She was very kind, considerate and I appreciated her attention to detail by asking during the mani/pedi if the length, shape and color was what I wanted, then I got a little massage. She did an excellent job. The salon is nice, clean and has a rustic vibe. I had plenty of colors to choose from, my petty chair was rocking the massage feature. I got my hair cut by Ceci about six weeks ago. I've debated a lot over leaving this review but I can't deny it anymore---my hair is completely messed up. Not only was it not what I asked for, but objectively the cut is bad. I specifically remember saying that I wanted the shortest layer no shorter than my jaw, and the shortest layer I have lands on the very top of my cheekbone. The front layers of my hair have about a one inch length difference from the rest of it and is not blended at all. It's like I have a bowl cut on the top half of my hair and the rest of it is the length I asked for. It is going to takes MONTHS for my hair to grow out enough to even consider going somewhere else for them to fix it because it's so short. I've had good experiences here before, but this just ruined it for me. They do incredible pedicures, but I'm never coming here for a haircut again. I see how badly it was cut more and more every day and I am so upset that this is going to take so long to grow out, all because it was cut 3-4 inches shorter than I asked. I'm writing on behalf of my wife who has a really unfortunate experience with this salon. Initially, she had a positive experience changing her hair color to brunette and enjoyed working with a particular stylist at the solon. However, subsequent visits over the past few weeks, after her preferred stylist's departure, have been disappointing. Despite booking an appointment online and arriving on time, she was informed that the process would take too long and had to reschedule. She was promised that in the next appointment, her desired hair coloring would be completed with no issues. Arriving at her next appointment she faced another setback when an employee expressed discomfort with bleaching her hair. Despite multiple attempts, her desired outcome hasn't been achieved, leaving her frustrated. She requested a discount for the inconvenience of traveling and paying for long parking sessions, which was promised to be discussed with the owner, yet she hasn't received a follow-up call as assured and she instead had to reach out a week after the fact and was met with apologetic hosts apologizing for the owners lack of professionalism. After a week or of calling the salon, with promises of the owner being contacted by the host to reach out to my wife, she eventually received an email from the owner after having directly emailed him. Very similar to the comments on negative reviews here, the owner seemed uncaring of his customers and instead seemed unapologetic for the extremely delayed responses and the negative experience my wife has faced. It seems the owner is more interested in pushing blame on his customers rather than taking any responsibility. As her husband, I find this lack of professionalism and coordination unacceptable, as it has resulted in wasted time and money for my wife. I imagine the stylists have no control and are great at what they do, but if they promise or you expect to have any interaction with the owner, prepare to be extremely disappointed. read more

I needed some color done and called Salon Di Marco, based on yelp reviews. They got me in right away for a consultation. I had dark blonde, between a 7 & 8 color and I wanted to go to a level 10 or 11 blonde. I met with Sydney and she was able to asses my hair and take notes and determine what all I would need to obtain my results. She told me that blonde is the most difficult color and that it might take more than 1 session to get what I want. I scheduled an appointment with Katy, who is a master stylist. She was so incredibly nice and talented! I showed her the pictures of what I wanted and she said she was very confident she could do what I was wanting, but wanted to also be realistic that it might not be quite as light in just 1 session. After about 3.5 hours, it was perfect! She gave my a really nice shadow root that matches my natural color, and a nice light blonde every where else! I was really happy with the result. I do want to let people know, this salon is not cheap! For the highlights, shadow root, and cut, it was over $220. And then you need to tip on top. I was a little shocked at the high price tag, but I also understood that she was able to give me exactly what I wanted. I do highly recommend Katy, she really has a talent for being able to recreate looks. And she also has the integrity to tell you if it won't work. read more

This was my first time here after being haircut free for over a year. After 20 years in the Air Force, long hair is not something I am used to. Corrina ("Carina" means "pretty" in Italian) was very nice and she did a great job with what she had to work with ... my hair. She washed my hair, cut it, and blew it dry, spending about 30 minutes overall ($25 + tip). The salon is in an old building downtown, occupying a large space two stores wide, with 12 foot ceilings and an old decorative copper ceiling (which could use a paint job by the way). Greeted as I walked in, my only complaint being that the nice pair of older ladies were offered tea by the receptionist while I was merely instructed to "have a seat". I've been coming to Morgan for my nails consistently for the last 6 or so months. I always do the shellac manicure and an occasional pedicure. The service here is great! They always ask if you want tea or water upon arrival. Morgan does a great job with nails - even mine which are always so short. Since I got a gift certificate for Christmas, I was all set to have a pedicure in a relaxing spa environment. Unfortunately what I got was definitely subpar. The massage was ok, but the esthetician definitely would have rather been anywhere else but at work. She even said so. And the french tips I got were definitely subpar! Instead of pink I got a grey-brown background and she left (what?!?!) so I didn't know when to put on my shoes. No one else seem to care I was there so I ruined a $45 pedicure after 20 min of sitting alone in a room because I didn't know when it was dry. I would recommend going someplace that is more highly rated and with better staff. Will not be back. My friends get a MUCH better product at the other places in Lawrence. read more

