Following the renovations the spa is still located in the basement which is not ideal as you can hear the subway. Once you check in a staff member walks you through the change room explaining how to use the lockers, sauna and steam room. The space is also nothing special meaning it looks like any other spa. There are his and her change rooms where you can also find a stream room and sauna. Full shower facilities with access to shampoos, lotions, hair dryers etc. They carry La Labo for their body products which is quite nice. Lounge area is co-ed but is small. This is where you can find complementary water, coffee, tea and light snacks. Couples massage room is like any other massage room. Two tables and a standard soaker tub that looks like it only fits one. Massage was okay but I know like other places, depending on who you get it's hit or miss. We were celebrating a birthday so a complementary glass of prosecco was offered. I ranked it a 3 but In general better than a 3 but not quite a 4. I know it's been upgraded and is more zen and modern but I miss the old space where there were more options of services.

At the time there was a special for a well-aging facial, so I called to book. It was very easy. Youyoung, the spa's owner introduced herself and was so kind. The spa is located on the South side of the street on the second floor, above a Portugese restaurant. The stairwell up to the 2nd floor has nice touches such as stones along the staircase and smells like incense. When I entered, I was greeted by YouYoung who provided me with some slippers and brought me to the back to fill out my health forms and to talk about the treatment. The facial room was so relaxing. She had beautiful spa music, a trickling water fall, dim lighting and quiet surroundings. I was very comfortable and the bed was warm and cozy. YouYoung was very sweet and while she explained things, she didn't talk too much so that the experience was relaxing. I loved the pads that she used for cleansing. They were so soft! I was going to ask her what she used, and was surprised when I checked out she already had them on the counter to let me take home to use myself for up to 4 months! Her massage during the facial, as well as the arms, legs and shoulders was heavenly. It was the perfect amount of pressure. I find sometimes estheticians are too soft with the massages. We chatted afterwards and she told me how she studied Korean massage techniques in Korean and that's how she could tell where my stress and tension was. She really knows her stuff. The other thing I loved was that she really customizes the facial to what your skin needs at the time rather than following the same treatment for everybody. I even asked her afterwards which facial would be best now that she has seen my skin. She told me how it depends on the time of year and my skins needs, so that she will customize whenever I come. I rebooked a package of 3 facials right then and there. My face looked and felt so hydrated and refreshed for days afterwards. I can't wait to come back!

However, today I had a 2nd massage with Linda who works on Wednesday's who I found to be extremely deceptive, dishonest, manipulative, and harmful to any client/visitor. Although during an initial appointment she was nice just to get a repeat client, today she was verbally abusive and demeaning towards me, calling me fat where other massage woman have enjoyed my company and were inviting and cordial to my body who is muscular as well, where I am a very nice guy and tip extremely well everywhere. She left our scheduled appointment in the middle of it since another client that I overheard her negotiating a price with outside of my room door when I could hear them loudly...how unprofessional and vulgur...no class or good business taste. Furthermore, she said she had to run and as a result I would not have to leave a tip where I left her a tip of $100 the last time I was there, but then another girl came and demanded a tip...they were both loud, abusive, and constantly lying about what had occurred, which is certainly not only very bad customer service but demeaning to an individual. I am a highly respected gentleman where no one has ever spoken to me in this matter. As a result, since I have paid with a credit card and did not authorize a tip that they charged my card, I am disputing that charge without having to sue these two ladies at Kawaii Spa them for anguish and malicious behaviour/business practices.
