I've been taking adult open classes here for about a year and find that most evening and weekend classes tend to be crowded, so try a weekday daytime class if you can. There's street parking on Wisconsin Ave and side streets or discounted parking in the Giant Foods garage (remember to get your parking validation from the receptionist). While the faculty each have their own styles, all the ones I've taken from are top-notch instructors who were former (or are currently) professional ballet company dancers. I think I've finally figured out the five levels for adult classes, which are not as they're labeled, IMO: - Beginning 1. For dancers in their first couple years of ballet study, or who are rehabbing after not dancing for 1+ years. The teacher will explain ballet terminology. - Beginning 2. Not actually for beginners. Full barre and center combinations. - Advanced beginning. If tombe-pas de bourree-glissade-saut de chat is in your muscle memory. - Intermediate I. Dancers are doing double-plus pirouettes. Petite allegro can have jumps with beats. Combos are more intricate, challenging... and FUN! - Intermediate II. You'll see some dancers en pointe, and pros occasionally drop in. The class moves fast, where the teacher doesn't even have to fully demonstrate the combo yet everyone knows what they're doing. Fouette turns. If you're on the fence about which level to attend, I recommend trying the safer/lower level first, then moving up as you become comfortable. Overall, TWSB is a wonderful place to take ballet class in the DMV area!

What I really appreciated is that they did not over explain steps. We covered a lot of material in a class session and it was really straight forward. Then open rueda and social after the class. I am still somewhere between beginner and intermediate, so the open ruedas are still a bit overwhelming, but in time I will feel more comfortable! Highly recommend!

The teachers and office manager know all of us by name; the teachers take time to get to know their students (what makes them click and inspires them) and the office manager takes time to get to know the parents/caregivers, etc. and makes them feel welcome! During the COVID shutdown, the studio amazingly pivoted to virtual instruction very quickly. We were taking classes online before the schools or other activities were able to make the switch. As restrictions loosened, the studio welcomed in person dancers in a super safe manner and offered virtual instruction for those not comfortable with in person classes. Both were very well done. When school continued to be virtual, the studio offered a scholars program which allowed students to do their school work in the studio and take dance classes during their breaks. It was a social godsend to provide a pod like environment for our kids who craved social interaction, and exercise during virtual school (all done in a safe manner)! I was always impressed with the care the studio took to address the concerns of the various families so that everyone felt comfortable! The dance studio offers a variety of classes for beginners to serious, competitive dancers. I'd like to highlight their unique teen dance program which allows teenagers who are beginning dancers to comfortably take classes with other students their age. You're never too old to start dancing! The dance studio is located in downtown McLean and therefore conveniently located for parents/caregivers who can run meaningful errands nearby while their dancers are in class. But, the studio also has a lovely waiting area if you want to watch the classes on TV. Overall, I highly recommend JSDA's dance studio!

Most classes are in the evening and the children enter the building through a back door which faces a dark parking lot. There is a small light on the back of the building which was not working and there are no lights in the parking lot. Studios in the area charge less and offer more.

Could have saved half the cost by just buying for 2 kids. You definitely don't need more than an hour either. It's really loud, so it's not great for autistic or sensory sensitive kids. My kids don't enjoy water directly in their face, and there's nowhere to go that doesn't have water landing directly in your face. There's nowhere for adults to sit, and it's a small room so there's residual splashing everywhere; wear pool shoes even if you don't go on the play structure and are just supervising the kids. During the 5-minute breaks once per hour, it would be nice if you could use the adjacent pool I but it was occupied with aquatic sports teams. Staff were very friendly, and the overall sports/rec facility looks huge and very clean. Locker rooms were very clean as well. For our family, however, it just wasn't worth the price paid nor was it the type of water park that would work for older kids or autistic kids.

The cost was $5 for kids and $7 for adults if you are Montgomery County residents ($20 otherwise). The large pool was really big and to our surprise there were not that many people there on the day we went. Overall a really great pool and would definitely come again.

