If I could rate this business at zero I would. Disclaimer: I never actually even visited the hostel. My negative experience is generated through an email exchange over several hours with Roxie de Angelis, the very unethical owner. I booked through a website and stated that I have a degenerative condition in my knees and as a result I needed a lower bunk. I have stayed at hostels on several continents for over a decade and this has never been a problem. In the rare instances a hostel could not accommodate me, they did not take my money. Prior to processing my payment, Ms. de Angelis had two separate opportunities to tell me that she could not accommodate my request, yet she did not, She did however make sure to process my payment THEN tell me that she could not accommodate my request and that I was not entitled to a refund. I might add that her own terms and conditions state that payment will not be processed until the guest arrives at the hostel. Yet she took my money before my arrival (I also paid for a dinner as well) in violation of her own stated terms and conditions and then refused to behave in an honourable manner and return my money. She identifies herself as a holistic practitioner and signs her emails peace, love and happiness. I assume that she is referring to dollars rather than actual people. However, once you assert your rights and call her on her unethical behaviour she merely signs her emails The Management as if to absolve herself of her wrongdoing. I apologise to readers for this long winded vent but I am simply incredulous. I have been in countries where people are extremely poor and have not behaved in this manner. In addition, the hostel is in an incredibly dodgy neighbourhood that is far away from everything and she charges a $50 key deposit which you don't find out about until she has processed your payment. There are also pictures of men in her 'all female' hostel. I certainly don't have an issue sharing with men, this just demonstrates that she can't be trusted. If you have the choice between the toilet in the bus station or this hostel, I would take the toilet, far less sh*te to put up with. read more
