The 2 stars is for Riley . She is an exceptionally understanding young lady . She seemed genuinely concerned about my experience. However Carolyn was extremely unprofessional and made my "relaxation massage" anything but . She berated me with questions about if I was pregnant. I explained no to her over 4 times and told her my paperwork also stated I was not pregnant. She insisted as if my answer was going to change . Saying it would be dangerous again I'm not pregnant. It's the rudest thing anyone could possibly ask a woman . I actually contemplated leaving but I work 60 hour work weeks and didn't know when was the next time I would treat myself . So I reluctantly stayed and throughout my massage I contemplated stopping her because I was crying and she had the audacity to ask if I needed a Kleenex . No I wanted to stop the longest hour of my life . I have a high stress job / labor intensive and it was necessary for me to get a massage. When I was done I didn't even get greeted with water which is what most spas recommend right after . She said have a nice day and didn't even walk me out . I explained to Riley what happened and she sympathized and agreed it was horrible and I should never have experienced that . She told me she would personally reach out to the manager or owner to make sure it gets handled . I did pay for the massage however I feel embarrassed, cheated and down right offended . To play devils advocate what if I was TRYING. And couldn't ?! That would break a woman . My self confidence is something I've been working on and this has set me back tremendously with my body image . I called my boyfriend balling and he was so upset he called as well to file a complaint with management . We have yet to hear back . read more

I get a deep tissue massage about every week or two weeks for context. My usual place was booked solid so tried Essentials on Central. The place is immaculately clean and everyone is nice. I selected a deep tissue massage when I called, when I signed in, and when I spoke to my masseuse. I received a swedish massage, which was not useful since I was there to address tightness and knots, not to relax. I made a few comments during the massage to try and direct her towards a deep tissue massage. But she went through a standard routine and didn't spend time addressing any of the terrible areas we discussed it that I pointed out during the massage. At no point was attention directed towards releasing knots or congestion. This has left me scrambling for a massage today to work these issues out before the weekend. I'll try Essentials again, but will not repeat with this masseuse. read more

I used to go somewhere else, but switched to Essentials by the recommendation of a friend. I have been coming for prenatal massage and have been extremely pleased with my experience. It is a very relaxing environment, and definitely a great value. It seems that by keeping the cost down for customers, the therapists get taken care of very well through tips, and it keeps quality people on staff. I mention this, because when I was leaving today, the lady in front of me was checking out, and tipped $7. A $7 tip for an hour deep tissue massage. And this person seems to be a regular with a preferred therapist, because she scheduled her next appointment with the same person. (Who I feel really bad for) Just because Essentials offers competitive pricing, doesn't mean it's appropriate to tip on a percentage of that pricing. (And by the way, $7 isn't even 20%) If you have a rapport with your bartender, and they comp you a drink, you tip on what the cost would have been with that drink on the check. So please, use the guide they have posted, and never tip under $15 for a great quality massage. I will be sending everyone I know here, because I love the place, and my friends tip well. read more

This is such a great deal! They have massage prices well below the average and you get the same, if not better, massages. I've gone here three times and the last two times I've had Andy. He's very nice and really is knowledgeable about his craft. He puts as much pressure as you want and knows how to get all the knots out. The room is nice and quiet-very relaxing. Beyond disappointed!! I was scheduled for a 90 minute deep tissue massage at 9 AM; 5/20/2017. My therapist "Brian" didn't show up!!! This appointment was confirmed the day before. I showed up 10 minutes early. The therapist called the spa almost 15 minutes after my appointment to tell the receptionist something happened. I know exactly what happened!! The therapist overslept!! The receptionist asked if I wanted to reschedule. Of course I said no. I wasn't even offered anything to make up for what happened. My advise is to choose the 4th Street location!! read more

