Dinner at Salt 64 was outstanding from start to finish. The service was top-notch, and the food absolutely matched it. The portions were generous without sacrificing quality, and the menu had so many great options it was hard to choose. I had the swordfish steak special served over seafood paella, and it was magnificent--perfectly prepared, incredibly flavorful, and loaded with fresh seafood. Easily one of the highlights of the meal. Salt 64 has an amazing menu, excellent service, and the kind of food that makes you immediately start thinking about what you'll order next time. I had the scallops and they were good. It wasn't spectacular, but fine. Service was super slow. We had a reservation, but still had to wait to be seated. Our meal took 45 minutes to arrive at the table and it was lukewarm when it arrived. Lastly, this place is super noisy. Like, yell across the table to be heard, noisy. We came to Salt 64 during a girls trip to Oak Island. Laura was our server and she was a total delight- happy and attentive. We started with the rockstar wedge salad and crack toast- both were delicious: For entrees, we got the salmon, chicken, and ahi tuna with creamed spinach, collard greens and truffles fries. Portions were huge! What really stood out: ahi tuna, chicken, risotto, and salmon. Truffle fries, collards and creamed spinach were somewhat unremarkable. The highlight for me was the key lime pie, which I got to go because I was stuffed. Espresso martini wins the award for best cocktail of the evening. Decor was classy and welcoming. The service was outstanding but I was not impressed by the food. We came here last year and were underwhelmed by the food. This time around we just had appetizers of an artichokes and the special of flash fried ribs in a Korean bbq sauce. The ribs were tough. I would not order them again. The Malbec , however, was top notch! Some areas not as nice probably to sit in, but we really enjoyed our spot next to the wine room. Parking can be a challenge! Stopped by again, this time on a Monday night and it was packed. Because of the additional dining area we got a table quickly. Our waitress, Tia, was with us quickly and brought waters. She returned shortly to take our bar and appetizer order. Tia also went over the evening specials. Our drinks came in good time with appetizer following soon after. We ordered Fried Green Tomatos and Cracked Toast to start. The Tomatos were well presented and came with cherry tomatoes, corn and a tarter sauce. The toast came smothered in cheese and heavy garlic. Everything taste good. Our main selections of Shrimp and Grits, Fried Flounder w/ Potato Cakes and Chicken and Waffles came out hot The three of us enjoyed our meals. Amazing dinner. Met a friend on the fly so we to sat in the bar but it was lovely! We set around some lovely people who had great recommendations. I can't remember the name of the appetizer we had but it was cheese with olive oil, tomatoes, spices. So good and an epic presentation. Ceasar salad was really good and and had this love parmesan cracker that I broke up and ate with my salad. I had the Osso Buco and it was divine. This was an exceptional evening from start to finish! The day was our 25th wedding anniversary and we were in Oak Island for a week to celebrate. We decided to reserve a table at Salt 64 well in advance to eat there on our actual anniversary. From the moment we walked into Salt 64, which looks rather unassuming from the street, we were awestruck by the beautiful ambiance, comfortable seating, and friendliness of each staff person. The hostess seated us promptly, our server was attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Our meal started with a delicious dirty martini for me and a craft beer for my husband. Because I am a freak for artichokes, I started with the grilled artichokes -- WHATTTT?? They were so yummy that I'm not sure I can order them anywhere else ever again. My husband chose a beet salad for his starter, which was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. We didn't talk much during our appetizers -- too busy enjoying this deliciousness. For our entrees, I chose the 8 oz filet, which was prepared exactly to my preference of medium-rare. The filet was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and plated beautifully with garlic mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the fish-of-the-day, which was flaky, light and flavorful. We both enjoyed every single bite and brought home what we couldn't finish. Not to detract from the appetizers and entrees, but the stars of the show were the carrot cake and key lime pie - two items our hostess and server warned us we should not miss! Oh, My, Gosh!!! These desserts were UNBELIEVABLE!! So beautiful, so delicious and fresh, we were blown away! We had a few bites of each, brought the rest back to our rental house, and did our best to share them with each other the following day. I only wish we had reserved more than one evening there! We were just here for a couple days- but seafood was a must! We both had a glass of wine which was a nice pour and very reasonably priced. I ordered the tuna- it was wonderful but wish I'd asked for a vegetable instead of the potatoes. ( not sure if that was a choice) They are good but too heavy to go w the tuna imo. The lobster bisque was also very very good- enough for 2! Waiter Mark was very helpful! My husband ordered crab fritters - they were also very good! Hush puppies were hush puppies- but the grits were very good... all and all an excellent choice. read more

