I sometimes come to Jackson for work, and on my most recent trip I came here with a coworker. The Mexican Japanese fusion is fun, and the rolls are giant. I was surprised when the server said one roll per person was generally enough, but she was right. I got the Mexico roll, which was cooked and included crawfish, and I really enjoyed it. We finished with a deep fried cheesecake, which was delicious. It was very pillowy soft under the fried outer layer and finished the meal perfectly. The overall ambiance was casual with a lot of comfortable booths. I'd come here again on a future trip. read more

Well Jackson, we've lost another good sushi restaurant. Sakura is no more. It has been bought out and converted by / to the "Taco vs Sushi" Corporation... and it sucks. The sushi now has no integrity and falls apart when you try to eat it. (better ask for a fork or spoon) The sushi rolls are filled with that standard Taco vs Sushi orange goo that appears to be a mixture of cheap canned tuna fish and low grade mayonnaise. That delicious Chinese food that the old Sakura used to make is long gone and has been replaced by surprisingly bad mexican style food. This has been my go to sushi restaurant in Jackson for over a decade. The food is good. That's not my problem with the restaurant. My problem, and the reason that I won't go there anymore, is the need to have Fox News playing at all times behind the bar. That's great if that's the brand of politics that you enjoy, but it has no place in a place of business. I shouldn't have to be inundated with propaganda just to enjoy a sushi roll. Sports, yes. Movies, yes. Political talk that was fined $787 million for telling lies about the 2020 election, and admitted in court that they're not really news but "opinion"..........no thanks, Joe. Also the food was overly expensive for the poor quality food we got. And towards the end of our stay we were treated like they just wanted us to go, even though it wasn't time for the restaurant to close yet (they rushed us out of the restaurant). Large portions! Food was very good! My husband and I got three sushi rolls and then I had some egg drop soup and he had some salmon nigiri. All of it was delicious. I have to go to this restaurant sometimes because my son and grandson say they have the best Alfredo rolls. If you don't like sushi, like me, I haven't found an alternative there that I like very much. I usually just get the chicken fried rice but it's not as good as Asia Garden's chicken fried rice. Very suitable for vegetarians! Simple maki but tasty tamago. The miso soup was flavorful but not enough seaweed. The seaweed salad was great deserves 5 stars! The sweet dill cucumbers at the bottom of the salad was a good surprise! The tea was a little disappointing it's just green tea, but was not hot enough and missing green herb. I'm impressed for the good location and service, the food was extraordinary for the location. I can't about the fish thou! However once in town again will stop by again. I have gone to this place for years, but tonight our sushi rolls were anything, but the great rolls we are accustomed to. I guess they have taken cost saving measures by not adding the sauce to the roll which makes it taste incredible. It was so dry tonight, that we just stopped eating it. It is just not the same restaurant that it once was. Sakura can do better. Bring back those tasty rolls and don't take short cuts to save money. This is not your run of the mill sushi place. This place has a passion for making extremely beautiful and incredibly appetizing rolls. Many of the rolls are more than enough food for one person. My favorites are the Alfredo Roll, the Bubba Roll, and the Sunset Roll. I have had good luck with the service. The rolls can take 15-20 minutes to come out, but hey, it ain't fast food! The menu also includes a variety of other goodness. The gyoza are excellent, and the tempura items on the menu promise to feed the pickiest of eaters. There is lots of seating and the service is usually quite good. I have been dining here for six years now, and will continue to dine here many more. This really is one of Jackson's finest! read more

Yes, this is a Japanese restaurant. It also serves " Chinese food. We ordered egg rolls, which were tiny, cold and all cabbage. My husband ordered Kung Pao Shrimp, the shrimp were rubbery and the food was cold. We did not send it back because when we sent the egg rolls back, they reheated them in the microwave. My paper steak wasn't bad, not hot but edible. We are both on disability, so our income is limited. It's a shame when we spend money and the experience is lacking. I will not go back there nor should you. The staff was nice. I miss the food from Chicago. read more

This used to be the hot spot in Jackson and parts all around for sushi. However, the competition has been tough and this restaurant is slipping. I noticed the rolls getting smaller for some time now. Today myself and two friends ordered our favorite "Alfredo roll". The crab meat was not good. Loud fishy taste. Sent it back and the manager said it was just that it was dry. We then concentrated on the second roll we ordered and it was fishy tasting also. Quality is definitely going down here. I hope they find a way to turn things around because I have always loved this place. 12/28/18: Been back a lot since this review and had good experiences. This has revived my faith in this venue. The food is sooo good! As a sushi lover. I love to explore options people have done with sushi. They have both traditional Japanese dishes as well as really cool variations that include southern flavors! Honestly, I never would have thought to put Cajun spice on my sushi, or crawfish inside. Absolutely amazing variants! We had the Hamachi kama. Gomae, pork belly wrapped asparagus (very pork full!) and sesame covered spinach as appetizers. And a ton of sushi rolls. The portions are good south sized portions, not cali sized like I'm used to so take that into account. The server was very nice. read more

Couldn't believe other reviews were so low! Sakura is a favorite and frequent spot for many Jackson natives - college students and non- alike. It's always a must-do when I come back to visit Jackson (went to school there). I like Sakura because of the tastiness, creativity, and affordability of the sushi rolls. You can get one large roll that'll fill you up for $10, or a few smaller ones. They have so many interesting & tasty combinations in their rolls - personal favorites being the Mexico roll and the Joyce roll. The edamame appetizer is good as well. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the quality of the sushi ingredients isn't the best I've ever had. It's pretty good, just not the best. But will always love Sakura regardless. read more

I visit TN once or twice a year, and this place had provided much needed taste of home and a break from meat and potato kind of food. It's extremely overpriced for what it is, but there aren't a lot of options, so I used to come here at least once during my annual 2 week visit with family in TN. However, my most recent experience was so horrible that I swore I would never eat here even if this was the only Sushi place left on earth. They moved to a bigger and nicer location a year or two ago. The host greeted us and seated us as soon as a table became available. The wait was about 30 min. on a Sat. night, which wasn't too bad. After we sat down, 20 min. passed without water, so we flagged down the server. She seemed annoyed and acted as if she was doing us a favor by taking our orders. I had questions about different options of Sashimi on the menu. Her answer was, "I don't know the difference. Nobody orders that one!" Shouldn't she have checked with the Sushi chef and asked what the dishes were if she didn't know what they were? None of our requests -- i.e. no scallions, dressing on the side, etc. was honored. After she took our order, people at the next table tried to get her attention, as they had been waiting for a long time. What she uttered next was simply unbelievable. She said, "You see all these people? I am busy, so just wait!" What the $#@$%@!!! I am not making this up. All of our jaws dropped. She came back with our food. Our orders were all wrong, but we were too afraid to say anything. We ate quietly and hurriedly, left with very little tip and swore that we would never return to this place. It isn't the best Sushi, but the food itself is acceptable for what you can get in a small "city" in land locked TN. Although overpriced, it's still the cheapest Japanese restaurant in Jackson. These are the reasons I used to eat at this place, but no more! My family in TN and I are taking our business to Asahi. read more

I know it sounds strange, but one of the best sushi places in the Country is in Jackson, TN! I have been coming here for about 14 years whenever I am near Jackson. They have never let me down. Their rolls are creative and the choice is spectacular! There are so many to choose from it is hard to decide what to get but whatever you decide, the fish is always fresh and delicious!
