Just reminiscing on my horrible experience at the salon, not only when I call to voice my complaints Brenda and the manager at the time were both laughing, while I was sobbing over this hack job , they ended up refunding the $ for appointment, but Brenda was sure to keep her generous tip I had given. I went from hip length hair that was curled, to bra strap length straightened. I went in for a trim. I'm astonished that they still have her working here working with people , not only a horrible hairstylist but she has horrible customer service skills , and so does staff. This is a review for SHEENA. This salon has many independent stylists and you should get reviews for each because the salon itself has very little control over the experience. I researched salons to instal hand-tied extensions for 5 months before finding Sheena. I wanted someone knowledgeable in technique and multiple brands, reasonably priced, and flexible with my schedule. In my experience, this combination is * v e r y * hard to find. She promptly booked me for a consultation and immediately made me feel at ease by asking a ton of questions about my lifestyle, what look I was going for, and my maintenance expectation. When I say she asked me detailed questions about everything, I mean everything. It was the only consultation where I left and I felt like the stylist and I were on the exact same page. We booked my install for 3 weeks later and she ordered my hair when I said I was ready to work with her. On install day, she got to the salon before it technically opened and we were able to talk and work in peace without the hustle of a normal hair salon. She worked efficiently and swiftly to always keep the process moving. Even when my color was developing, she was arranging the extensions perfectly for the most effortless install. All in all, I was in the chair for 5 hours and left with the most STUNNING hair. Truly, I got the hair of my dreams. Best yet? There was a small problem with one of the installs, and she saw me the next day to fix it and recurled my hair free of charge. If you are LGBT+, Trans, or a PoC, this is not a safe or inclusive salon. I have been a client of Stefanie Holzer for multiple years. Her haircuts are okay, and I'm a creature of habit. Over time Stefanie added me to social media, spoke to me through text messages regarding appointments. This was fine for a while, but her messages, posts, and the conversations she would have while doing my hair have become more and more inappropriate. She posts transphobic and homophobic memes, openly discusses racist and offensive views, and makes micro-aggressions that have made me uncomfortable while in her chair getting a haircut. She bridged the gap between business and personal by adding me, a client, to her personal social media, and using that platform to make and discuss appointments -- this makes her social media relevant to her business practices. I don't normally care about someone's politics, but when you start criticizing Kamala Harris as unfit because she's black and fat-shame and misgender Rachel Levine with openly transphobic jokes, this goes too far. These are the most recent examples, but there are many others. I'm a gay man, but I don't often discuss it and generally pass for straight. I also am not easily offended. This went past my threshold to where I was and am uncomfortable. I tried discussing this with Stefanie, to let her know that it's inappropriate. She did not apologize or respond and instead, she blocked me. This sends me the clear message that LGBT+/Trans folx like myself are not welcome -- she is unapologetic about her views. I posted a review letting people know that I have had a negative and discriminatory experience, and in response, she reports the reviews, claims that I am not a client, and sends me threatening messages. I am requesting that the yelp moderators leave this review of my first-hand experiences up so that LGBT and trans folx know that this is not a safe or inclusive space. read more

