This is a really fun place!! It was our 1st visit and our niece was in town and daughter home from college. We wanted to have FUN. The vibe here is good, energetic, positive. All the staff we interacted with were helpful and courteous. We started with the pretzels which were great. A good rendition of a true Bavarian style pretzel. Then we had the Jäegerschnitzel and BH Sausage Platter most notably, along with many other great entrees. Lots of great beer and ciders. The service was quick and efficient. The food came out fast and hot. Our server was on it. Clearing dishes, keeping the meal moving, yet not rushing us. We could have stayed there all day if we wanted. I definitely recommend this place. Come for the views, the lively atmosphere and the beer. The food isn't very exciting but is priced appropriately. We ate outside on the enclosed patio on a rare and perfect 72 degree sunny not humid day. We were told it could be an hour to be seated but our text message came in after barely 10 minutes. Our server was friendly and service overall was prompt. The Mac and Cheese was enjoyable and I took home the leftovers and ate them later. It wasn't as cheesy or luscious as I might have hoped, it was just enough cheese to do the job. The finely diced chicken had good fire grilled flavor but was pretty dry. They offer a Buffalo version of their mac and cheese but there are several hot sauces on the table. Not sure how much difference there would be between their buffalo mac and just sprinkling hot sauce on the mac and cheese with plain chicken which is what i did. We went here the other day for a late lunch and had a good time! They had a somewhat long wait for a table, but we were able to get drinks at their inside bar and appetizers while we waited. Absolutely 5/5 and a place they everyone needs to visit. This is for beer lovers and sober folks alike! I am not much of a beer drinker but I was stopping in for a flight tasting and to get a chance to have the cranberry orange beer which is a new release and comeback for this fall! It's available on tap and does not even taste like beer. It's a very light flavor of beer but deep cran orange flavors and perfect for fall! The best past of my visit was the food by far. The Nashville chicken sandwich was the best chicken sandwich I ever had! It was crispy, but also very sauce and hot! Perfectly cooked and prepared and it was nicely served with coleslaw and pickles. We were in town visiting for a wedding. We were recommended to visit this place from the person working at the ballpark gift shop. We loved this place. We were in town for 5 days and visited 3different times. It was super convenient and had so much to offer. Every beer we had was great. The 12 horse brew was great and was exclusive to the location. As far as food, the beef on weck and jagerschnitzer were amazing. I even had a salad and it was large and delish. Also make sure you visit the huge merchandise shop on the main floor. If not for the view and the beautiful day, this might not be your dining choice. However, if it was some friends looking to hang out and enjoy a cocktail with a beautiful view this is your place. My colleague and I came for lunch as it was close to the ballpark. He had the chicken wrap, and I had the AHI salad. The chicken wrap was your typical wrap, The Ahi salad was OK. The salad had your typical greens with crispy onions, radish, carrots, with goat cheese served, and wasabi vinaigrette. The Ahi tuna was a decent size. Gf said this might be the best beer she's ever had and honestly, she might be onto something. The space has a fun, low-key vibe with a wide range of options and a cool setup behind the bar. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Rochester. Pro tip: Don't skip the rooftop patio. It gives you an amazing view of the Genesee River and High Falls, one of the few urban waterfalls in the U.S. with serious history - this area powered Rochester's early flour mills and helped it earn the nickname "Flour City." Nothing like sipping a cold beer while overlooking a literal waterfall that helped build a whole city. This was a PERFECT last night in New York! What a hidden gem Rochester is. Food with a view is always something to remember and on a nice day sitting out on the deck watching a waterfall and topping that off with fireworks from the baseball stadium was icing on the cake. My summer brew draft was a light, crisp, and refreshing drink paired with beer pretzels and when in New York - Chowder. My waitress was a doll - so nice! I was originally sat indoors but when she saw me keep looking outside and offered to move me. Coming from the restaurant industry from my younger years I was concerned that if I moved she'd loose a table but there was no issue at all. The heaters were on outside, I had an amazing time and even got to experience the falls from the rooftop. Overall 10/10 experience from service to food & ambiance. This is a long-overdue review from my visit to Rochester back in June. I'm not sure why, but the disappointment I felt over those fish tacos still lingers when I think of this spot. It surprises me when a bar messes up something as simple as fish tacos. I don't think the fish was even fried, which left the texture less than ideal for tacos, and the sauce didn't do them any justice either. There's a reason why mahi mahi isn't that popular to be used as fish tacos, probably the texture. Just a heads-up if anyone is thinking of trying the fish tacos here. That said, don't get me wrong, the salad and the bite I had of my SO's Reuben sandwich were really good, and I enjoyed the flight of beers, especially the fruity Kolsch I tried. The place seems to attract a lot of out-of-towners, too. They have a floor of merch downstairs, but I feel like it's a missed opportunity not to sell some Rochester-labeled souvenirs, like magnets. I couldn't find a single Rochester magnet anywhere in town! Then again, I guess Rochester isn't exactly a touristy city that would have its own magnet. We came here for dinner on a Saturday night and it was very rainy. It took about 45 minutes to be seated, as expected. We were seated on the second floor next to a window near the deck and it was pouring out so a second later the automatic wind shield came down which was very nice because you could still see the lights in the city. Our waitress, Calla, was very nice and must've know me and my family were dehydrated because she brought us refills without saying anything which was amazing and I was so happy that I didn't have to say anything! The food was great, as a vegetarian I didn't know what to get but they had quite a few good options, I got Mac & cheese with a side of Cesar salad and I should have known it came with bacon, that was on me. Our our last day in Rochester we went out to lunch at the brewery. A great place for a nice beer with lunch. Great pub food. I especially loved my naan french dip. My teenage son inhaled the wings & his cowboy burger. My hubby felt the Nashville chicken hoagie was just OK. The service was spot on, friendly & attentive. If you're ever in Rochester, NY, you absolutely have to check out Genesse Brewing Company! It's right by the Genesee River, just below the falls, making it a fantastic spot to chill out. It was a scorcher of a summer day, so we hung out inside, but they've got some seriously nice seating on the balcony outside. Seriously, you've got to walk out on the bridge to get a breathtaking view of the falls and the whole city of Rochester. Inside, they've got a treasure trove of memorable brews from all their amazing beers. The menu is great, and they've got the local favorite, beef on weck. A beef on weck is a sandwich that's a staple in Western New York State, especially in Buffalo. It's made with roast beef on a kummelweck roll, which is topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds. Oh my goodness, it's so yummy! The servers are attentive and efficient. Check in downstairs when you first enter then up you go to be seated by a friendly hostess. They've got TVs on the walls and a huge bar. Large parking lot makes it convenient. Kid/family friendly. We were so happy we made the pilgrimage to Genesee Brewing Company. read more

