Cemetery number one…read more The Winthrop Street Cemetery is also called Cemetery Number One, probably because it is the oldest graveyard in Provincetown. It was founded in 1723, very close to the site where the very first meeting hall was established. The three acre graveyard sure looks old with lots of very simple gravestones scattered over a couple of small sandy hills. Many are worn away to almost nothing and others have fallen or are learning over at strange angles. What is really unique about this ancient graveyard is the fact that it doesn't look like a cemetery. Large trees and numerous bushes have grown up between the memorials and you actually have to look to find many of them gravestones. A very cool and very, very historic graveyard. No attempt has been many to clean up and remove the trees or plants and I suspect this is how the cemetery looked when it was in use in centuries past.

Most people would have understandably stepped away, but not Lilly. She made sure she was there for us anyway. That speaks volumes about the kind of person she is. She didn't see us as just another family she was helping, she genuinely cared. Knowing that she chose to be there for us, despite being on her own personal time, meant more than words can express. It made us feel seen, supported, and deeply cared for during one of the hardest days of our lives. Lilly has a rare gift. She combines extraordinary professionalism with an even more extraordinary heart. She showed our loved ones the dignity and respect they deserved and showed our family endless compassion at a time when we could barely function. She cried with us, encouraged us, celebrated the lives of our loved ones with us, and somehow made an impossible process feel a little less heavy. By the end of these past few months, Lilly no longer felt like someone we met through tragedy she truly felt like part of our family. We will always remember her kindness, generosity, unwavering support, attention to detail, and the love she poured into helping us honor the people we lost. Monuments oceans and…read morelichen The Langsford Cemetery is also called Seaside Cemetery and appears on different maps with the different names. It's the same place though. The graveyard was established in 1857 so it isn't one of the really old ones in New England. Most of the graves seem to date from the late 1800s and apparently that's when it had the most use. The cemetery does indeed have some very lovely views of the ocean from the small hills and also has some very old and very spooky looking trees. Many of the monuments are rather modest and are covered by the yellow lichen that seems to cover everything near the ocean up north. Some of the gravestones are worn away but others are still in pretty decent shape. All depends on the location and direction of the wind. A lovely and historic old graveyard that not only gives a sense of Cape Ann history but also has some lovely views of the raging ocean.

I always come in with my flowers to the funeral home and I always make a meal for the family for after the week they are very accommodating about putting it in the refrigerator if it's a cool meal or on the in the kitchen if it's hot meal and making sure the family I was accommodated when it's over. This time they had chocolates in the entryway where people sat and relaxed and talked with other family members etc. like a calling type room they had boxes of chocolates which are apparently the deceased favorite. I thought that was extremely thoughtful thing to do.
