This shop is absolutely adorable and located in such a cute, charming neighborhood. They have a great selection of books--not just romance, but something for pretty much every kind of reader. I loved browsing around and could have easily spent way more time (and money!) here. And the best part? Two tuxedo bookstore cats! They were the perfect finishing touch to an already delightful bookstore experience. Big Hill Books is exactly the kind of cozy, independent bookstore I love discovering. The kitties were well mannered, and tolerated being pet. The store itself is adorable on both the outside and the inside. My list of store highlights includes: - The quilt hanging on the back wall was gorgeous! - There is more than one seating area for relaxing with a book to check it out before purchase. - The vignettes and displays were interesting to peruse. - The staff were welcoming, helpful, and quick to chat book-ish things if you wanted. - The curated selection of books was interesting and contemporary. - The event list and book clubs are compelling. They had all the different versions of the Bible as well as different sizes and different size fonts. Many options. They sell gifts, trinkets, books, art and more. When you buy a bible here they imprint it for free. You can pick the font and color. The Bible I picked had a floral design over the entire cover and at first the woman working said she couldn't do it on the one I picked but when I asked if she could imprint on the back she was able to do it. Customer service was great. They have a parking lot which is nice as well.

There are tons of cards for all occasions so I was very glad to see that as sometimes it's hard to find faith based cards at stores. Given that Easter is almost here it was a great opportunity to get a bunch of cards to mail to family. They also have a Spanish section for bibles which I thought was fantastic as I also can utilize it to get some for family members who only speak Spanish. They have great gift sections and also one for kids. There are a lot of resources for kids in terms of bibles, books, or devotionals as well. Service was great as I got help trying to understand different versions of bibles and which one was a better fit for me. I found the perfect one and they also do free engravings so I was able to get my name engraved in silver which was very special! I will say that if you are a fan of some of the more mainstream books in the romance, sci fi, or fantasy genres like I am, then you likely won't find what you are looking for. Overall I think that the actual store is awesome and the staff are friendly, the selection just isn't what I am typically interested in reading. Prices seemed typical of most book stores.

Weird and wonderful, eclectic selection of used books in a pocket-sized space. The first book that…read morecaught my eye was a book in French about China. My husband saw a book about making soymilk and a graphic introduction to Derrida directly opposite. How many bookstores can give you that kind of experience? It's the kind of store where you will find your college reading list (words of one fellow customer). Or that old cookbook that your Mom used to have. That random book your college friend told you about but you never bothered to pick up. A classic graphic novel that your art class peers recommended. You won't find everything you ever wanted to read, but there's a good chance you will find something that you didn't know you wanted to read. The store is a real community effort. One of the owner's friends happened to be there, and said that the owner had another store-full of books in his house. He had been collecting books over 15-20 years, carefully curating them for just this time. The shelves were made with brackets from a local department store that was closing. The owner's brother made the beautiful book cases on the floor. We found this place by chance looking for something to do Christmas day. In the spirit of the bookstore name, they had Jewish trivia, bagels, and mimosas. Some other people trickled in for the trivia, others did kind of float in and browse the books. We gathered around a small table toward the front and had a blast. The store was closing up soon after our trivia game ended, so I'll be back at some other time when it's warmer. A great addition to the neighborhood!

Any new book that I hear about and want to buy, they invariably have in stock, alongside a wonderful selection of titles I may not have realized existed. They're the kind of place that gets me excited about the world, even if they also remind me there will never be enough time to read everything I want to. I've been to a ton of independent bookstores in the Twin Cities, and Moon Palace is the best. Heck, I've been to a ton of bookstores in a lot of cities, and if Moon Palace isn't the best anywhere, I can't think of one better right now.

It's a used bookstore with more than 40,000 books; so prepare to spend at least an hour (if not an afternoon) perusing the bookshelves. It's easy to get lost in the stacks here, as there are LOTS of hallways and a labyrinth of rooms. There is a room for small gatherings, a rare book room, and an alcove to tuck away with a book. One window in the store has a bit of nostalgia as it overlooks Bob Dylan's old apartment (and is now the Loring Bar). If you love a used bookstore and a historic site, this place is worth a visit.
