So relieved to have found an amazing new hair care professional in Hector here at Salon Oko! I live very nearby and can't tell you how convenient it is to be able to walk over and get in and get out quickly, along with the fact that this salon is beautifully appointed. Bonus points? It's in the same building as Starbucks, so if you're someone (like me) who derives a lot of joy in the occasional pre-treatment iced coffee...this is the spot for you! I know my place in the services ecosystem as a horrible client who only gets a haircut once every 8-10 months, on average. Given that, I was super grateful to Hector for being so welcoming and complimentary of my hair, and also giving me EXACTLY what I asked for (a keep the length / texturize a bit trim). No photos needed, I trusted their judgement totally and it paid off. Oko uses top quality products and I left with my hair feeling and looking as good as ever. Hector provided me with some great tips to keep moisture at the forefront of my haircare routine and I felt very well taken care of. The owner (Pawel) really cared about the bad experience I had and worked to fix it. He called me the next day, and asked me to come in for him to look at my hair himself. He took some photos to show Katya, as she is the one who had done a great job on my hair the first time I went (a different colorist worked on my hair most recently, when I had a bad experience). Then they scheduled me to come in when Katya was available. Katya and Pawel understood what I originally wanted, and agreed that is not how my hair ended up. Katya did a "root shadow" to blend the top of the color, which looks AMAZING. Miracle worker. She also added some highlights right around my face to brighten the look, and gave me a trim to cut off the damaged hair. She's really skilled with color and cuts, and apparently also does bridal hair. I'm really happy she was able to give me the look I wanted and make my hair look great again! read more

While the cut and color I've received here are phenomenal the salon has been pretty unprofessional about handling appointments. I've only been here twice due to 3 cancellations by Pawel at the last moment with no effort to accommodate the client, which I find surprising since he's the owner! This last experience really was the last straw - my sister was getting married and I booked my appointment months in advance only to be cancelled not once but twice the week of the wedding! I had to make a huge fuss to atleast get someone to color my roots which was mainly done by an assistant but charged full price. And to add insult to injury they couldn't dry it "too much" either so I had to walk out in the cold with wet hair! Thanks a bunch read more

Katya is the only person I trust with coloring my hair. Others have left me with brassy, chunky highlights. The way she does bayalage always makes my hair look healthy and natural without any brassiness. The salon has good hours and lots of street parking. It's always easy for me to find a parking spot. Just had the weirdest experience here. I was getting a dry blowout and the stylist only spent 20 minutes on my hair. She was miffed because when she started brushing my hair with a wooden paddle brush it was hurting and breaking my ends and I asked her if she would be careful. My experience was awesome. After getting a color and cut from another salon that I was not happy with, I called Architeqt and was able to schedule and appointment the very next day (unheard of in Philly)! I found street parking right outside the salon (also unheard of in Philly), and only waited a few minutes before LB was ready for me. I let her know my specific areas of concern (brassy color, uneven cut) and showed her pictures of what I was going for. Let me tell you - LB did not disappoint! She took her time with each piece of hair to correct it, and I felt that she genuinely wanted to make sure it was perfect. I asked for her to clean up my ends, but that I still liked my length. She dry cut my hair to fix the uneven cut, cleaned up my ends, and somehow still basically kept my same length, impressive! My color is the exact cool-toned balayage that I was I was going for (LB = miracle worker). I went out on a limb to try somewhere new, and I am SO happy I did. The pictures speak for themselves. This cut was done by Pawel. I went back in today and another (very lovely) stylist (LB) tweaked it but all told I spent $130 for a haircut that after two trips to the salon is just ok. My usual stylist moved on and I was looking for a new spot and went based on great reviews. I won't be going back. I hate leaving bad reviews but this experience really bummed me out. read more

I had a good experience going to this salon for the first time a couple months ago. Ive been trying to return again for about a month now. The first time i tried to request an appointment online and never heard back. Then i was finally able to book an appointment over the phone. Then a couple hours before the appointment the salon called and cancelled. So the receptionist was able to "reschedule" me. Only to find out, a couple days later, that i wasn't "rescheduled" to a correct time and there were no available appointment for another few weeks. Booking a hair appointment shouldnt be this difficult and i didnt feel like anyone was willing to work with me after it had been the salons fault for all of the cancellations. read more

