A few of us met up at Sager Brewery, and I'm glad we did. I honestly didn't know much about the place it's tucked down the street from Living Roots, and since I'm not much of a beer drinker, so..., From the looks of the outdoor setup, I'm guessing there's seating available when the weather's nice. Inside, it's a big space, and it got busy fast even when we arrived around 5 p.m. on a Thursday. Turns out it was Trivia Night, which we hadn't planned on, but a nice surprise. If you've got friends who don't drink beer, there are other options. Just don't expect much from the margarita it tasted like it was from a can and was a pretty small pour. I tried a strawberry sour beer (can't remember the exact name), and it was excellent. One friend had the kombucha, and another went for the margarita. We also ordered wings and two pizzas to share. A heads-up on the wings: they're not pre-sauced--they come with sauce on the side. I'd recommend asking for extra, along with a side of what I think was house-made blue cheese. We tried the Cajun Hot Honey and DoughBoys sauces--the latter had a kind of honey mustard vibe. I believe they brine the wings, smoke them, and coat them in rice flour. They came out hot, super crispy. Be aware before you chomp down. We shared two pizzas: the Spicy Sausage and the Truff Daddy, which had cheese, truffle oil, mushrooms, and more. Both were solid picks, and between the three of us, we only had two slices left by the end. Ordering is easy--you can scan a QR code or just walk up to the counter. The staff was lovely and super helpful. Trivia Night was a blast. We only stayed for two rounds and even managed to win a couple of free beer tokens. That was cool! You can make reservations online, but we just walked in and found a table with no issue. Parking is available on the street or in a lot behind the buildings. It's not clear to me why we have not been to this place before. The lobster roll was the draw for us to go there this evening and everything was amazing. The staff is knowledgeable, energetic, enthusiastic, and very fun to be with. Hats off to the chef for the prep work in creating the most amazing lobster roll dinner with roasted corn and an amazing potato salad German style. The beer selection and Sours are outstanding and benchmark, in my opinion. Well done staff and we will be back soon. Sager is a super cute and casual spot to grab beers with friends! I have yet to try the food but have enjoyed some tasty brews in my last two visits. The space is super conveniently located on University, tucked away in the space near Living Roots, Full Moon Vista, and the offices on Sager. Whether you've got a happy hour to plan inthe city or are just looking for somewhere different to try - Sager should be on your list! The staff is super friendly and good at recommendations. I do wish they had TVs...I know I know it can kind of mess with the vibe - but it would be an awesome place to watch football or hockey or other related sportsball activities. I need to detox a bit. Both our burgers (ordered without buns) had an awful finish. I don't mind some char (even a good black & blue steak) but these were marked with the foul sooty kind of char that makes meat bitter and gross (creosote-like). I cut away as much of the black bits as I could but it infused the (otherwise) perfectly cooked-to-order patty. The grilled asparagus side also featured the burnt-oil flavor; I left it alone. We also ordered wings which were not so bad, but again they seem to have been flawed with some of the acrid taste (maybe a dirty grill, Idk). My spouse ate it anyway; he was hungrier. Despite the awful food, the server (at the counter) was nice. I played bingo and enjoyed my IPA. At one point, the counter server walked over and asked us for our thoughts. Neither of us wanted a re-do or another menu item. I smiled, but my spouse bluntly responded "the food was covered in soot;" (which I would never say, even if it's true...in fact I almost always lie to avoid appearing grumpy, petty, and peevish..) I hope this meal was just an anomaly because it seems like a cozy, welcoming spot to stop for a burger and choice of fresh beer. A great brewery to hang out with friends! The space is pretty large with long tables and plenty of standing room to walk around and talk to people. It was perfect for my friend's rehearsal dinner! Their drink selection is mainly beer as you'd expect, but they make sure to cover all the types of beer and staples of wine and selter options. I ordered their Cherry Sour beer and really enjoyed it! It was smooth with a slight sweet taste and tart aftertaste. For food we ordered honey bourbon and cajun dusted wings that were pretty good. The outside was crispy, with tender meat inside, and the sauce flavorful with a sweet yet biting taste. I would have liked the wings to be a little bigger to fill me up, but still liked them. They also had hamburger sliders, which were simply a beef patty on bread but good, and bbq chicken flatbread, that was so thin on ingredients it tasted mainly like cheesy bread. Staff was great in coming around to clean up glasses and plates, as well as proving their drink recommendations. Cute place tucked away off of University Avenue. Completely modern and updated on the inside. Offering unique flavors, flights and cute outdoor seating at picnic tables as well. My first impression of this place was that I couldn't believe I didn't know it existed before. The bartender was great- friendly and helpful in instructing us on their best tasting beers. Their double IPA is the best one according to him. I got a flight including a cider, sour, the double IPA and a heifewezen. The Nike was my personal favorite Overall, this is a great place to meet friends, stop for a quick drink or grab some beer to go. I debated between 3 and 4 stars and decided that perhaps 3.5 is the most accurate. Sager Beer Works is a small, relaxed place, with unfortunately not much for atmosphere. We enjoyed our visit, but I don't think it's a place we'd revisit because with lots of other breweries in the area as competition, it's just kind of boring. Our pretzel was good, but so big that it was almost impractical. Kind of tricky too eat and a little bit doughy in some of the thicker parts. Still, the flavor was good, as was the mustard! The beers weren't really memorable, but I'm also not much of a beer drinker so I tend to remember things that are only REALLY unique. My only other critique is that there is only one spot to place your order for beer or food, and the line can get lengthy at times. It would have been nice to be able to sit at the bar and get served without having to get up and stand in a line. Overall, we had a nice time, but the lack of personality and atmosphere would probably keep me from returning. read more