A classic place in Rochester. Local beer and great views of the waterfalls. Ambience is casual. Come as you are. Looks like an awesome place for summer with lots of outdoor options. However, we came early March and we still were able to enjoy outdoor seating with heaters. Mix of locals and tourists looking for good beer. Lower level has a small shop with memorabilia and a few pictures and an interactive map to show how much the beer landscape has changed in Rochester. Pilsner was crisp and light. Flat breed was perfect companion. They have a full menu, bit we opted for lighter fare so we could have dinner downtown. Service was attentive. Waitress was super fast and friendly. What an impressive brewery! There's a large gift shop on the main level with a tasting area. The rooftop offers beautiful views of the city and the waterfall. The staff is really friendly here and provided great service. There is a good beer selection and I was a big fan of the Mango Peach Kolsch. The food menu is extensive. The pretzels were soft and came with honey mustard and nacho cheese sauces. Their version of the hamburger garbage plate was really good. I wanted to try a local dish and this did not disappoint. Crispy fries with a delicious macaroni salad with a hamburger patty and a spicy meat sauce. This was a really filling dish and this brewery does it well. Popped in after a Knighthawks game and grabbed two seats at the bar. Jeff was prompt and polite behind the bar offering suggestions and engaging in conversation. We picked the Asian pear salad (romaine or spring mix was offered) and the pear and prosciutto flatbread. You definitely should add a visit to this local gem for all of these reasons... 1. Food and drink - delicious and fresh! We had the Bavarian Pretzels (my favorite!), Goat Cheese Burger (huge portion-definitely shareable, & tasty), Elk Burger (wasn't my favorite in taste but this was my 1st time eating Elk & wanted to try something different), and also had the Mac and cheese (very tasty & good size portion - see pics included in this review) 2. Nice brewery right next to the Genesee Falls. Lots of great merchandise and really good local brews. Had the Ruby Red Kolsch. Fruity aromas, crisp flavor and light. Excellent beer. Didn't get to try the food, but it looked good. There's a second floor where the beer tasting is held, but I'll have to check that out another time. read more

We chose to visit Geneseee Brewing Company after completing a web search of things to do in Rochester. It had the bonus of bridge access to see the falls we wanted to view as well. When we arrived between lunch and dinner there was plenty of parking. We started by visiting the tasting room and sharing a flight of beer. The five, 5 oz size was perfect. I am not usually a beer drinker but the flavors with fruit in the name were delicious. Then we visited the dining room to share some wings, I wish we would have ordered a German dish, but the wings were delicious. We had them shook in mild buffalo sauce and asked for some different sauces on the side. I absolutely loved the country sweet sauce and I would recommend it. The wings were cooked nicely with a light crunch on the outside and moist inside. There is a view of the falls from the porch if you choose to sit outside. They offer an expansive amount of souvenir products on the gift shop. Everyone was very nice and helpful with suggestions. If you are visiting Rochester, I would recommend a visit. read more

