Great experience Great food A must do! I love being able to choose your dish as it goes by. Especially the special orders on the train.

Sakura Kaiten! Long name, small place, huge range, and dare I say, I think if not the best it's definitely one of the top sushi train joint in Melbourne. " we shall never eat at another sushi train again" was dining companion's remark. Wow, big claim. He's no connoisseur, but he knows his sushi train. Staff are friendly and attentive, sashimi are fresh and each dish are just how you want it, creative, fresh, tasty, not too heavy or oily, succulent. We'll be back :)

I am living proof that a human being can thrive on a diet of almost nothing but sushi. But I had yet to board the sushi train. How does this thing work? In my case, you sit down and your primal self is instantly is bedazzled by all the beautiful food - and then panics as you watch them slowly escape. Like a cat watching a tail of string, instinct takes over, and next thing you know you find yourself surrounded by empty plates, feeling like you are about to explode, and wondering if you should just grab another plate and see if they will let you sleep here, or if you have the strength to stand and the self control to walk out the door. I just barely made it out of there, but only after I had tried: The fried banana: ***** The salmon & cream cheese roll: ***** The fried teriyaki & salmon nigiri: *** The soft shelled crab wrap: * :( The doughnuts: * :,,,( The apple juice: I think it's minute maid? ** Also, the people across the way seemed to be delighted with what looked like sesame ice cream, and it disappeared well before their serving of green tea ice cream. Might want to give it a go ...

For sushi train lovers, looking for something a little fancier, Sakura Kaiten is the place to be. Good quality nigiri & sashimi, is complemented by varying styles of hand rolls (including fried!), desserts (the Mochi & red bean is awesome), and other Japanese dishes (tempura, takoyaki etc). As per most sushi trains, I always walk in planning on spending around $25 on a few plates, but end up grabbing more and more as they keep going past on the conveyer belt taunting me to eat them! It's a little on the pricy side, but the choice is different so I'll go back every now and then. Fun Fact - They've put a big of thought into the way they serve dishes - Takoyaki are served in what looks like an egg container!

My girlfriend and I were in the mood for a top-notch Japanese restaurant and after a 10 minutes wait on a Saturday night we were ushered into one of the cosy seats. My first impression was that this is an attractive couples joint, not too loud and not too quiet. Cosy. Waitresses were attractive and attentive. I felt even happier after having ordered my Kirin from a small selection of Japanese and local beers. Food was fresh, delicate and innovative. We particularly liked the salmon & lobster salad roll. Chef special was Mexican Salmon(?) tataki. And I always order beef tataki - I rate this dish as mediocre given the quality of the sauce and cut of beef. Final bill came to $85 for about 10 dishes and a beer. And a great place for people watching ;)

What a delight. Fresh and wonderful sushi train. The soft shell crab came by and we lunged for it. Fabulous. The place is small & busy, but we stuffed our faces - 2 of us for $34. If I lived in Melbourne I'd be a regular.

First time conveyer belt sushi experience.. Didn't disappoint. Sushi was good and they have variety of stuffs to choose from. Bit pricy, but worth the experience.

Great selection, fair prices. You might take a few minutes to figure out how plate colors work. Fresh sushi!

The train is smaller than most but I believe this is what adds to the fact that the sushi is always very fresh.

Most of the dishes were good, except for the sushi. The fish was fresh, but the rice was falling apart, indicating that the kitchen didn't have a good sushi chef. Service was also incredibly slow - took ages for food to arrive. What should have been a fairly quick lunch meal stretched for more than 2 hours. Worth going if there's a good discount available on TheFork, otherwise I think it is slightly pricey for the quality and the service levels.

The ones you find…read moreyourself daydreaming about when you're at your desk at the end of the day and thinking ahead to dinner... the ones that have menu items that keep you awake at night wondering how they get the flavour and the texture just so perfectly right. For me, one of those places is Akachochin. I've been here a number of times in the last few of months. Dinners, lunches, a quick snack and glass of sake before heading to other places. Every time I've left feeling happier than when I walked in. Satisfied, but not stuffed. Content. It's open and bright, clean and slick without being too minimalist. The food is presented on beautiful crockery, your chopsticks rest on what looks like a pebble but is actually a beautifully moulded piece of clay. Sake is drunk from pretty glasses that look like something from deep inside the ocean. Before I even eat anything, I already feel better about the world. For the most part the service is unobtrusive, gentle even. I always feel taken care of at Akachochin, which of course is what service is all about but most places don't have the inexplicable magical touch of giving me everything I want and need without making me feel like I've been "worked". Some of the waiters here get it right better than others and I almost feel like I should make my booking especially when I know my favourite, Mason, will be working. (Would that be creepy?) The food? Oh yes, let's get to that shall we? The Hiramasa Namerou (a chopped kingfish tartar) is the stuff that keeps me awake at night. Even after attending a lunch where Chef Kengo Hiromatsu taught me how to make this dish, I still can't quite put my finger on why it tastes so amazing. There's spring onion, wasabi, miso, seasame seeds and other goodness in there... it's such a perfectly balanced dish and texturally rocks my world with the crunch of the accompanying home made rice crackers. This is one of those dishes I could eat multiple times in a week and never tire of, though I suspect the magic ingredient is all about having Kengo prepare it for you. Also on the menu is a very fine selection of sushi and sashimi, and if your'e lucky you can score a seat at the chef's bar and watch the masters at work as they slice your fish, form your nigiri and plate everything in an artful way. It seems a shame to eat the resulting masterpieces. There's grilled items, Udon, slow braised meat dishes and all manner of vegetable items. It's easy to order a few items and then order more as your stomach demands. Come at lunch time and enjoy a $20 bento that is generous and delicious. With multiple choices available, you could be eating Chicken Udon or Grilled Pork or perhaps fried tofu with mountain vegetables. Each bento also comes with some sashimi, rice and pickles. Yes, I have a bit of a soft spot for Akachochin and hope you will too. .

Looks like my 7th course, dessert, picture got deleted or is missing, sorry. Well this has been my favorite Nobu to date, and we have been to a few. This was not on our list to visit and we weren't even hungry, but we saw it and made the impulse decision to go. Plus we did NOT expect so much food, especially since all our other Nobu restaurants were not as generous. We left so full. his experience exceeded out expectations. I also got a glass of white (NZ Sauvignon Blanc) and red, sorry, I can not remember which red I got. Also available - Happy hour from 3pm to 6pm from Monday to Thursday. Atmosphere - Good size, 2 story location. Beautiful decor, including the bathrooms. Table, booth, and bar seating available. Open 7 days a week from noon to 10:30pm or 11pm.
