Not to be confused with Saint Loose University, which has a very high rate of one night stands and promiscuity. Or Aint Loose University, which only admits virgins. Spectacular University on the west side of the city of St. Louis. The buildings look both shiny and new, and yet old and European somehow, all at the same time. Definitely one of the prettiest campuses I've seen anywhere. I wouldn't want to live in St Louis, but if I went to school in St. Louis I would be all about this place. Visiting the campus is always beautiful and a great experience. read more

My daughter and I drove in from Chicago today to do a campus tour, and we were both really impressed! As soon as we got on campus, a few things really stood out. 1. It is a beautiful campus. Buildings are in really good shape. Many look recently updated. 2. Everyone was wearing a mask, even students walking around campus! 3. There were a ton of students outside. This was refreshing to see : ) Not surprising for a Catholic university, but there were a couple of beautiful churches near campus. We were not able to go inside buildings on the tour, but it didn't feel as "Catholic" as others that we've been to. Interesting side note: We were told that SLU is the only college in the U.S. with a castle, very cool! (See pic) read more

I went to the home page of Yelp St. Louis. And I get "your next review awaits". I just want to know how they knew I graduated from SLU? I mean it was rather recent I attended. 1972 which is 42 years ago. God, sorry Father Faherety, there was no internet, personal computers, cell phones, touch tone phones, and most important no campus. I went when it was a "city school" in every sense of the word. I attended 1968 through 1972 and received my degree in marketing. Still don't know what a marketing degree is but I have one. If you are wondering about the years yes it was during the Vietnam war and there was an amazing amount of campus unrest to go along with the social unrest of the times. 1968 for those who don't remember there were many big stories. Martin Luther King was murdered and the Tet offensive was going on. Walter Cronkite declared the war lost and all hell broke loose. I mean if Walter said it was lost must be true. We had our student union or play palace (since torn down). We dined on the cafeteria food and drank beer in the bar. Yes they served beer in the Union. Old man Busch paid for it so the tappers had to go in. RIP Auggie and Anheuser Busch. Oh Falstaff was the number one beer in St. Louis at that time. Falstaff had an original marketing program at that time. Free beer to all SLU students. That one worked. Because it was more Catholic then than now we graduated with 126 hours instead of the normal 120 hours. 6 hours of theology was required. So from kindergarten through college I studied the Catholic religion. It must have worked because I still go to church (more now then younger). I have often remarked I should sue St. Louis U.. Why? I went for four years (had to graduate in four years or your ass was in a rice patty) and I am still stupid. Where did they go wrong? Wonder how long this review will stay up? But I wrote it so Yelp should keep it up it was their idea after all. Do I miss my years in college not really. I do miss my naps I would take between classes. read more

I try to explain to people all the time why it is I so love my alma mater. I came here as a transfer student in an MBA program, so I was only there for one year, but wow, I really fell for this school. We have a world-class, beautiful campus, with two wonderful museums you should check out - the St. Louis U. Museum of Art and the historic Samuel Cupples House. We have an amazingly beautiful college chapel and a group of students dedicated to service. We have world-class faculty and students from all around the world who come to study here. And, at least in the business school, at the John Cook School of Business, we have an amazing place to study, meet in groups, and go to class. I'm deeply grateful for my second degree from a Jesuit University. read more

They're medical records dept is terrible. I was told my records COULD be emailed to me, I provided the rep with my email address, she emailed the authorization to me, I filled it out and sent it back with a reminder note requesting my records be EMAILED to me (this is July 3, 2023). I get no response for days. I call them 4 days later (July 7) to be told they were mailed on July 3. Allegedly, emailing records is a HIPAA violation, but that's not what I was initially told. I feel like someone should have contacted me before putting them in the mail, especially since I had specifically requested the records be emailed to me. I listed a fax number on the authorization that would have worked just as well. It has been a week since they were mailed and I still have not received them. I called today to ask if they could supply me with a tracking number, the rep was rude and said they don't have any control over the mail. I asked why they don't send medical records CERTIFIED when sending out people's CONFIDENTIAL records via mail. I literally could not get an answer out of her. I'm considering reporting this to the MO Dept of Health. read more

This is a review of our college visit. We've taken son #1 on quite a few of these and you learn what to expect. First you sit and see the powerpoint presentation, then you take a tour where you see spots on the campus like a cafeteria, dorm room, classroom and usually the student fitness center. The person who gave the presentation was not prepared. He fumbled his way through it and forgot a few things. Instead of saying something like "when I remember that, I'll get back to it", he literally just stood there amid silence and waited. Very awkward. The screen that they used wasn't mounted on the wall, it was on a cart, so if you were sitting in the back of the room, you had some problems viewing it. There was also a delay because they were running out of seats. We made an appointment as everyone else did, so they knew how many people were attending and could have figured that out earlier. So this was not that great of a first impression. Our tour guide was very friendly and thorough and open to questions. She took us to various spots on the campus, but not what we have experienced other places. We didn't see a lecture hall, we didn't see a cafeteria, the dorm room was optional at the end of the tour. The campus itself is very pretty, but I think we needed to see some of the basics. Overall I was disappointed at our experience. They did call us 3 days later and ask if the school was in my son's top three choices. I think a survey on our experience would have been more helpful! read more