So when I was visiting some friends for the weekend in St. Pete, we had decided to have unlimited mimosas for brunch, with food of course. It was on our way there that we were super excited about the day to come, and somehow got on the topic of massages. My friend's husband said he frequents a place nearby that is very affordable at about $30 a pop and super relaxing. My friend then said she has been too and it's awesome. The true purpose of my visit was an internship interview, and with the stress high, one of us suggested we go. Without a second to hesitate, we all jumped on the bandwagon, and before we even arrived to brunch we had 3 appointments booked for 3 massages THAT day. There were no hiccups, no issues at all. When we arrived, I had to fill out some short paperwork and consent forms. I then was seen by Alexandra, who has so sweet and nice. I was brought to the private room where I put my stuff in a bag on the back of the door and she waited outside. She gave a very thorough and perfect massage for about 45 minutes for $30. Afterwards, we of course compared massueses and I was biased but thought my massage was the best value, with a head, foot, back, and arm massage included. She was attentive and asked where I needed focus (my back) and asked questions occasionally. Overall, it was just what we needed and if I lived here I would be a frequent visitor. I searched several places and came upon Sage Wellness. It so happen that they had a an opening that fit my schedule perfectly. They had Covid protocols in place which I appreciated. When they called me in I was greeted by Carolyn my therapist. I explained my issue and Carolyn went to work. She was set on relieving my pain and worked diligently to address the issue. I left there pain free! I was very skeptical because the prices were so reasonable but don't let that fool you...the massage was great quality. Normally, this is my prefer spa for massages. Especially, because the price is right. I went this past Saturday and had a hour deep tissue massage with Caroline. She used to be my fav but not anymore. I felt that she didn't use her time very well as she did in the past. In the past, she has told me that I need a deep tissue so listening to her advice I did. I left the massage with my neck and shoulders still tight. I specifically asked her if she is going to have enough time to get my neck and shoulders and she said. I guess that enough time was one extra minute in the needed area. On another note, I entered the massage at 12 because the spa has a new policy to wait in your car which I did. At first I was waiting for a message and then I decided to message them saying I'm ready. I know a 1 hr massage isn't a hour but for my massage to be over at 12:50 when it didn't start till 12:05. I feel cheated and honestly I never felt cheated by this place before. I always recommend them and bring family from out of town here. My husband also received a massage from a lady named Wendy. He loved her. She did an amazing job he said and he will be back. I'll probably be back to check out Wendy too. Not ready to give up this place but if my next experience doesn't go so well then I will be in search for a new home. read more

I honestly wasn't too sure how this place would be when I made an appointment to go because I've only ever been to massage chains like massage envy. Booked a couples massage with my best friend. It was a 60 minute relaxation massage. It was amazing. Best price in town and far better than massage envy. Carolyn found spots in my back that we're giving me bad headaches and pain and worked on them and even stretched me out some. I've never had a massage therapist stretch my arms, neck and shoulders. Carolyn was awesome at the relaxation massage, explained what would be best for next time as she was feeling my muscles tense in some areas. My facial was with Mia, at first I schedule a microdermabrasion but then after she saw my skin type she recommended a lactic facial for my combination skin. The place is very small and quaint. Very nice staff at the front desk too. I was surprised because I didn't fill out any information or asked any questions about my skin type. The facial technician was very nice, Maribel. Once in the room, she did ask what my skin care regimen currently is, and what type of products I use on my skin. She then recommended a "Hydrating Facial" as opposed to the "Anti Aging Facial" due my skin being dehydrated. She gave a very nice facial massage which I enjoyed thoroughly. I wish there was a bit more focus on draining the lymph nodes (more pressure could of been applied) but all and all it was good. I was very surprised as well that for the cheaper price of the services, they use very good quality products like GloTherapeutics and Sanitas Skincare. There were several masks used for hydrating including a Korean Sheet Mask. I looked up the ingredients of the sheet mask used and here they are: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Cucumis, Sativus Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Poritulaca Oleracea Extract, Beta-Glucan, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polysorbate 80, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, Methyparaben, Fragrance I try to avoid items with some of these ingredients, as they are either harmful for sensitive skin or cause irritation. However it was just on for 3-4 minutes so I think it will be OK. I did notice that during the time duration of waiting for the face masks to sink in, the technician sat behind me and flipped through a book. I feel like that time could of been spent either doing a neck massage, head massage, or focusing on something else rather than doing nothing.
