Most recently, Nina and I attended "The Winter's Tale" last season. It was the first play we had attended anywhere since the start of the pandemic and we were thrilled. We took the shuttle bus up the hill and bought dinner from the concession stand. I remember it as being very good. Our seats in the amphitheatre were well placed w/ good sightlines. The acting was excellent, as it always is. "The Winter's Tale" is one we have seen many times and a play we love. We enjoyed the production a lot until the very end, which we both found disappointing. The play is about reconciliation, forgiveness and redemption and those qualities were given short shrift because of the cuts/edits that were made by the adapters, Eric Ting and Philippa Kelly. I have no issues w/ people editing Shakespeare's plays, reimagining the settings, etc, as long as that works in the service of the play's intent. Cutting out the heart of what the play is about doesn't do that. When the play was over we looked at each other in disbelief and disappointment because the rest of it had been so complex, colorful and well done. We will keep an eye out for future productions and will check the reviews, but like Berkeley Rep, we probably won't subscribe.

Sorry to see that this venue has gone out of business. We enjoyed it while it was there.read more

Yelp is a good place here. - terrible management (extremely worse) - when the class was cancelled, no one notified me - never followed up for any concerns - their lessons didn't follow based on the lesson plan on their website, my child didn't learned much especially they only taught so little from the book material and spent most of the other time on something else - teacher showed up late many times - they never answered phone call or responded to your emails (I tried 3 times in a week for over 2 weeks, then I finally gave up) - some students were out of control and disturbed the class, but the school didn't take any actions or make any improvement - extremely disappointed because I was expected this place would have high standard with clear lesson plans and their costs were high. However, I was wrong! Disappointed! - I can guarantee you that you can find a better place elsewhere than Musically Minded Academy.

My child was one of the youngest, so her participation was mainly around thinking about what character she wanted to be in the play while the older kids helped write out the plot and script. Everyone then worked on costumes and the set decorations. My child enjoys arts and crafts was very proud of her contributions to the props. They then rehearse which is a bit challenging for younger children - the concept of practicing and performing didn't take hold until day 4 and they had to do some re-writing to accommodate my child's ability to remember/say lines. Anna was very patient and able to meet her at her level. Everything worked out in the end and the Friday performance was adorable. It's definitely more of a casual, family-run place which is refreshing though it may not work well for children that require a lot of supervision. All in all, my child has fond memories of her experience and I know that it'll be much easier for her to participate in future performance-based events.

Mynx got back to me within 24 hours and I had a spot reserved in her class that same day so it was extremely fast and painless. The classes are held in Bay Functional Fitness gym in Oakland. Parking might be a little tough at first if you don't know the area and it's a pretty busy street so you should give yourself extra time to find parking (they will lock the doors after class has started but if you're lucky and they actually haven't started the activities yet then they'll let you in although I'm not sure if they'd leave you out either way). And if you don't drive, it's only about half a mile away from Rockridge Bart!