I didn't realize people were gushing about their alma maters on Yelp! I'll take any excuse I can to sing the praises of SLU. I attended from 2003-2007, and I can honestly say that these were the best four years of my LIFE. SLU offers an amazing education, and it's expensive, but I feel like I certainly got my money's worth. Scholarships definitely help :) The campus itself is beautiful, and there were always tons of activities for students to get involved in. As a Jesuit university, SLU really emphasizes the importance of giving back, and I was amazed and impressed at all of the different opportunities for volunteering I was presented with. It really does feel great to give back to others. I owe my great job, my well-roundedness, and my hard-working attitude to SLU. I might not have appreciated what the school stood for during my years there (what do you MEAN we have to take 9 credits each of philosophy and theology?!), but looking back, I can say with confidence that they know what they're doing. Gahhh...I miss college. I still get weepy whenever I drive by the campus. read more

SLU is a great school, if you can afford it. Their financial aid package is good if you are in need, but not everyone (obviously) gets equal amounts of aid. I enjoyed my time here and really liked all but two teachers. Campus is beautiful and St. Louis is a great place to live. Go Bills! read more

Although I tend to be a bit biased, I really do enjoy attending St. Louis University. My professors are all very interesting and widely range in personality and backgroud (from a 70+ year old, Catholic-Pacifist-Veteran-Father of 8 to a 30ish year old, radical feminist policy writer), which is important to holding my attention span. My favorite thing about SLU, aside from the great professors, is it's focus on Social Justice whic h is centered around the Dorr Center of Social Justice. Also, it might be that I'm in a social work program, but in all of my classes we tend to focus a large majority of our time on how to combat social injustice and educate others about the social justice issues of our local, state, country and world communities. My two big concerns with SLU are: 1. parking is terrible and sometimes very expensive and 2. the price is super high. read more

Busch Student Center is really a buzzing mecca of students studying everything from Communications to Economics. I was there today for the Spring Career Fair. I must say SLU really is good to the employers, steaming hot Starbucks was available!! It was a fairly slow afternoon, talked to mostly students seeking internships. Out of the many schools I attend for annual job fairs, SLU does have some of the most professional students. Only thing that was a little downer, so many employers were crammed in the ball room it was rather HOT! read more

Went to school here. Its hard to sum up my time there but I enjoyed it. I got a BS in Biology and thought the program was great. As I was there I saw some amazing transformations in the campus. The neighborhood was a little rough and slowly SLU bought up all the land around it and really turned it around. Great school, great campus, great people. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with SLU. I came here for undergrad and then returned for a graduate degree. The school runs with great message and tradition of social justice. The faculty are warm and inviting. You get an excellent education. They have a beautiful campus. However, this school can be very pricey and some of the administration's actions and policies are less than desirable. read more

It was my first time visiting SLU at the end of January and I really enjoyed it. The campus was beautiful and had a lively feel. It was great that you could walk through it within a few minutes and also observe the mix of modern and antiquated buildings. The students seemed very nice and welcoming and the academic facilities appeared to be well established. I would enjoy to visit again during warmer months. But, despite the fact that it was so cold, there were plenty of students out and about in comparison to other cold campus I've visited. Great place. read more

Expensive school for the quality​ of facilities and education. I was given a large scholarship to SLU, spent a semester, and left because of my unhappiness. The professors are largely poor instructors​ with outdated plans, the cafeteria is outdated, my dorm room​ A/C unit (and many others) had black mold growing in it, and I found it difficult to fit in. The location downtown is​ not safe, you have to cross a major intersection to get to the other​ side of campus, and a large part of the homeless community is on or around campus. Most do not approach peole, but a few known people are always asking students for money. The majority of the people there are coming from upper-class​ families with an average income of over $250,000. Many thought it was ridiculous I was working through college, and since I was paying my own bills I could not afford the inclusion costs to actually be invlved on campus. I was so much more happier when I transferred. read more

I enjoyed my time at this school until I was harassed by another student for being Jewish. Unfortunately, the Community Standards office did not consider being told that "all Jews should be killed" or being called a "Fascist Zionist Pig" as harassment even though their handbook says that any mistreatment of an individual based on politics, ethnicity, and religion (among many other things) constitutes harassment. What was more disconcerting was that I was not allowed to appeal this decision on a basis of them not following the handbook - only if I had new information or there was a material deviation. Essentially, this office protects themselves from ever being found guilty of not following school policy. Even if they make a decision based on false information, which also occurred in this case, you are not allowed to appeal. When I complained to a higher office, they protected their staff instead of their students. Any school that puts their staff before their students, especially in cases of discrimination, is not one I would send my children to. Just imagine if this were to happen to your child - harassed for who they are, not given justice, and not allowed to appeal. Disgraceful. read more

I am currently attending St Louis University. I think that one's experience depends on what one is studying: my major is philosophy, with a specialization in Medieval philosophy. St Louis University has some excellent professors specializing in that area. read more