They have a variety of seating- some 4 top tables, comfy seating at the far end , and a long Beer hall high top table in the center- where we hung out. Some brewpubs offer no food or have it as an afterthought- not at Sager. They take their food seriously! What an amazing space! It's much more than a brewery. This is the kind of place you could spend a few hours catching up with friends, spending time with your family, or going out on a date night. We sat at the beautiful bar and started with the deviled eggs topped with maple bacon (they were one of the specials today). We both agreed that they were delicious. I ordered the beet veggie burger because let's face it, that's not a menu item you see often! A huge portion was served up on an even larger pretzel roll. All entries come with your choice of side and I went with the spicy Mexican carrots. I enjoyed both! We tried all of the Sager brews and most liked the 2 IPAs. However, if you aren't in the mood for beer, they support their fellow neighbor, Living Roots, with 3 wine selections. A variety of board games were available to play to further enjoy your stay. Sager has emerged, fully formed, opening with a well develop concept and food and beer that is really good. There are four Sager Beer drafts mixed with four guest draft lines that allow for a balance of flavors. Their New England IPA is my favorite so far, but the English IPA and the Stout are also enjoyable. Flights, pints and half pints are available at the bar. The kitchen offers local ingredients and homemade items. We had the pretzel to start. The pretzel was not a traditional pretzel and it wasn't frozen and reheated which made me very happy. Too many bar pretzels are frozen junk that is either warmed up or worst of all fried. Sager's pretzel is homemade and has a crispy outside and doughy center. I don't like the cheesy dip that comes with it, but mustard is available as well. We also had the deviled eggs and the daily preparation of the vegetarian flatbread. The day we were there the flatbread was wild mushroom and fig and it was really, really good. The savory mushrooms balanced with a hint of fig sweetness. Other members or our party had the beet burger, the fish tacos and the brat from Swan Market. All the rolls seemed fresh made as well. The baked goods are definitely impressive! I visited Sager Beer works a few weeks ago and can't stop thinking about it. Their selection of beers was awesome and we had a great time speaking with the bartenders as well. The space is super inviting and would love to try sitting outside next time (it was a monsoon out there!!) We ended up getting a veggie flatbread to give us the strength to try as many beers as we could. It was really tasty and cut to share! We followed that up with the Wasabi Deviled Eggs. The vibe and food at Sager is great! In summer, they offer nice outdoor seating on the patio (dog friendly) and have live music pretty regularly. The downside for me is the beer selection. Most of their beers are wheat/German beers or heavy abv. If they offered more of a variety in beer styles with good flavoring, we'd be here all the time. read more

Went here on a Sunday and it was more crowded than we thought it would be. Cool atmosphere with board games and a good beer list. They have about 6 beers of their own and a couple guest taps as well. The beer was above average and we stayed for a second. We also got tacos and the large pretzel to eat. There is a deal on Sunday for 3 tacos and a pint for $15 which is a pretty decent deal. We went with two shrimp tacos and a black bean & sweet potato taco. The tacos were decent and also came with homemade salsa and pickled veggies. The pretzel was HUGE and came with a white cheese sauce and stone ground mustard. I think the pretzel could have used a few more minutes in the over. The inside was a bit doughy and wish the outside had a bit more crispy. The tacos could have been a bit more full and seasoned better as well. After walking up and down Sager Dr. for a couple minutes, we finally located Sager Beer Works. It's set back off the street and there are no obvious signs pointing the way. Stopped in for drinks and a bite to eat with my husband. I am not a huge craft beer drinker so I was pleased there were some wine and cider options. My husband described the beer as "decent" but didn't indicate that it was anything stellar. We ordered carnitas and fish tacos and a pretzel. The pub pretzel was fantastic, and the fish tacos had a good flavor. The carnitas taco needed a bit of work. The bar tenders were friendly and shared about the opening of Sager. The interior is well decorated with lots of seating options. The bar itself is an odd shape so when it's full, it's hard to sneak in and get a drink. The strangest thing about the place was the water. I asked for a glass of water at the bar and was told there is a self serve station over yonder. I grabbed myself a glass, took my first sip, and was surprised to taste an odd amount of carbonation. It tasted like a flat seltzer water. It was not appealing and I can't figure out why they would choose to do this without at least having flat water as an option. I think this place has some potential.
