EVER EVER come here. All the positive reviews for this place is a complete joke! i thought since it was rated 5. Stars, it would be awesome. My old stylist moved so i picked this place. Omg worse choice ever. Piss poor horrible work. Even with a consultation, they will promise that they can do the work right. Lies. I had very long hair that had veryvery old tint red. I was PROMISED to get it out and Givin a brow color witha baylage ash BLONDE . They chopped at least 2 inches (if not more) off and started with the bleach. Soooo much damage. Highlights everywhere, almost to the root. The whole time it was in the sink, i could feel my hair ripping with a lot ofpain. Brushing went the same. I complained, and I was told it was a special brush. So much of my hair was ruined at the top just from that. And it was VIRGIN HAIR! not. Even old color. After it was "done" in bad lighting it was bad. "Outside light is better!" It wasnt. AND she AND the owner noticed that I was not happy and tried to play it off. It looked terrible and the texture was so fried that I coud not run my hands through it. All it was was ripping pain. My fiance saw it right after and asked if I had wanted the top of the color grey. HELL NO! And I either got no compliments or "oh." I asked for half refund and the owner said no, its policy and that I should come back for a glaze and conditioner. HELL NO! I was already charged for that. I went to Aveda and they put two intense conditioners, glaze, AND foils to break up the "highlights". Result: soft shiny non-grey and orange hair, looking great. The J elle Owner will screw u and cares more about 300 dollars than a happy client. Do NOT go to this selfish salon!!!! read more

I absolutely love this place. I found this place while looking online one day. I was going to be in a wedding and needed my hair done ASAP. The salon I used to go to "lost my appointment" and couldn't fit me in. Salon J-Elle was my rescue. When I called, they said they could schedule Sam to do a cut and color. After having arrived, I was introduced to Sam. Let me tell you about Sam- this girl is AMAZING!!! Not only is she a ton of fun to chat with, she is an incredible stylist!! I could explain what I want and Same doesn't come close to nailing it on the head- she smashes it! I know people always talk about how you feel so amazing after you leave from getting your hair done, even if it isn't exactly what you asked for- well Sam gives you exactly what you asked for. She is a total doll!! She doesn't just worry about my hair's style, but she also worries about its health. She has hooked me up with amazing products!! The salon is an all around great place and for me, Sam and her skills is the icing on the cake! I have never left from a salon feeling as good as I have after leaving from Salon J-Elle and Sam. She is an absolute master of the craft! I would absolutely recommend to this place to anyone and everyone!! read more

I would highly recommend this salon, especially Courtney who is a stylist par excellence. I am from the East Coast, temporarily relocated to New Orleans for a year, and needed a simple root touch up. Based on careful internet research I found Salon J Elle and, as luck would have it, was assigned to Courtney. She was happy to do just a root touch up as I had originally wanted, but gently pointed out some other things I could do to improve my hair in general. Long story short - I have been going to her regularly since I've been here. She corrected the color flaws I had, gave my hair depth and richness it never had, and gave me a very attractive stylish cut. I've never had so many compliments about my hair ever. So if I were to summarize what anyone would want in the perfect stylist it would be: (1) make recommendations and provide cuts and coloring, tailored for you (2) provide tips for how to take care of your hair between salon visits (3) tell you which products will really work for your hair, without pushing anything on you. Courtney is definitely all that and more. I am just really sorry that when I head back home to the East Coast I can't take her with me! read more

