He did most of the talking about all the animals. These elephants are rescue elephants which have been handed over by the zoo for various reasons, or, so I understand. There are 3 elephants Paige with longest teeth, Jeanie with a little short ones , and Krissy with none. With poaching increasing, the number of Krissy's are increasing. That will keep them safe I guess. Not sure why the previous reviews are so brief. We got to learn about them, feed them carrots, even phones if u r willing to give away ( ha ha- Paige really seemed to want them), how to keep their foot and nails in shape, bathing them so on and so forth. This was the first time I had heard a live trumpet and it was adorable. In the end we posed for pics. They are tamed and trained no doubt, but seemed to be enjoying our company and well treated by their owners. They have plenty of parking. Tickets are purchased online, most often they are open only one weekend a month. Restrooms are available. Food not allowed, but a bottle of water is ok. Got to meet Abu the camel, his partner, a zebra and a billy goat and his family too. They do have quite a few animals to admire and feed, pony rides, a train, playground areas for kids, a duck pond, a mountain of sand. As far as the animals go, they have llamas, sheep, goats, horses, cows, turtles, rabbits, chickens, ducks, pigs, and a donkey. You can go into a few of the pens to feed the animals. Others you can only feed from the outside. Some of the animals you can't feed. They specify all the rules at the front desk. We came strictly for the farm animals since our 14-month-old daughter has never met any. She's too young for playgrounds or sand mountains so we really only viewed the animals and took a train ride. Good thing she was free. If you're paying for a whole family to visit, you might as well spend a few hours here. Make sure you bring hats, water, sunblock. The location is really hidden behind 1488. You drive through a residential street, and then all the way at the back, you make a couple of turns, and suddenly you're at The Learning Zoo. When you walk in, you are offered some lettuce and carrots for the animals for an additional $10, which is definitely worth it. Plus, they have some animals inside the lobby area - snakes, hedgehogs, other reptiles, etc. Then you head outside to the main part of the experience. You can walk amongst the tortoises, get "attacked" by all of the birds in their sanctuary, join the goats and pigs in their pen, and they even brought out a 14 foot snake for people to hold and take pictures with. We were greeted at the side door by the grandmother, who gave us a personal tour. We saw chickens (who were really running the pecking order), goats, pigs (living their best hog life), ducks (quacking us up), a rabbit (hopping into our hearts), and a cat who clearly thought it owned the farm. The snow cones were super delicious- actual shaved ice. There are amazing photo ops and I took beautiful pictures of my kiddos. There are several fun pockets and experiences on this farm and it's very kid friendly. As a mom, I'm always having heart attacks because kids love to do crazy stuff, but here I felt very relaxed. Next time I would have them wear mud boots (our tennis are caked with mud). The strawberry fields weren't extremely muddy, but there were pockets of mud out there. We are eating the strawberries and my toddlers are thrilled and proud because they collected them. I just need to get a jam recipe to make this day last a few months.
