I only come here because it's the only place to get my hair dye/salon beauty supplies. If there was another one near Newmarket, I would not step foot into here. (Also shopping online @ sally's is a disaster- they ship out only 1-2 of your items and don't tell you what happened with the rest. I had to follow up and track the rest of my order down by DMing them on twitter, only to find out the items were out of stock and would not be coming)
I'm convinced every store in Newmarket/East Gwillimbury is microaggressive/racial profiles without having to try. When I came in here, it was really busy so I followed all the arrows but nobody else did (all white old women) so people were EVERYWHERE. Not a word was said to correct this. I was also followed around by the assistant manager the entire time I was there, but she did not bat an eye to anyone else.
I came in here again a week later to pick up more supplies. It was completely empty - I stepped to get something RIGHT past the door. I was immediately told to stop, and go around the entire store following the arrows just to get exactly to where I was already. There was NOBODY in here. Ah well, I got some steps in.
The assistant manager with the badly dyed red hair immediately followed me and asked me THREE separate times if I needed help, what I needed getting etc even though I informed her already that I knew exactly what I needed. Keep in mind, she never does it to anyone else - ONLY the minorities. I've noticed this trend over the several occasions I've been inside this Sally's.
My boyfriend and I both felt extremely uncomfortable as we do every single time we're in here. Also my bf was talking to me, making some jokes about me dying my hair (saying whenever I have nothing to do, I change my hair colour and it's such a girl thing - obviously kidding) and the lady stocking the shelves took it offensively and scowled at him, as if he was talking to her.
The entire vibe of this store is trash and they always make me feel like a criminal whenever I'm here. Please refrain from having your staff follow and be my personal shopper the entire time I'm in here. I think I'm done shopping at this location, I would much rather drive to Markham and go to that Sally's. read more
