I found this place as I was looking for Salsa places in Oahu on Yelp, and I really wanted to dance at least once while I'm on vacation. They have Salsa on Thursday nights so I walked from my hotel to this place which ended about 15-17 minutes which is not that bad. I had to walk through a sketchy area while following my navigation on my phone. When I left the place, I walked through the Ala Moana Center which I felt safer. $15 cover charge which includes a ticket for a free drink which I used to get a bottle water. Small bottle of water, but still nice. I got there during the middle of the lesson in which I stood back and just watch. It was the super basic steps in which I already know so I didn't want to partake, plus I saw that there was not an uneven number of dudes so there's no need for me to jump in. Haha... I made it a goal for that night that if I danced 5xs then I will be happy to leave as I was not feeling the best. I did dance 5xs, and then I left. I'm glad that I got to salsa danced in Hawaii, but it's definitely not as fun as salsa dancing back home in California. Lol.. Not much people there. Mostly couples who are complete newbs. Lol also the floor is pretty sticky, which is kinda gross. The bathrooms are clean and nice though! read more

Been here a few times with my hubby, and honestly enjoyed ourselves. For the ladies and gents who don't have a partner, there is honestly no need, as the leaders there will be sure to get everyone rotating partners pretty often, which is nice so that you're not stuck with the same person every time and can get a bit of variety. Anywho, the lessons are solid - I'm not new to salsa, but not super experienced either, and I felt like it was great because they let you go to your pace. My only gripes are that the bass can be a bit loud at times, which is a bit uncharacteristic of salsa, but it's not ridiculous though. Enjoyed coming here, I'm sure we'll be back more in the future. read more

I've been coming to Salsamor since it's inception many many years ago, and have followed it through its growth. It has always been, and continues to be, one of my most favorite places to go dance. Really awesome vibe, great people, fun dancing, and all around good times! Cover is only $10 which also includes a drink (don't forget to tip the bartender, even if it's a free drink!) and a lesson at the beginning of the evening! That is so awesome! I really love coming here, not just to dance with the salseros of this beautiful local community, but also with the many visitors and travelers whom we get as well. I second all the excellent reviews Salsamor has received so far. My friend was in town visiting and we planned many things that took us both out of our comfort zone. We came to Salsamor to participate in the salsa (actually salsa, bachata, and merengue) lessons and stayed to dance until after midnight. We had the best time! The instructors are great - giving just enough instruction during the lesson to get you started. Girls...you don't need to bring a partner, there is a good amount of men who will rotate through the lesson with you and dance with you after, if you wish. All of the guys were friendly, polite, encouraging, and not at all creepy. As the night goes on, the dance floor fills with plenty of dancers having a fantastic time. Although there are lots of experienced dancers, I never felt awkward or out of place. (The free drink with the $10 cover may have helped in that respect.) Take it from shy, uncoordinated me: If you're looking to try something new, Salsamor is just the thing. I promise you'll have FUN! read more

My first salsa experience and it was an absolute blast! I learned three different styles~ the merengue, bachata, and the popular salsa. For the first hour (8-9pm), they teach you all the steps & help you get down the basics. Perfect if you're a beginner (like me). They had us switch partners often. I got pro lessons from dancing one-on-one with the instructors, it was so much fun! The beat of Latin music is addictive. I have to do this again! P.S. Thursdays is still my night that I can freely get out to shoot and dance the night away. At first, the move to a new location may have put off a lot of people, mainly the concern for parking availability. There are a lot of free street parking around the area as well as reasonable paid parking. The dance floor was at first wasn't up to par with what Vice had but now that has changed. The floor is cleaner than before and is just as good as when the venue was at Vice. Ambiance is virtually the same as before.....dark....save for the occasional flash pop. Same great Latin dance music spun by DJ Rod and Carlos. Bar staff from Vice has transferred over to this place as well and ready to serve all your favorite drinks. I like the layout of the place, a large rectangle of a dance floor with lounge style seating and tables around the dance floor. You can dance....you can watch. There's even some large open booth areas where you can get away from it all if the music is just a bit too loud. Nice wall spaces and wall pictures depicting various metro areas and skylines. Nice well kept restrooms too. Patronage are a good mix from young to older and all friendly and willing to dance when asked. Lots of new faces each week, many even new to Latin dancing which is always a good thing. The regulars are back as well, it's good to see them. If you are really new to Latin style of dancing, free basic lessons in Merengue, Bachata, and Salsa are taught between 8-9pm. Open social dancing begins at 9 where you can really go all out....with respect to the other dancers of course. Be mindful of other dancers and adjust your dance steps because it can get crowded quickly. The $10 cover charge may seem a lot but admission comes with a drink ticket so now it's extremely reasonable.....and really.... no reason at all to not come out early and stay late! The best place to dance Salsa, Bachata, Merengue on a weekly basis. The ambiance is perfect for dancing, and there are a lot of regulars and ample parking if you get there early. If you come here for a few weeks, you will know most of the people and that's a plus when you are a beginner. If you are new, the free classes 8-9 are a great way to get started. The dance floor gets crowded as the night goes on. There are plenty good dancers that come out to dance. Ladies, if you stand by the dance floor, you will definitely be asked to dance. As for the guys, almost all the women say yes to a dance here, so this is a good place to start practicing what you have learned. The drinks are good, and reasonably priced. The bartender is always friendly. And the DJ has great taste in music and is aware of the crowd (and takes requests). Tried the lessons with Elaine...which were spectacular...She is truly a genuine teacher...However...once the lessons are over and the real music starts...its a pick up bar just like any other...there were a lot of foreign women taking lessons...and once the music started a lot of men looking to give lessons on both dance and lessons in something else...The bar scene hasn't changed much at all even if you don't speak perfect English......lol..there will always be vultures...we had a ton of fun... read more

