I went into HMDisco with long hair (about shoulder length, kinda 80s Big Hair Vibes - think Bon Jovi/Guns n Roses). I asked for layers, so that I could get more 'action' out of my hair, as it was similar length and becoming difficult for me to work with. I asked for layers / 'bon jovi' vibes. I walked out with my hair above my ears... It's now going to take me 12-18months to grow this back. It's put me in an undesirable position, as I have some big marketing/promotional videos coming up. Worst of all, I walked in loving my hair, wanting to improve it. And, I walked out wanting to put a hat on. Too hungover from another great Taco tuesday night at the Alibi room (when it was cool, its almost cool at the moment but its just not what it used to be) to even care about what I was doing or where I was going something compelled me (it may simply of been the weight of my hair mountain propelling me forward) to inquire as to whether or not they could fit me in for a simple cut. An hour later I was out of there with the best hair cut I have had in ages and for half the price I was expecting to pay. I informed the owner/the lady who cut my hair at the time that I had only just moved in around the corner and that I was living with 10 other guys (long story). My bright blue bits in my hair had significantly faded, but I am used to most hairdressers not having any decent blue in stock - not at ARC. Gary enthusiastically rifled through some drawers and pulled out a bunch of colours, including a "peacock blue" that worked perfectly. Totally stoked. The colour touch-up didn't cost me an arm and a leg, though it did cost Gary his hands - they were stained bright blue because he hadn't worn gloves. "I look like a smurf!" Four stars because their website isn't quite up to date as far as their current wine bar menu. The cocktail list has been significantly cut down since ARC opened, so no negroni for me. (I settled for a cosmopolitan and it was delicious.) I walked out of ARC with a handful of "refer a friend" cards. They didn't push them on me, I asked for them. Even though I was just having a wash and a trim, the other patrons were leaving with some nicely styled cuts. They offer special packages, from a simple treatment and style blow-dry, through to a full head of foils and a treatment. Cuts and foils are on the expensive side, but if you're willing to spend the money, it is definitely worth it. Especially if you're feeling a tad thirsty.

I will give you a word of warning though, do not expect to be able to walk in without an appointment. When making an appointment, you will be asked which what level you wish your hairdresser to be at, keep in mind that the price differs accordingly to the experience level of the hairdresser. I usually ask for the a second level hairdresser which costs me $75 which includes blow drying and straightening. Upon arrival, you will be offered a tea or coffee and biscuit. You will then get a relaxing massage before the hairdresser begins cutting away. Whenever I have asked my hairdresser questions relating to products for my hair, she has been very helpful and it is clear she knows what she is talking about. I never feel like I am being pushed to buy a product also, she is very respectful of that. Overall, I recommend this hairdressers. The staff are generally very nice and have the skills to back that up.
