For all you fellow cacti lovers out there - this place is a diamond. Bring cash and a big enough vehicle to hold your cacti babies. The plants are very well cared for and the selection is great - small, medium, large, or gargantuan - succulents, and palms also. We just wanted to check the place out and ended up buying 6 plants (including a baby Saguaro woot-woot). If you are looking to landscaping your yard to a xeriscape I'd try here first. Easy access off of hwy 126, but don't drive too fast down Grand or you'll miss the driveway to Sal's. He's got a large variety of cacti in different sizes and some succulents. I got my totem pole cactus (at just over 5" tall, this was the smallest one he had) for a very reasonable price. read more

Sals moved to a new location, 2274 grand Avenue, Fillmore. It is 15 minutes from the old location. Set your Google map and turn left after the lemon trees. The place is huge and is better. It has unique plants. 5.95 for some in one gallon bucket. Got a cone pine, a papyrus cactus and several other ones. Great place to take pictures also. Completely worth the 3 hours drive. read more

This place is amazing! Rows and rows of cactus of all kinds. Some in the ground, some in pots, and plenty of succulents too. The prices are very reasonable and they helped me get a beast of a cactus in my car. It's worth the drive if you're not from the Fillmore area. I took one star off because they take cash or check only no cards and you kind of have to meander around for a bit before getting anyones attention. If you're only looking to get a few plants, then sure stick with your local nurseries, but for someone looking to expand their collection, a visit to Sal's Cactus Mart pays for it itself in the savings alone. Not the easiest place to get in touch with over the phone. If you leave a message like I had to, I got a call back within a dozen seconds or so which was a surprise. That aside, the selection of plants is amazing, and they all seem to be happy and healthy plants. We purchased a cart full of their smaller succulents and every plant was a good one! A few larger items also hitched a ride on our cart, and I almost fell over when we were getting rung up. The prices are very friendly and your $$$ goes pretty far with Cactus Mart, I'm here to shout! First time here and loved it! Was certainly hidden but worth the drive out. Wide variety of cacti and succulents ranging from large yard pieces, to small house plants. Two covered areas with countless pots under $8. I myself came more for fun, with limited sun space i only got myself a small Echeveira lola, which had sprouted a Kalanchoe on the side. I ended up getting a bunch of mexican fence post cacti from him and he gave me a great price, great service, and he and his workers dug up the ones I chose and even loaded it into my truck for me. OMG! This nursery specializes in cacti, succulents, and agaves. They have an amazing selection of large and unusual cacti. Really low prices make it worth the trip from Los Angeles. I discovered Sal's Cactus Mart sometime last year. Back then they were still in the old location. I have always loved their selections and prices. I like to go to different nurseries in SoCal (LA, San Diego, SF Valley, South Bay, you name it). This is definitely one of my favorite cactus nurseries. More than half of my collection came from this nursery. If you like cactus, you have to come here. It's worth the drive. Plus, the scenery is another bonus. I like to drive up there whenever I want a mini road trip and relax. It gives a very different vibe from the city. Big shoutout to Erica (pardon me if I spell it incorrectly). She is very nice and helpful. She lets me wander around the property. It was such a treat. Thank you!!! She told me they have been their for over 30 years. Obviously, they are the real deal. I love this nursery! It's a diamond in the rough! There's a huge selection of cacti, succulents, and euphorbias, but every time I visit I'm the only customer there. The stuff is pretty cheap too compared to other nurseries. I've seen plants here sold for twice as much in other places. They have lots of the rarer and more interesting plants here that are hard to find! All of the plants look very healthy too. Definitely visit! It's worth the trip! read more

I've driven by here more times than I can count always with the intent on stopping by one day. When the Mrs decided we were redoing our front garden with succulents, I knew where I was headed. This operations is as bare-bones as you can expect, with cacti and succulents spread out from the entrance to the fenced-off growing area in the back. Armstrong Nursery this isn't but I'll take great prices and quality over a "pretty" nursery any day. At a $1.95 for their 2" pots, we stocked up with two flats and even picked up a few 4" pots to add some variety. Lots to choose from with some unique varieties that will look great in your garden. We walked up to their "payment area" which you can't miss when you walk in and waited probably 30 seconds (and this was during both visits) before someone friendly came over to help. Cash only and open Thurs to Sun so plan accordingly! read more

I love Sal's Cactus Mart. We've had the best experience with his plants and prices. It is cash or check only, so be prepared because if you're at all into cactus like me, you'll go crazy here. Beautiful plants and they are all very healthy. A word of caution, if you select plants that are in the greenhouse, they are still growing so do not put them in full sun because they will burn. Sal's is by far the best drought tolerant nursery I've been to so far and I'm kind of a cactus addict so I've been to a lot, ha ;) They're all so interesting and cool. Sal is a great guy, doesn't bother you and always gives you a fair deal. It's a bit of a drive for me but totally worth it. PS. if you walk out all the way to where the agave and cactus are growing, be sure to stop and wonder at the giant flowering agave in the far left corner. That thing is a dinosaur! read more