Booked my appointment online with Stefanie Holzer for a full hair dye, with partial foil and cut. When I received the appointment confirmation the week prior to my appointment it only stated the partial foil and cut, but not the full color. I contacted the salon before the appointment to confirm that they knew it was for a full color as well. The receptionist who answered the phone confirmed that she did indeed see that in the notes and I should be good in which I thanked her for confirming as I didn't want to show up and not have enough time for everything needed. Now, fast forwarding to my appointment which was scheduled for this past Friday at 10:00 am. I arrive on time and was greeted by Stefanie who takes me to her chair and proceeds to tell me that she was just now reviewing my notes that morning and unfortunately she won't have enough time to do everything needed as she didn't schedule in enough time. This is exactly what I didn't want to happen. I took my time and energy to book my appointment and fill in the notes, which should have been read a week ago when I booked the appointment. The appointment was accepted by the stylist and she didn't read any of my notes until the morning of said appointment to realize she doesn't have enough time to complete what was requested. Stefanie was not accommodating or apologetic for the misunderstanding and tried to push it off on the receptionist. While I understand things happen, it's the way you conduct yourself in the moment that makes all the difference. I was so upset and felt dismissed, like my time was not important. I was really disappointed as I was looking forward to getting my hair done that morning and had moved several things around to make it happen. Also, that I took my time to call the salon prior to my appointment to confirm that they understood from the notes what I was needing done. I left the salon but returned to ask Stefanie for the Manager's name and Stefanie told me she would have the Manager call me as she was out of town. Stefanie then proceeded to tell me that I could call and speak with her but she wouldn't care. Then she told me "bye,bye" as she made a shooing motion with her hand towards the door and telling me I'll never get my hair done there. I replied "I would never come back" I was so upset with the nonprofessional approach to the whole situation. read more

Salon At 618 is my go-to hair salon! From color to cut, 618's provides superb customer service and many amazing stylists. I've been seeing stylist, Stefanie, for over a decade and in that time I've changed my hair in many ways - from red highlights to caramel, from short to shorter. Add more texture? Sure why not. Grow this out? Here's how to do it and still have hair you love. What I appreciate most about Stefanie is her willingness to entertain my ever-changing requests in hairstyles while also informing me of important things like the health of my hair or how color will fade over time so I can make the best decision. Have there been times when the color hasn't been exactly what I hoped? Sure, but when I tell her what I don't like about it, she makes the change to ensure I leave happy. And I always do! I know many of the other stylists at the salon (SHOUTOUT to Liz and Heidi who, in addition to Stefanie, are stylists to my mother, sister, tons of friends and co-workers). The salon is modern with local artwork on display, current trend products, and clean space. The front desk manager, Jen, is always rockin' a smile and friendly voice when I call/get my confirmation messages for upcoming appointments. I'm always asked if I'd like a beverage - water, soda, wine oh yea! The extra touches matter at least to me. Sure, there's dozens of alternative salon choices in Gainesville. Do yourself a favor and consider choosing stylists that genuinely care about your hair, making a lasting professional relationship with you as their client, and truly want you to leave feeling cared for. Worst customer service experience of my life. I paid $200 for a "full highlight" & asked for a money piece... you can see the result below. Do not let Tawnya H. touch your hair. I left the salon with darker hair than when I went in. I messaged her pictures & she told me to wash the toner out with dawn dish soap... that only completely dried out my hair. She was then "too busy" to have me come in to fix it. I called the salon to speak to the manager & they took a message then never returned any of my calls. Tawnya saw my hair in person & told me it was "exactly what I wanted" after I clearly expressed my unhappiness for over a week to her... and there are still no highlights except the huge uneven strip in the back that is very embarrassing... clearly this is the work they are proud of... I can't speak to the rest of the stylists in the place, but if you're a new client I wouldn't take your chances here because they refuse to refund. Hope this saves another broke college student from being extremely upset. read more

Was referred to Ruthie - could not get in with regular stylist and OMG, she is a super bossy control freak!! Refused to cut my daughter's hair unless we agreed to let her cut 5 INCHES - said it was damaged. She also told her that nobody needs hair past their elbow!! A little jelly? My daughter has super thick, super long hair and it is gorgeous - but she definitely needed a trim. She has had a professional stylist since she was in elementary school and gets her hair done every three months - cut & color. Think Ruthie needs to get a grip and remember how to be professional - and what great customer service looks and sounds like!! She was rude to my daughter because of her age - I told the receptionist, Jennifer (who was professional and very nice), on the phone that my kid is a college student so I just don't understand why Ruthie was so very rude to her... We routinely pay $200 plus 20% tip for the services that we asked her to perform - a foil highlight, full head, and a trim - so Ruthie's loss. We found someone else - think we dodged a bullet. If she controls the length, she will want to control the color - hairdressers who don't listen to their customers don't last long in G'ville!! read more
