I previously made a review on another local place on what I thought was the best pizza in the Southport/Oak Island area. I now need to amend that and say that while it may seem surprising, this place has the best pizza in town. Dough is homemade and hand rolled every evening and the toppings are generous. They're not shy on cheese either. I would rank this as the best pizza in the area if not the county. Service is outstanding, Their own West Coast IPA is killer, and atmosphere is good. Some of the apps, including a basic loaded baked potato are also quite good. Nice to see a brewery have a kitchen...which is not always the case. Will always come back here. read more

If you like a local brewery with a little Harry Potter flare check out solar brewing this place is underestimated. When they first opened their doors, their beers weren't that great but as we are finding out, the beers are much better and their food selection is delicious. Wow! We are so disappointed. We walked in at 7:40 immediately were told kitchen closes at 8. Not a hello. Then we get pizza and it was not terrible but veggies here barely cooked. My husband walked up to get another beer for each of us at 8:30 and they emptied the tap. They close at 9! Wow poorly ran place. I feel for the owner. Let me start by saying my expectations are high. CT may be a small state but we are flush with quality breweries and great pizza. Solar Brewing is still pretty new and worth a try if you are in OKI. The pizza was decent, but if you are a pizza snob, just calibrate expectations. I bought a few of their crowlers blind, but would recommend sampling first. The stout was good but the IPA was a little flat and way too malty for me. The space is nice and definitely needed in the area. I would encourage you to give them a try and support a local business that the island needs to be successful and as they gain experience, their brews will only get better. read more

**This review is for beer only** Solar Brewing is located in Oak Island. I thought that it was neat that they purchased some of the equipment from Check Six Brewing when they closed. Unfortunately I think that this brewery is going to struggle with their current beer menu. My husband ordered a pint of the brown ale and I ordered a beer flight. You get to choose four beers in your flight so I chose the brown ale, new jack's IPA, sunny side ale and sherril's street IPA. I struggled to drink the beer in my flight but my husband thought the brown ale was good. While we were there half of the guests walked out without finishing their beers. Stopped in yday while on vacay. Very attentive, friendly staff/ownership! Basic bar and tables setup. Even though (I found out after the fact) that it wasnt their brew, the blueberry cider was killer. My fam got the whit and a few other Solar brews that they really enjoyed. But but but...the recommended handmade/homemade pesto pinwheels were to die for!! Pillowy crust, fab pesto, and QUALITY cheese (it makes a difference)...so. good. We checked out solar brewing on a Thursday afternoon. We were seated and the staff was very accommodating because there were two kids in our party. I ordered the Prosecco and everyone else ordered different beer options. We got the beer cheese pretzel and it was delicious and plenty big for us to share. We enjoyed the communal games at our table. I do agree with previous posters that it would be nice to have a patio. Especially during the color months and with children. We will be back! read more

This place is really good. You go up to the counter to order after sitting down and looking over the menu. We ordered the pesto pinwheels and they were really good! I had the kitchen sink pizza and wow. Definitely one of my favorite pizzas I've ever had. The green peppers, banana peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, ham and pepperoni all paired together really well. You could also taste each component individually as you ate it. I will have to do an updated Review when we return for food and beer. This time we just sat at the bar for a beer in order to check it out, basically a scouting mission. We used to go to Check Six when it was in operation and I was very pleased to see that the bar and equipment was repurposed here, even the flight boards! The Beer selection was good. SBC gives major pizza parlor vibes and not so much a brewery vibe. I was so excited to hear that a brewery was coming to Oak Island and we have been anxiously awaiting a chance to try it. Since there isn't much of a bar scene at Oak Island, and certainly no other brewery in the area, we had high expectations leading up to this point. We walked in with a group of friends around 9 pm on a Friday night looking for a brewery vibe but what we found was a strangely quiet, brightly lit dining room instead. The seating was like I remember those chairs from the church fellowship hall growing up. The bar was small and there were just a few barstools. No outdoor patio but there are two picnic tables in the parking lot if you want to sit by the busy road. They have a pretty decent beer selection so we ordered some flights. The beer was fine but it feels so odd to just sit and drink beer in that type of environment. I would maybe go back 1 more time to try the food. I think they missed the mark on atmosphere/ambience of a brewery which is so disappointing. I would love to see an outdoor space and more comfortable high top bar seating. It's a pretty cool looking spot, the food was decent, but nothing special on the beers that we tried. We had high hopes for this place! And we will definitely will come back and try it all again, but it just didn't live up to the hype that we personally put on to it. We got the "jalapeno loaded fries", but it was written and sold to us as something kind of different. They were tasty though. Before the food, we went in and sampled a couple of the IPA's, nothing really impressed us. We still ordered a beer, but more or less were just being nice. There were a couple of things that they were out of, and maybe there was good reason why, so we will come back and check em out. My husband and I were discussing the ratings before we left. Food was a solid 4. We had the pretzel with beer cheese soup. We loved the pretzel. The beer cheese soup didn't have a lot of flavor. The pizza was great. Thin crust with lots of cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage, onion, etc. I had the cherry cider. My husband had the ginger ale. Then we tried the honey strawberry fizz mixed with ginger ale. It was really good. I really like they are doing a few 0 ABV drinks for those that don't drink or for kids. It was extremely clean. This pub just opened on Oct. 31, 2022. They have 16 beer/wine taps. Friendly atmosphere. Great staff. Best pizza and wings on the island. Will be adding burgers and hot subs soon. Hot food comes out quickly from the kitchen due to the state of the art conveyor belt driven pizza oven. You have to try the large hot salted pretzel with bacon-cheese sauce! Mostly guess beers on tap for now until the brewery is in full production mode. Guest tabs include Edward Teach, Hi-wire, Sierra Nevada. The two ciders on tap included a flavorful cherry or apple. The cherry is my favorite. The home made ginger ale is very good, via Mike the Brewer. Seating for approx. 60 at a time at tables and bar stools. The large Stainless Steel brewery tanks are visible from the restaurant! Two TVs for viewing and music in the background make this a great venue. Visited this brewery recently and was dismayed to learn they were out of their in-house IPA. After speaking with a friend, it appears they have been out for a few weeks(?). Anyway, they had a local IPA to keep me happy. I ordered a pizza and was pleased to find it very tasty. It took quite a while to get it, but it was worth the wait. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere could use some patina, but I equate that to the newness of the building. Maybe it will warm up as time progresses. read more

Got there as soon as they opened with only one guy working. About five tables came in all at once so I was expecting the worst. He handled it well. Ordered Buffalo wings and a cheese pizza. Food: pesto pinwheels were excellent, highly recommend Beer: not great. We tried 6 different kinds and all but the PB Porter had a sour taste (pb was actually sweet). Guys down the bar from us thought the same. I did specifically hear the bartender encourage sampling as they are apparently a new brewery and I would advise the same so you don't have to drink a whole pint of something you may not like. The best part about this place is that they food shaped food. When people who spent the entire day at the beach, come in hungry, and don't eat 3/4s of the pizza you know it's bad. Now for the services - if they wanted us there any less you'd think the servers and bar tenders were independently wealthy and the business did not need patrons to come in and spend money. Our server and bartender went extra and when we would ask for refills (of corse we the customers were evil and wrong for wanting refills) they would make faces at us. read more
