and squeeze into the crowd of bargain shoppers at K-n-K. It's NOT an old musty granny store :)