I went in for a partial balayage. The end result was nice. It was cooler than what I had wanted, I prefer a warmer golden look, but still lovely. Initially, I called the salon in because I did not want to pay for more than $100 and opted for a partial v. full balayage to pay less. I also told the person on the phone I did not want any other service as I am a student on a budget. The stylist was nice enough to provide a complimentary bang trim. There was miscommunication however when she offered to blow dry my hair. She told me it was going to be free if one of the junior staff members dried my hair or she could do it. I said yes, believing that I was consenting to the free service. If the service was not free I would not have opted for it as I was not going anywhere that night that would merit a $45 blow out I could do myself. In the end I was charged $185. I was charged $95 for the balayage, $45 for gloss (which no one told me would result in a higher cost), and $45 for the blow out. I spoke to the receptionist about my concerns and was told that I would be contacted later on to discuss my concerns. This resulted in a giant headache that was resolved a month later. I was refunded the gloss ($45) and charged only $25 for the blowout. I wish that the salon would have been more explicit with pricing. After all I scheduled the appointment saying explicitly that I did not want to pay for additional services. I was not happy with the customer service from the receptionist or the manager. They both spoke to me as if I were a nuisance rather than a customer. I was looking for a long term salon but was disappointed that I was immediately treated as someone who was trying to take advantage of them when that is how I felt. I felt like I was taken advantage when my bill catapulted to $185. I appreciate the refund and the compromise, but this was a huge headache. The receptionist was extremely rude. At one point she sneered "what do you want?!" and told me that she was having a bad day when I explained that she should not talk to people in that tone. Having a bad day should not give you a pass to greet customers with a hateful tone. I explained my concerns about being overcharged and she felt the need to tell me that she hardly makes any money herself as a receptionist. All in all an incredibly unprofessional demeanor. Got a hair cut with Pawel and he did a really nice job. He listened to what I had to say and offered his recommendations. I have very fine hair that grows supppperrr slowly so I really appreciated that he didn't take off too much length. It had been awhile since my last cut so he shaped it up really nicely. Love that he does dry cuts because you really get a sense for where the cut is going as it's being cut. The blow out was amazing and he added some beachy waves. The reason I took away a star- this was my first time at the salon and when I booked my appt with the receptionist I wasn't told I was being booked with the owner (whose prices are significantly higher then the other stylists). I feel like this is important to mention or at least ask what level stylist I am looking to see as the price difference can be substantial. FULL DISCLOSURE: The owner of the salon got in touch with me through yelp, apologized for my negative experience and offered to reimburse me for the cut, which I gratefully accepted. I raised the review by one star, because one of my complaints (about price) was obviously assuaged. I did go to a local salon and I got my cut fixed a bit more, which I like a lot better. I also really appreciate that the owner bothered to reach out to me in order to improve my experience - that definitely goes in the plus column! I am leaving my original review in its entirety below, for your reference. Pros: Eventually got the cut I wanted Cons: Argumentative Didn't respect my wishes Overpriced I should start by saying that I did end up liking the haircut I got, for the most part, it was just an incredibly unpleasant experience. I have a very round face, so conventional hair wisdom is that I should stay away from short hair cuts. Nevertheless, I have had a pixie cut in the past and I absolutely adored it. I had to cancel my appointment at Volume, so I came to Architeqt because they had walk in availability. I was assigned Anna, who seemed nice enough. I had a picture of myself from the last pixie cut, and I told her that that was what I wanted. She told me that that was too masculine and wouldn't look good, and if I insisted that it be short, she could do some kind of choppy cut with the top a lot longer. We spent 10+ minutes arguing about this, and I finally acquiesced when she said that she wanted to try the longer cut but she would cut it down if I didn't like it. No matter how much I explained that I had already tried a variety of cuts, and I knew what I wanted, I couldn't convince her. I decided to get on with it, and planned to give feedback along the way. She did the choppy cut which she liked and I hated. I told her I didn't like it, and asked her to cut it down a lot and thin it out a ton. She kept on cutting it down bit by bit, and I had to keep on telling her to cut it down more. Finally, it got to approximately what I wanted (a bit thicker and a bit longer) and because there was a line of people waiting, I decided to give up. I had asked her to do it so it would require no work at all - seriously, washing it regularly is really the max I am willing to do - but she put a ton of crap in it, so I don't know what it will look like on a regular basis. If I don't like it tomorrow, I will go back and ask them to fix it. I am incredibly annoyed about this experience for a number of reasons. First, I came in and I told her exactly what I wanted. This was not an issue of adapting a haircut from someone else - it was a picture of me, so I know that my cut is possible. Second, there is absolutely no way that a customer should have to fight so hard to get what they want. I have a strong enough will where she couldn't force me into something I didn't want, but I think that a lot of people (or me, 3 years ago) could be pressured into her vision rather than their own. Third, this was just an incredibly overpriced cut. 75+tip for something I don't love is just way beyond what I expect to pay. I have had much better haircuts at Ulta for less than half the price. Save your money and go somewhere else. Having to argue for what you want is not pleasant, and really shouldn't be part of the experience. read more