Thursday was my favorite night to dance Salsa - and still is when Salsamor moved from Vice to Ginza! Same crew, same DJ, same bartenders and security staff. Salsa night sound system is setup for other genre than salsa music. Too much base the place vibrates. Bring earplugs for the high and distorted volume. Music songs get chopped off at the middle and change rhythm to a different genre unexpectedly. Songs don't have a happy ending at all. Music is streamed on and on without a pause or and end to the songs so at least one can thank a dance partner. Selection of music to dance is so high in BPM that does not lend to partner dancing. Floors are sticky but I can overcome a bad floor but not unbalanced music for dancing. Songs that contain a mix of either merengue, salsa, hip pop, and/or reggaeton should be avoided but here is what it is played. They have the dancers going and coming jumping to change the genre in the middle of the song/dance. But if you want to just get drunk and shake your booty then I guess is ok... read more

My friend and I checked this place out for the first time on Thursday and had a blast. The DJ is awesome. The lessons are great and even if you're just beginning you won't feel intimidated. Everyone is friendly. I give the atmosphere, music, dancing and lessons 5 stars....Only complaint is the bar will not give you a cup of water, you have to buy the VOSS in the glass bottle. I like to drink one cocktail then have a glass of water (repeat each time I have a cocktail) so I don't get hungover especially on a Thursday. So I just didn't buy anymore drinks. read more

Nice and cool inside and a safe feeling for a night club. The dance floor is ceramic, and people dance on and off the floor as all the floor is ceramic. Hard leather soles would be ideal. Suede is slower. You cannot turn on rubber soles. Hearing protection is a must, and even with foam plugs, the bass can actually blur your vision if your eyeballs are too close to the subs. Unnecessarily loud. If it was half as loud, it would be loud enough. Admission is $10 and that includes one free drink. The first hour 8PM-9PM is a dance class, so beginners are welcome. The address is Kapiolani, but it is closer to Kona St, and the mauka side of the mall. Don't forget your ear plugs to stay safe. read more

WOW What a AMAZING experience with Salamor, this past Thursday my Zumba Sisters and myself got to check out the club Ginza if you love Latin Nights on a weekday Thursday is the place the go! Cover is $10 the parking is kind of tight there is street parking or upstairs from the night club $5 or across the club $3 but you do need to move the car by midnight, inside the club it has nice big space to dance the night away a lot of flooring, a lot of seats but you don't be sitting down you will be dancing salsa, bachata, cha cha, merengue with the hottest tracks the DJ plays up beat hits that will knock you off your feet. I was in town a couple months ago and this place is OK. Not extraordinary, but basically your only option on Oahu to dance salsa, bachata, merengue, etc. They have a good selection of music, but can feel like a cardio session at times. The fast music is kinda difficult to dance to when their floor is sticky. They seem to coat their floor in some kind of wax. If you take dancing seriously enough to bring dance shoes with suede or leather soles, do yourself a favor and DON'T. Your shoes will get ruined.