I went here for hair coloring. I got highlights and was not super impressed. I then went again and got color. My blonde turned into an orange nightmare! But the new cut was great.The lady tried to fix it twice before I saw someone new there. Fortunately, the new stylist was able to make it MUCH better and they fixed it for free each time. EDIT: When I made another appt to try to correct my hair (since it eventually went back copper orange), the manager was very rude to me over the phone and made me feel worse about the situation. I went in to speak with him and felt better. However, I decided it would be best to get a second opinion from another salon. I liked their solution and attitude much better. I moved to go to school in Lawrence and was wondering if I'd find anywhere good enough to get my hair cut, as I'd come from living in big cities for the past 8 years. I wanted a drastic cut, so I decided on Salon Di Marco and chose Josef, who I'd heard good things about. I had really long hair and was nervous about it, but needed a change. Josef was the exact right person for the job. He was professional, kind, and personable. He is a talented stylist. He listens to what you want and makes it fabulous, with an excellent eye for detail. I think he's ruined me for other stylists, I cannot imagine going to anyone else! As someone who generally hated haircuts and found it hard to go and get the thing done, he makes it feel easy and enjoyable. Plus you look awesome after you see him! My stylist, Corinna, has left this salon and opened her own salon with Nicolette (and I believe Josef is working there too) called the Dandy Hair Studio. With the departure of Corinna goes the departure of most of what I liked at this place. It's still clean and friendly, but don't ever see myself going back. The only other service I had at Di Marco was eyebrows by Shadoe who I cannot recommend. I had grown them out for 6 months to get as much of a blank canvas as I could and she did a terrible job! She sat me down and went to work without ever asking me what I wanted. By the end, she left me with literally the smallest eyebrows of my life. That includes the early 00s when pencil thin brows were all the rage. I had to wait another 6 months to grow them out and have someone else fix them. read more

My bf and I had the pleasure of experiencing a wonderful couples massage at Salon Di Marco with Yusefa and Jessica. It was thoroughly relaxing (he actually fell asleep!) My therapist was Jessica and both her method and pressure were perfect. There were a few techniques she employed that were new to me and felt amazing! My only complaint was that there was no proper waiting area for the spa treatments. My bf and I were left to wait in the salon area where people were getting their hair cut, blown dry, etc - not a good place to decompress before a massage. Prior to moving to Kansas I went to a high end salon that charged far more than Salon Di Marco and I can say that Salon Di Marco is superior to that salon in every aspect. I went to Salon di Marco last March, 2015 seeking an excellent haircut and color for my very fine hair. I chose Josef LaFromboise whom I had heard great things about. He gave the best cut and color I have ever had. He has now left the salon and works at a new salon called The Dandy Hair Studio located in the 200 block of east New Hampshire. Two other former Salon di Marco stylists left that salon and started this new studio. They were also two of Salon di Marco's best stylists. I came here for the second time Saturday afternoon and I really liked my stylist, Ashley. I purposely got a different stylist than the first time because I liked the first one okay, but thought I might like a different one better. Ashley did a great job helping me choose the right color for me and giving me the cut I wanted. She's really nice and funny. I've been getting my hair cut by Sarah since I moved to the area two years ago and she is fantastic. I especially like that when you ask for a trim, she really does just trim it. Especially in the beginning, she always took off less than I expected and now that I've seen her a lot more, she always asks exactly how much I want off and then follows through. I love that she tends toward taking off less rather than more, especially if I'm trying to grow it out. She also does a great job cutting the styles that I show her or describe - I've had her change my style multiple times and she always does exactly what I ask. I've also used their other services - the pedicures are only okay. The set up is nice for pampering, but I wish they would do a better job with getting the dead skin off - I have rough feet. I've not had a manicure. And finally, I like their massage area. It is very calm and quiet in the back. It is very clean and Taylor did a great job doing exactly what I asked. The price is pretty standard, but there are places in town that are both more and less expensive and I think this is worth the price. read more