First, if you need an address to find this park, you can use either 15700 Needwood Lake Circle,…read moreRockville, MD or 15700 Needwood Lake Circle, Derwood, MD. This park has two entrances - one on Avery Road and the other on Needwood Road. The one on Avery Road is closer to Go Ape Adventures which is located within the park (at a cost). As you enter this part of the park, and go down a hill, the road will eventually end at a stop sign. It is here you will see a sign that says, "Rock Creek Regional Park, Lake Needwood". You then have to decide if you want to go right or go left. If you turn right, you will come across the Golf Course, Picnic Area, and Archery. If you turn left, you will come across the Boat Shop, Picnic Areas, and Hiker/Biker Trails. Going Right at the "Rock Creek Regional Park, Lake Needwood" sign If you turn right, you will go over a few speed bumps. After you pass this area (and you will see Go Ape to your right), you will also see part of the lake to your left and a little crossing bridge (not for cars). On this side, I have seen people have picnics, go fishing, and hiking as well. If you continue on the road, you will come across a playground to your left and a parking lot - I guess there are more trails back there (I have not gone in the area beyond the playground). To the right of that lot is a place for archery. If you continue on this road, you will exit the park onto Needwood Road. Going Left at the "Rock Creek Regional Park, Lake Needwood" sign If you turn left, you will see a parking lot on your immediate right. Next to this lot, is a volleyball court - I have seen folks play volleyball here. If you continue through a walking path in the trees, you will come across some covered picnic tables and more trails taking you closer to the lake. As you get back in your vehicle, past this parking lot and follow the road, it will steer you to the right and you go down towards the lake. In this area of the road, I have seen people park on the road whenever the park gets crowded (there are marked spaces). As you continue down, you will see a much smaller parking area which is next to the boat house. You can walk through the boat house to another part of the lake, but as far as renting boats, that is only available during the summer months. Most times, this lot is filled, but not to worry, because if you continue traveling just a few feet more, you will come across an even bigger parking lot. It is in this bigger lot, you will come across a map layout of the whole park - more of Lake Needwood. There are also a few porta-potties. Within the area is a huge grassy field that is perfect to just lay a blanket and chill, but you may have to complete with geese in the area. There are 2 trails on this side by the map - if you go to the left, the trail is on a very flat surface - be careful when walking as you will end up crossing a few roads like Southlawn Lane and Avery Road, to name a few. By that same map, if you take the trail to the right, you will go up a hill, cross over the lake and continue on even more trails in this park. I like coming to Lake Needwood. I have done walks here on a few of the different trails and have even gone off the beaten path. Had lunch on a picnic table or two and even did pedal boating, however you won't ever find me in a kayak. Overall, it is nice to come here to just chill and enjoy nature. My first lesson was no pressure and I felt like I made a lot of progress. BTW, this is not Viennesse waltzing, which is a formalized style of waltzing. The kind of waltzing taught here is more of a "garden variety", and done by cultures all over the world. It's a 3-step candance (slow, quick quick), and anyone can do it, seriously. It might be the best $13 that I ever spent. That's the cost of admission, which includes a 45 minute lesson, followed by nearly 3 hours of dance time with a live band. The Spanish Ballroom, where the social dances are held, is a premier venue. The building itself is Art Deco architecture and considered to be one of the best ballrooms of its kind on the East Coast. The interior is decorated tastefully and lighted well. The expansive floor is made of a lovely maple wood. The live music is such a treat as the acoustics here are top notch. The social dances are a lot of fun, and waltzing isn't the only style offered--there's contra dancing; tango dancing; swing dancing; blues dancing, etc. The social dance calendar is quite extensive. But I don't think I was…read morefully prepared for this incredible group of people I met and this amazing sister (Nina), who owns this business and the choreographed dance prepared for us. I loved the versatility of the group there; clearly, every culture and age was represented, which made it even more fun. This is what the doctor ordered for me since I had been in my head all day about some things. Nina was one of the most encouraging, energetic, and supportive persons for this class. She made you want to push yourself to learn the choreography steps. She also let everyone know not to take themselves seriously and enjoy the dance, which I did by the end of the class. Now, let me say that I always thought I had some moves. But Bollywood challenged me a bit--okay, a lot. I took a video, but it's for my viewing pleasure; sorry. I sent it to my girlfriends so we can book a class with Nina. This allows for different classes to occur at the same time. There are different packages that you can sign up for in terms of how many private classes you want to take. By being a student of the studio, you are also able to participate in group classes as well (generally there are 3 Newcomers or Pre-Bronze group dance classes a week, great for beginners). The instructors are absolutely phenomenal. They are knowledgeable, extremely friendly and supportive, and constantly encourage us and themselves to improve our dance skills. In fact, they engage in continuing education by going to dance competitions and learning from others as well. At this studio, you'll rotate dance instructors which is great so that you get experience with different dance styles and tips from different people. My husband and I started dance class as a way to prepare for our first dance at our wedding. We had never properly danced before and our bodies just don't "go with the flow." But...the instructors helped us get more comfortable with dancing and now it's become a shared hobby of ours! After the wedding, we decided to continue going to dance class to continue skill building in a supportive environment that pushes us out of our comfort zones. They have a ton of space for dancing which is really all you really need to worry about. We went for a free introductory session where we learned the basics of the foxtrot, waltz, and foxy in about 45 minutes and we had one on one treatment with an instructor. They will talk to you after the session to try to get you to sign up but they did not pressure us and they give an introductory discount which I think is reasonable. Once you sign up for one on one sessions, you are also able to take group sessions and parties which is a pretty good deal! The staff was super helpful and so hospitable. Overall a great experience as we are looking forward to making this part of our weekly date nights!

Hate how to studio is really tiny compared to most other places, and then the stupid beam in te middle! But the classes themselves are so good, I hate to take off a star for the studio! Completely run by the sisters, it's a great place to sweat off those calories! The studio, tho tiny, is very well maintained, the bathrooms too. The music is absolutely awesome, even tho I'm not a fan of Spanish/ Latino music! The moves are great - not too simple, but not overly complicated either! Love how the moves are so girly too! :):) The fact that they give you a key chain card is again awesome! Will Continue coming here :):) way to go girls!
