STORE STATUS: NOW CLOSED…read more Finnish Treasures Gift Shop was a true treasure in the scenic Fairport Harbor. It has been part of the community for 20 years! I only found the store a few years ago.The shop recently closed its doors (on December 13, 2015). It was the saddest closure for this little area. Finnish Treasures Gift Shop used to sell souvenirs from Scandinavian countries - Finland, Norway, and Sweden. There were also some limited products from Russia. The souvenirs really captured the culture and sisu traditions - wood woven shoes and bags, dolls, chocolates, books, furs, teas, and fresh Finnish bread. All products were well priced and many felt really artisan. Seeing Moomin merchandise was such a beautiful reminder of my own childhood and learning to embrace winter. The owner Laura was always incredibly kind, welcoming, and open about sharing her culture. I loved supporting this store, and wish that it was a forever part of Fairport Harbor. The owner is now retired. I will really miss this one-of-a-kind store. Finnish Museum: While the store is now closed, you can still support this wonderful family. The husband of the owner (Veikko) of Finnish Treasures Gift Shop has a museum - Finnish Heritage Museum. You might ask why the Finnish museum in Fairport Harbor? I asked the same thing during my museum and store visits. There was a significant immigration of Finnish to Cleveland in 1885. Many have arrived at Fairport Harbor and called it home. The Finnish Museum provides a very immersive cultural experience with artifacts, art, and even an indoor mock sauna. The museum hosts various cultural events that are usually published on Facebook or their website. This museum is a must visit year round. You can still celebrate Finnish cultural legacy in Fairport Harbor.

We are headed to Ohio this weekend so hoping the shop will be open when we go there. We will visit the museum across the street also. Fairport Harbor is a neat little town and we enjoyed lunch at the Sunset Grill right on Lake Erie.

Especially my son, who even got to participate in one of the tricks. Libby is so friendly and welcoming and the entire family was born to entertain! This is in the perfect location downtown Berlin and I'm glad we got to go. They also offer ghost tours, which is what we originally had wanted to do a few weeks ago, but it was rained out. I know we'll be back again to do it. Great little novelty shop and fantastic magic show. The seating is first come, first serve. There was a gentleman celebrating his 90 somethingth birthday and his family in attendance, plus another magician named Steve, and a few other families. The fact that other magicians come to watch speaks volumes! They are big on audience involvement, so my son was excited when he got to go on stage, He is a little shy, but I think he enjoyed being up there. No photography during the show, but we did get a little card signed by Mr. Madrikhan himself! My favorite trick was "The Moth". I still don't know how they did it.....And the Ancient Egyptian trick that ended the show- wow! We were blown away. We left with a starter magic kit, a dinosaur, a magnet, and great memories.

The owner was friendly and welcomed us with a cool trick (won't give his secrets away here). He told us a bit of history about the store and proudly let us know that the item I was purchasing (magnet) was made in the USA. There is A LOT of stuff in here. Some of it basic, touristy type stuff but there were so many cool figurines and lots of old (looking?) memorabilia. I found so many things in there that I would love to have. I also walked around the store repeatedly find new things each time. I still regret not buying the Edgar Allen Poe action figure...

This business appears to be doing everything right in light of the Corona19 pandemic. Sadly, the restaurant was temporarily closed until things return to normal. The pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and corn maze are all OPEN for business. This year's theme for the maze is "Essential Workers!" Definitely check this place out if you are in the area .... Cheers!

Aside from stocking up on quality lean buffalo, this place is a great destination to bring the kids. There is a petting zoo and corn maze. The best time to come is probably late summer-fall. The gift shop is perfect for finding a trinket or two for the kids for the ride home. And when the corn maze is open the restaurant is also open. This is actually more of a "snack bar" type of place - a grill where you can order buffalo burgers or other kid friendly foods. If you are looking for a polished more diner-like establishment you won't find it here. Again, if you are in the area for with the kids, they will surely enjoy a burger and fries or snack after running through the maze. This is also more of the old-fashioned, well worn kind of non-decor location. Even so, I have fun enjoying a burger and stocking my freezer. Four stars for the buffalo meat alone (on the pricey side but excellent). If you took that away I would give 2 stars.