It has always been a challenge for me to find a hair stylist who possessed raw talent along with an authentic personality to make me feel completely comfortable....until now. Today was the first day of a new friendship with Brittany at Salon J-Elle. She worked on a pixie cut for me- a cut that demands a sharp eye for detail, along with lots of patience. Brittany crafted this cut flawlessly. She never stopped until she had the "right cut for me." You don't see this kind of determination in people very often. So, I had much appreciation for her unyielding persistence. And Brittany wasn't the only stylist with these remarkable qualities. It seemed as though every stylist took pride in her work. This was a pleasant surprise. It's evident the owner also has a lot of pride in her salon and in her stylists' abilities to give every guest a sense of confidence when they leave. It's an art - to be able to balance quality work with genuine service for every single guest. And as I mentioned, it's an art that is increasingly rare to find. Today was my first time at this hair salon. All I have to say was absolutely amazing! Sam did my hair perfectly! I'm so in love with it! I got my hair dyed, cut, and styled. I came in, showed her what I wanted and she said she could do that and then she asked me my budget, which I liked. Instead of going with the deep violet color that I originally wanted, I changed it to a more red color, which Sam recommended and I'm so happy I went with that instead of the violet color! She set the dye in my hair and checked on me periodically to make sure I was still doing good. Once she started to wash the dye out my hair, she told me everything that she put in it and said what the purpose was. She recommended a few products for me that would help better my damaged hair. Sam and the whole staff were very friendly and interactive and didn't just make small talk here and there. They made me feel welcomed. Once again, she did a phenomenal job! Love Amanda Lee!!! Salon J-Elle has broken my pattern of never staying with one place or one stylist. I typically like to explore different options and go with the flow. Never again!! I was referred by a family friend to see Amanda Lee after I got home from Afghanistan in 2011. She made me feel immediately comfortable as if I'd known her for years. I went in for a cut and color but always had difficulty explaining exactly what I want. She listened to every word, showed me examples and put in some of her ideas too. The finished product came out AMAZING and I was beyond satisfied. I have been going to her for two years now and couldn't be happier. I love changing hair styles constantly from long layers with deep red to a short textured bob...classy angled bob you name it. It's a new experience every time and I am thankful to have a stylist that can either do the same cut/color each time if you wish or keep changing with seasons. EXCELLENT CHOICE! Looking for a great hair salon, look no further!! Made a last minute, late Friday afternoon hair appointment, had never been to Salon J-elle before but knew of it's location. Hadn't been to a salon in ages as I have long hair and usually trim bangs myself but I was LONG overdue for an overall trim and shaping. Sadie answered the phone and said she'd be glad to take me that afternoon. Having waist length hair, Sadie had her work cut out and she did an excellent job! I thought I was in for a quick shampoo, trim and blow dry but Sadie took her time and I got the royal treatment. I have a natural wave to my hair and have never straightened it before. Sadie offered to style it that way so I said "go for it!" When she was finished, my hair felt like silk, it looked great and I've been getting compliments ever since. If you go to this salon, I highly recommend Matti! Matti has colored my hair several times, and the results have always been fantastic. She really knows what shes doing with those chemicals and how to apply them to get your desired result. I've also had her cut my very long hair; I ended up wanting to get most of it chopped off to make a very drastic change and, needless to say, going from long to super short was a bit anxiety inducing. Matti managed to assuage my fears and the end result was the haircut I had envisioned. What else can this renaissance hair stylist do? Updos. Yes, updos. I needed my hair done for a formal occasion but I had a very tight schedule. Matti worked with me and went out of her way to fit me in. She managed to do an updo that was not only stylish but lasted throughout the night. Seriously if you haven't been here, go asap! The salon is on top of a bar but don't let that deceive you, it's super cute, clean, and they carry a great variety of high end products. I went to Sam to get Balayage highlights and lowlights. She is really talented, she has a great eye and really looks at your hair with the whole picture in mind like an artist would. It's so important for me and I think most busy women to have a hairdresser who can tell what looks will work with my face shape, my eye color, skin color, etc and will be honest with me about how I can look my best. Sam has a natural eye because the compliments haven't stopped since she colored my hair, and it was the first time we met! I went to Brittany at Salon J-Elle for the first time today because they have a killer Groupon for highlights right now. Brittany did a really wonderful job!! She gave me beautiful blonde highlights that look incredibly natural - exactly what I asked for. She had many ideas for new ways to style my hair, which I didn't want to go for since it was my first time getting my hair done by her. Now I definitely want to go back and let her work her magic because she has totally proven that she is a very talented stylist. She takes her time to make sure everything is exactly as it should be so make sure you have a good amount of time free for your appointment (longer than you think). Our whole family loves Sam. My 11 year old loves to get specialty cuts. She's in the process of learning to fix her own hair. Sam always accommodates and always ends up spot-on with what my daughter has chosen. At the same time, she is cautious, remembering that she is just a child. My 8 year old and 5 year old love her, too and can't wait to get their hair cut. Sam also cuts my hair and my husband's hair. My hair is curly, and because of that I'm very paranoid. However, she allows me to be as nervous and frozen in fear (ha-ha!) without letting it affect her performance. I have not been disappointed once. So I came in showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted. She explains what she can do and we proceed. Everything was great,and she was very nice. After about 3 hours we were almost done . I informed her that i had an event and wouldn't be able to stay for a complete blow dry and style. She again did everything she could to help me out. They partially dried my hair so she could check the color,which i appreciate. My problem was when i looked at their website it said the service i was getting was 60, so i figured i would pay around $120- $ 130. I was charged $238. I was even charged for a style which i never got. I left regretting ever walking in since my hair wasn't what i wanted. read more

My experience at Salon JElle was relaxing and enjoyable. Samantha, the stylist changed my flat red color to a vibrant classic hue that everyone has told me looked better than any color I have ever had, and my hair has seen many shades through the years. I have fine and wavy hair, that gives even the most accomplished stylists fits because it falls as soon as its styled and hits the humidity outside. Went for a color consult on 7/29/16. I stopped coloring my hair and wanted the natural gray(!) to grow out but the blond color looked terrible with gray roots. Sadie said she could color it to match the roots and even consulted with other pros to discuss the right color. I went back on 8/5/16 for the color. I was nervous about such a big change but she made me feel at ease. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. It's like talking to an old friend. To say she did a great job doesn't do her justice. I have always been a blonde! Last week, I went to Ulta in Elmwood to have my hair toned to match my extensions. I was told this lady had 20 years of experience. It came out brown. I cried hysterically. I didn't know what to do. I happened to drive by Salon J Elle and Lauren saved my life. I model part time and so my hair is a huge part of my career. I got my hair done by one of the lovely ladies who work here, Matti, and I fell in LOVE with myself all over again! She did an amazing job on correcting my dye job and coloring it perfectly. She gave me a style that is perfect for summer days, a sleek short bob and I looked soo much better after the makeover. I had never been to this salon and normally would not have done such a drastic hair cut somewhere I had never been but I'm so glad I did. I had long thick hair and they did an adorable lob on me. The woman who did my hair, Marcy, was super attentive and gave me exactly what l asked for. I couldn't believe it was only $30. Even though I live on the Northshore I will be taking the drive to come here from now on. Seriously the best haircut I've ever had. Marcy will now my my regular go to. Wonderful salon with a balanced atmosphere. Brittany gave me a wonderful ombré while educating me about my hair, and how to style it, and maintain color. She did all this without pushing products on me. The most wonderful hair color experience I've ever had and the best time I've had at a salon.
