The place's check-in staff discriminated against me and excluded me around 7:30pm ET on January 12,…read more2025 by rejecting my fully paid reservation for 2 nights upon arrival for what seemed like hidden hate and covert discrimination masked by a false BS excuse. Everything seemed fine during check-in while looking into my Canadian passport and reservation details until I started talking about sports and how I was visiting Toronto from Montreal for 2 nights to attend my first Raptors NBA Basketball game ever, and things went downhill from there as it seemed like they discriminate against people who love sports or maybe they discriminate against some people for other unconscious hate/bias related reasons. One of the two people serving me who mentioned coming from Australia suddenly claimed then that they couldn't accept me because I didn't have a credit card despite having a Visa card that was a Virtual Visa Debit Card that functioned 100% like a credit card as it had a standard credit card number, expiration date, and CVV code (that's the whole point behind Canadian banks offering it), but the check-in staff person wasn't willing to even try it even though I'm sure it would have worked 100%, so I believe the Australian was lying and cannot be trusted with anything said. Moreover, that person didn't even seem concerned or distraught about my plight as if I wasn't a human being with feelings that are 100% equal to everyone's, which further compounds how unethical that staff member is. There was no sympathy for the fact that I was tired from my trip to Toronto and had obviously paid for a ride to get there. I wasn't born yesterday and have stayed at many Canadian hotels/hostels. I have never ever in my life experienced this kind of rejection/exclusion at a Canadian hotel/hostel, so I do not believe for one second that the check-in staff were honest. Things don't work in Canada like they do in Australia. Here, all hotel/hostel institutions respect all people equally and do not discriminate against them for any criteria. I used my Visa card at much more expensive places like the Hyatt hotel and a more expensive nicer hostel in Chicago 2 weeks ago with no problem. This place is a very cheap place that has no fridge with alcoholic beverages, so it isn't like I was going to use anything for free and run away with it. My reservation is fully paid for a dorm. Everyone knows how cheap these stays are. Not accepting my Visa just because it isn't 'credit' behind the scenes is discriminatory behaviour because it is discrimination against people with no credit or bad credit as it treats them as 2nd class citizens even if they fully prepaid for their stay and offered a Visa card with sufficient funds on top of it, which is unacceptable discrimination just like any other kind of discrimination. It is also discrimination against poor people as it basically tells them that even if they had the amount of money to fully pay for a stay at a cheap hostel, they wouldn't be accepted like rich people anyways. By the way, I told the person working there I intentionally do not like to get credit cards because I believe they are bad (as they put people in debt), so this was also discrimination against people who make the conscious decision to avoid credit debt, which was kinda like saying that people have to be trapped by credit anyways or else they are punished passively/aggressively through rejection/exclusion. A Westin once asked me to put in a refundable deposit of $300 that would serve as credit given I didn't have a Visa card on me at the time. This place, which is a cheap hostel that is no match for Westin whatsoever wouldn't accept me giving them an actual Visa card or even a cash amount like $300, so I call BS on this discrimination. Some businesses mask their covert discrimination by discriminating against only 0.1% of their clientele that they don't like instead of putting in the required effort to treat them with 100% equality to everyone else, which makes it tough to prove their discrimination. Alas, literally just a week ago, I got paid over $600 from a settlement by another place that practiced similar covert discrimination, and they fired the employee who discriminated against me. The rule that required the Visa card to be a credit card behind the scenes is an invalid rule to begin with given it is discriminatory. Businesses cannot have rules that contradict laws, like laws for ensuring equal treatment of everyone. No business private or public can break laws. For example, a private business cannot kill their customers, so also a private business cannot discriminate against customers. This business must fire discriminatory staff members immediately or else the business must be shut down by the government immediately because discrimination is not acceptable in Canada. In fact, the government must audit such places regularly, closing such places if they practice discrimination against even 1 person in millions.

I booked two nights here for only like $60 which was a great price. The location is great because it's basically right at College and Spadina, and across from a 24 hour convenient store and the start of the Kensington Market Stretch. However, the reception hall. looks very well put together and clean, the rest of the building is a total dump. The floors were disgusting, the hall ways smelled like rotten onions. The Female dorm I stayed in 201, the bunk beds were FILLED with dust and the sheets were all gross and stained. Upon inspection, it looked like the sheets hadn't been cleaned since last year pre-pandemic. There were no paper towels or hand dryers in the washroom. Only 1 of the shower stalls were functional. No pass was needed to enter the women's washroom. So technically anyone could have walked in while you were showering. I like to travel, so I had taken a few pictures of the kitchen/lounge area for personal keep. I left for a few hours to have lunch, and upon my arrival back to charge my cell phone, someone knocked on my door and asked me why I was taking pictures of the facility?! I didn't include any people in them and simply wanted them for my own personal use. I ended up leaving a night early, and asked for a refund for the one night I didn't stay, and that was denied. 10/10 DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU ARE STRAPPED FOR CASH. There are other places you can stay for maybe an extra $20 per night. This place is a dump and will make your stay unforgivingly not memorable.

Nasty place in my opinion Not going to be going back there…read moreever Seems like a homeless shelter that you have to pay for. Steer clear of this place if you're not desperate
