Went here with my parents as part of our Vermont Vacation on August 29th 2023. It was a long ride from South Hero, VT where we stayed. However, it was very quiet and very beautiful. The views of the water are great, and one can even swim at your own risk if you want. (i didn't, but just putting it out there!) I found the sign in the front of the shrine a bit rude which said "due to this being a place of worship, proper attire is required". We didn't see anyone that enforced this, but i found it rude because some people just travel up there as peaceful tourists, and may not be religous either. Cool that there is an outdoor church. There is also buildings with a gift shop and restrooms, and a little musuem. the restrooms were very clean, which is good. the musuem was interesting as it mentioned that the french had church at that location then abandoned it. Also enjoyed the history about Samuel De Champlain, in which the Lake is named after. enjoyed the history part the most. read more

Gorgoeus It's a place for peace and reflection It's also of catholic devotion so whomever rated it a 1 star for food availability doesn't seem to know it's a place of worship. Anyway I've been when there hasn't been Mass being said and walked the stations of the cross and it's magnificent . Enjoy beauty and Vermont History as well as devotion by seeing all the outdoor books and crannies of worship. read more

Peaceful, tranquil. Picnic tables on the beach. Beautiful statues and granite benches. Provides astonishing sunsets.

I was driving my out of town guests around Vermont to see our beautiful state. We all were getting a bit hungry and stopped where there were picnic tables. No sooner had I turned off the engine than a woman ran up to us trying to sell us raffle tickets. We explained that we did not live in the area and were not interested. She persisted and said we didn't have to be there when the tickets were called. We firmly said no and that was that. There was a snack bar/restaurant there and we went up the hill to get something to eat. A woman ..who was supposed to be working...was chatting with another woman. We asked if we could get some food and such. She snapped "I'm talking with sister". I suppose taking with a nun is more important that serving customers. So unless you are a pious person that doesn't care about the scenery and isn't hungry I don't recommend this place. read more

An interesting combination of history and currently active religious site. The area marks the oldest "European" settlement in Vermont. It's also a shrine set up for weekly services. There is an altar, outdoor seating, and parking for the services. Those coming just to appreciate the historic settlement will find a statue and some picnic table. read more