This review is only for massage. I've been here a few times and am incredibly impressed with the massage. The back area is more relaxing than most places and a great environment. There are no additional amenities like a hot tub, sauna, or anything else but for massages it's top notch. I got just about the best massage of my life from Jessica C who said she had trained in Hawaii. A year and a half ago I visited this place for a trim and to correct my hair color from a summer of outdoor lifeguarding (green, orange, gross). My appointment was with Amber, who looked old enough to know what she was doing but she ended up frying my bangs so badly I had to have TWO INCHES of bangs cut off. I looked like a Raggety Ann idiot. I was livid. I went to the manager and told her about it and she explained to me that I take a risk of hair damage when I get my hair done and there's nothing she can do about it, so she gave me some free samples to make me feel better about it. Yes, people, free samples. Like, little plastic pouches of organic shampoos. Well, yesterday I was feeling nice and decided to give them another shot for a trim (since that one wasn't totally screwed up last time). I scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Alas, I just remembered that I made dinner plans with some friends! So, I called them 5 minutes ago and explained the situation to the girl who picked up. Did she offer to reschedule next week? Horrible Customer Services. Rude and unprofessional Hairstylist!!! Very uncomfortable atmosphere. Not kid friendly!!! My stylist was great, friendly and very helpful, so we decided to keep coming back in hopes that things would change. I am sick of this kind of treatment we continue to receive and will NEVER return to this salon again!!! I would not recommend this place!!! Ive had multiple hairstyles scold my school aged kids while I stood there watching my children. On our first visit to the salon my kids had been playing with one of the very few toys they had out. The hairstylist thought that they were talking and playing too loud and it was distracting. Let me add that anyone that has set foot in this salon knows that when someone just talks normal, as my kids had been doing, there is a eco and besides that each time there has been maybe one other client in the salon. Anything would sound loud in this place. So then, the hairstylist asked them very rudely to put away the toys. When we returned to the salon, ALL 3 of their toys had been removed. We made sure to bring our own entertainment, iPad, so that was fine. On a different occasion, we decided to use another girl since our normal girl was booked and we needed our haircut. My daughter choose to sit next to my son while he got his haircut. There was no other clients in the salon and the girl didn't tell her she couldn't, so we thought it wasn't a big deal. My daughter started twirling in the chair, I did not think this was a problem. She wasn't harming anything or one and was keeping quite. Very rudely yet again, the hairstylist that was cutting my sons hair, turned and looked at her with a nasty look and told her to stop. She could of asked kindly and she would of stopped no problem. Instead I asked her to come sit with me in the waiting area, she did as told with no problem. On this same day, later on, we had another girl give my kids the evil eyes, while following us around, making rude comments under her breathe. My kids and I had been following our hairstylist as she was showing and offering us the different products. The kids were right next to us the whole time and were playing, rock paper scissors, I guess she thought it was distracting and loud. I didn't think so and neither did our hairstylist. When I went to pay, I made sure I told the receptionist about what had happened. While I was talking to the receptionist the girl that I was complaining about, left her client, just to sit underneath the cut out window to listen in on what I was complaining about. In conclusion, I would not recommend this place if you have children!!! read more

When I couldn't get in with Dakota I still had great experiences with the other stylists on staff. They were all very educated and I would trust them to do anything with my hair. I don't often go to new salons but I was in desperate need of a cut and color. I was wary because I have very very thick and long hair and it takes a great stylist to do my hair right. I tried di Marco and they did an AMAZING JOB. Marysa took the time and effort to listen to what I wanted, help me pick a good color, and took the time and effort to color and cut my crazy hair. She was fantastic and I am so happy with the results, I will definitely be back. Cons are there are some dye stains on my ear and forehead but those will wash out and it is pricey (94 for cut and color, 10 extra because they needed to use another bowl of dye for my thick hair) but it's worth the price for the results I got! read more

I moved to Lawrence three years ago from Chicago and was convinced that I wouldn't be able to get a good haircut here. However, my first week in Lawrence, I made an appointment with Josef and have been consistently impressed with his skills and his professionalism, not to mention that he's just an awesome person. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone - I've brought several friends to him and they were also convinced of his amazingness (and refuse to go anywhere else). He not only gives a great cut, but he pays attention to details that I've never had a stylist notice - i've never had uneven sideburns or an uneven neckline, not ONCE. even my best stylists in Chicago missed a hair or two every once in awhile. He is also just really nice to talk with - he is very easy going, funny, and charming. I love Salon di Marco, specifically Josef, and don't know what I would do in Lawrence without him. read more

When we moved to Lawrence, we looked for a personable stylist (to transition my daughters from someone that they loved out-of-state). We made an appointment with Josef at Salon Di Marco. He was perfect for our family. He took the time to get to know us, did not rush through the typical "children's haircut," but most importantly he listened to us and suggested ideas but ultimately we collaborated on our style...it was fun! There have been many transitions at Salon Di Marco over the last year or so and with that transition Josef has moved to the Dandy Hair Studio along with a couple other stylist. New to the area. Originally from Kansas City Mo now living in Topeka. Couldn't find a decent stylist in Topeka so thought I would try Lawrence. Saw reviews online and decided to try out Salon Di Marco and Josef because of a few good reviews on him. Went for appointment, haircut and three color highlight. Salon is not decorated very well, kind of bare. Not very relaxing. Lighting wasn't very good at station so I couldn't see the true color of my new highlights until I got home. I was pretty much horrified. It is mostly orange with a few blond highlights. I paid a total of $250 and my hair is just collar length and was collar length when Josef cut it. Their prices are very very unreasonable and the products are very expensive too. I purchased two finishing products each less than 8 ounces and it was $65 for two products. I will NOT be going back. No way. I now have toner I am going to apply myself to help get rid of the orange hair. I don't recommend this place to anyone.....unless you want orange hair. read more