Visited with a group and overall had a good experience. We put our names in, then walked around outside and in the gift shop. I appreciate that they allowed us to leave and walk around outside without removing us from the waiting list. The food was very good, I loved the pretzels, the bleu cheese burgers were a hit, and the schnitzel was wonderfully big and fantastic. The chips were disappointing, and it was ridiculously expensive to upgrade them to fries. The waitress was patient, kind, and helped us by providing honest advice regarding what we should order. I will be back and next time I think I'll try a mess plate or a reuben, I saw them both and they look amazing. Came in on a weekday so we got seated right away, and there was plenty of other tables available. The view by the falls is amazing. Plenty of beers on tap, you'll be sure to find something that catches your eye. We ordered the GBC equivalent of the garbage plate, which is definitely a must in Rochester. Time has not improved the quality of their burgers. Five guys or BK makes a better burger. 1. Ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger, medium. Comes back medium rare---in other words burger is not fully cooked (shows red). The cook needs to be shown the difference between medium and medium rare. 2. The brioche bun is stale. When the server inquired, I communicated. She took my plate and came back with it with another bun. I told her that is unacceptable. The cook needs to plate. Realizing their error, they cooked me a fresh burger. Same issue. I let it go. I'm not there to school their cook. To the pub's credit, they comped me my beer. Overall, it's a nice brew pub. The wait staff are attentive. The beer and the views are like nothing else you'll see in Rochester. Hamburgers are not their thing. Our annual visit to see the keg tree required some beers and food! No wait to be seated which was a nice surprise. The hostess asked our preference: heated patio or indoors. We chose to stay inside. I ordered the Cran Orange Kellerbier. The fresh cran orange flavor was festive and refreshing. Our food arrived relatively quick after ordering, about 10-12 mins. Nothing but good things to say about the food. Both of our burgers were cooked exactly as requested. The fries were hot and crispy. Decent pricing for the quality provided. It's been a while since my last review of the Brewhouse and I am still of the same belief that this is a solid Rochester institution worthy of your dollars. My most recent experience was with German friends visiting Rochester for the first time. We had driven over to the 'new' High Falls Terrace park to see the falls, and decided we needed a salty snack and bubbly beverage in place of our planned 'coffee and cake' stop. It was somewhere around 3 pm when we arrived, and we insisted that our friends do a flight of Genesee beers. They were up to the challenge and tasted the original Genesee, plus Helles, Oktoberfest and the seasonal Orange Cream. They liked the original best out of all of them. We also ordered pretzels to go with the beer, and they were pleasantly surprised that the pretzels were so good - a good amount of salt, tasty dipping sauces (they preferred the honey mustard) and perfect snack-size portion. To round out our selections, the hubby had a draft cider and I had their Vanilla Porter, which is rich and light at the same time, and not too high on the alcohol percentage. After eating and drinking, we spent some time in the gift shop looking at all the old Genesee ads, area maps showing historic breweries in the Rochester area, and perusing the merchandise. Though nothing was purchased, I was really impressed with all the great gift ideas - including puzzles, specialty mugs and tumblers, hats for all seasons, and posters. Last note - the outside seating area and roof top deck have great views of the high falls. On the day we were there it was a bit chilly, so we opted to stay indoors, but definitely, the view, coupled with the menu, make this place a definite must-see for visitors to Rochester! read more

When in Rochester, come check out Genessee Brewhouse for one of the oldest breweries in the city. There's a big parking lot across the street and it's overlooking the High Falls, where the balcony has the perfect view. Unfortunately, there was a wait for an outdoor table when we arrived, so we sat indoors with the AC. The two of us shared the Cheeseburger Garbage Plate ($15), which is enormous. I'm so glad we didn't order anything else because we were barely able to finish this between two people. It might not look appetizing with just food tossed onto a plate like "garbage," but oh boy, this was delicious! Somehow, this really worked for me with the French fries and macaroni salad covered with meat sauce, cheeseburger, and onions. Even though I was full, I kept eating it. To wash everything down, we got two flights to taste. The beers weren't anything too special, but the flights ($10) were great to try out for 4 tasters. The tasters were a pretty big size too, so good deal. This spot felt like the epitome of Rochester, which is a great spot to eat and drink. After you're all done eating and drinking, there's also a merchandise store. There's some neat things there including some history of Genessee. read more

We went during off season, so it was nice and quiet. The service there was really great. We went for the view of the falls and autumn leaves. It was extremely beautiful from their covered patio. After lunch we shopped the gift shop and we were surprised to end up taking a small tour of their pilot brewery. There we learned some brewing history and about the brewing process. Afterward we walked the pedestrian bridge for a closer view of the falls. Very nice outing in the Rochester area. read more

There's really nothing like the view of High Falls from Genesee Brewhouse's balcony. This is one of our favorite places to take people from out of town because we feel like it is an iconic Rochester location. I love that it has so much history inside as well. The food is also good, very solid American-style food. The balcony patio has a screen-enclosed area and heaters.