Located along Main Street in a resort town with very limited parking. They are super busy! If you go, you will find out why!! You yourself will come back over and over again. They do take reservations online. Otherwise you will be waiting (and it's worth every second). There are dining areas, a bar area with high tops, and a 6 seat bar. Had to go on waitlist for bar area. Sat around for 5 minutes and saw that there were 2 stools that came open so jumped in them. Bar area is super small - especially if on end where servers come through. The bartender is extremely busy, but took our orders quickly. Water glasses didn't go empty. He was very attentive and friendly. Seemed as if the air was not working in that area and there was a massive fan circulating some air. They have a lovely craft cocktail menu, as well as a fully stocked bar with all the things. We ordered Paradise (get this) and a Nobody's Fool (skip this- not very good). Anyone can find something on the drink menu here. They even have mocktails. Paradise was surprisingly delicious. We ordered apps instead of a full blown meal. We ordered a side of truffle fries (recommend - even though our order was full of tiny fries - still tasty ), French Onion soup (highly recommend - absolutely delicious), wings (don't leave without ordering them - grilled - it's wizardry), and something called Sweet Spicy - pork belly thing - can't remember name, but will remember the flavor! There wasn't one thing put in front of us that wasn't good. Carter, a very friendly manager stopped by to talk and make sure all was well. Very good customer service. We were stuffed, but were told about the key lime pie being house made. Ordered it to go. There are no words. No notes. Just pure silence once you taste this masterpiece. The creaminess of the key lime filling with the crunchy graham and the perfect meringue - to die for. Do not - I REPEAT - do not leave without ordering a slice or two (even if you have to take it to go). This should be featured on some show or taken down to Key West where it would give many places a run for their money. WOWZER!!! As a matter of fact, even if you can't eat at this amazing place, just stop in and order a piece to go! You too will sing like a canary about this delight. The prices you pay for what you get are beyond reasonable! The portions and quality are just fabulous. Wife and I went there to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted by staff with a nice "Happy Anniversary " note. This was our third year celebrating here. It has never disappointed! Our food was great, our server, Anthony, was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect. We each started with one of their martinis, 4oz pours, we shared a very nice salad,server provided an extra plate. I ordered the lobster bisque, large portion, very creamy and delicious. As entries, my wife had the crab cakes and I had the special of the night, red snapper over a bed of rice and shrimp. Both were excellent. Portions were large enough that we took some home. While on vacation, my wife and I visited Salt64. She had been there before, but I had not. From the moment we arrived for our reservation, we were treated with sincere kindness. The wait for our table was minimal. Once we were seated the service was friendly and attentive. The real winner at Salt is the food. I had the Tuna entree with a side of grits and my wife had the Beet Salad, which is her go-to when available. The angry lobster appetizer was OK. We were disappointed to only have four small tails for the price, but it came out hot and it was just enough to hold us over while we waited on the main course. I was also impressed with the price of the mocktails. Most restaurant these days think that they are worth as much as an alcoholic drink, but they are certainly not. I was pleasantly surprised to pay six dollars for a wonderful handmade concoction with no alcohol. The NA beer selection could have more variety. Do yourself a favor when you're in Oak Island or around that area of North Carolina Carolina. Salt 64 will not disappoint.!! read more

I have had the pleasure of dining at this establishment twice while visiting from South Florida. I cannot say enough good things about the food and service. Friendly and very personable staff from the front door to the high tops and yes, the bar too. The shrimp and grits main course were outstanding. The second go round at the bar with the very witty and pretty Tia as our bartender/server was even better. A monstrous burger with a side of mac and cheese was above delicious. Cooked to perfection by the chef and topped with a generous about of perfect crisp bacon. More visits to this restaurant are definitely warranted when I return to Oak Island. read more

My father in law lives at Holden beach and this was our first time visiting Salt64 on Oak Island for an early dinner date after a long day in the sun, and it absolutely hit the spot. I had seen a few reviews mentioning that the portions didn't match the prices, but I have to disagree. Maybe living outside of DC has skewed my perspective, but I found the price points very fair--especially given the quality of the food and ambiance. The highlights of the meal started right away with the artichoke and mini lobster tail appetizers, both fresh and flavorful. For entrées, we tried the special grouper with Asian slaw, as well as a Mediterranean-inspired shrimp dish with olives, feta, and spinach--both were perfectly balanced and delicious. And then came dessert... holy moly. The bread pudding and key lime pie were so good that we ended up ordering the exact same desserts to go. Drinks were also excellent: we had the espresso martini, the pear/lemon martini, and the passion drink with tequila. I really appreciated how balanced they were--especially the passion drink. I can't stand overly sweet cocktails, and this one was smooth and refreshing (if you like sweeter drinks, you might want to pick something else). One word: PHENOMENAL! This restaurant was truly wonderful and that was the best meal I've had over the last few months for sure. We were there early for our reservation and the host was kind enough to sit us early. The server was great and answered all our questions. The environment is darker which allows for a higher-end atmosphere, but it can get loud in the restaurant during peak hours. We started with the lobster tail appetizer (sorry no photo) and it was very tasty. All of our entrees were delicious and couldn't have imagined them tasting any better.
