I open the door and I am met with a wonderful, welcoming smile. Wrong location? Nope. No appointment and no worry. The government " greeter " working happily with no paycheck started this surprisingly positive experience. Two pretty stale security people were tough to break smile even with a thank. The modern waiting area was almost empty so a no appointment connect was easy thanks to the smiling welcome/greeter. 15 minutes and on my way to an almost pristine interview booth. Another smile and a beautiful Halloween attired SS staff member politely greeted me. Maybe 7 or 8 minutes later... done...factually verified and on my way. What a positive...satisfying...experience.

Conveniently located in the heart of Salt Lake City, across from City Hall, the SS office is located on an upper floor of the large 80s style office building. A security checkpoint is located at the fifth floor office lobby's entrance and after being screened by security upon entering, one is directed to a kiosk where you are prompted to enter which department you need to deal with for your particular need. Once your data entered, a printed ticket is issued. Then, the wait begins, as you scan the digital monitors on the front wall over and over in hope that your number will be posted. Patience is required as it takes quite a while to get called to one of the windows behind which the human SS agents are located. My wait to be for my number to come up took about 1 1/2 hours, in a room that seemed to be about 1/3 full. The time it takes to be called is the real downside of visiting this office. Finally, when I approached the window of the agent who was to assist me, trying to create a human touch to our interaction, I commented about the nice view from her desk area. She agreed, took my paperwork and efficiently copied and entered the information as required. Her efficiency was commendable. I'm sure this is a thankless work environment and many situations are fraught with personal, life impacting issues that aren't easily solved. Luckily for me, everything in my case was straight forward and easily dealt with. After just a few minutes, my tenure in bureaucratic hell was over and I was happily on my way back to reality. Five stars for my agent's help, 1 star for having to wait in the queue for nearly two hours.

Once you open the door, you will find what you need. The lady at the counter is helpful, and she was efficient. Unreal. ______________________________________________________________ I had a very disappointing experiences with the Salt Lake City Police Department's non-emergency dispatch while attempting to file a police report. During my first call, the dispatcher who answered was extremely rude. I asked to speak with someone else as she was obviously having a bad day, she said no one else was available. The next mornining, after completing the report by phone, I received an email stating that I also needed to submit an online report. I followed the instructions and completed the online form. However, after submitting it, the confirmation page instructed me to call the non-emergency number again. When I called a second time, a different dispatcher answered, and unfortunately, she was just as rude and dismissive as the first person. I explained that I was following the instructions of the confirmation page. Dispatcher: But, why are you calling?!? I know the site told you to call you [yes, she really said that] But WHY are you calling?!? I'm confused. - Sounding bothered as well from the moment she picked up the call. I was simply trying to follow the department's instructions and properly report a theft, yet both interactions made me feel as though I was inconveniencing the staff by asking for assistance. People contacting the non-emergency line are often already dealing with stressful or upsetting circumstances. They should be treated with basic courtesy, patience, and professionalism--especially when they are making every effort to follow the reporting process correctly. My experiences with both dispatchers lacked all three.

This is one of (the main?) operations office for Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation. So the building ain't much to look at and you really wouldn't have much need to go here except to reserve a park or park pavilion. That's exactly what brought me here this week. I had viewed the SLCo P&R website which is actually quite robust when it comes to information about different parks, so I knew what I wanted and I called to reserve. The kind woman on the other end of the phone held my reservation and told me I'd need to get there withing a couple days to pay for the reservation to confirm it. So I found my way to the old building, parked out front (there are just a couple of spaces for the general public before you get to an open gate where all the maintenance trucks park) and went in. It was pretty evident that as far as park reservations go, it's a one-woman show. She found my reservation and I paid. In true governmental fashion, it's an 18-step process of handwritten receipts, computer logging, printer shuffling, stapling, and old photocopies. This woman is a pro, but it's not exactly a "duck in and drop off a check" kind of ordeal. Still, it was done right and it only took 10 minutes or so. Hardly an inconvenience. SLCo P&R has facilities all over the valley. From canyon picnic sites to parks, pools, pavilions, and everything in between. I'm a proponent of the parks system so paying a few bucks for a reservation is well worth the amenities you're provided!

Buyer Beware! Do not allow this post office to tell you that you can simply refuse a shipment that…read moreyou did not order or want. When you send it back this way, and the company on the other end does not want to pay for the shipping to get that product back, their "policy" it to throw it in the trash!! And you will be out the product and your money. I went to the post office to speak with the Manager About training his representatives better. He said they did it 100% correctly and that he also would have sent the package back in the same way. But in the same sentence, he said that they have an agreement and it is their policy that when that happens, they just trashed the item even though your name is clearly on the package and you told them it was worth $90.. So I called the postmaster General in Las Vegas and he backed them up 100% and said they did everything correctly. Just how hard would it have been for someone to say we can send it back that way however this could happen to you. I mean you got a job with the government agency and you can't speak that sentence? They were the ones who told me to send it back that way, knowing that they have this stinky policy that would allow them to throw your package in the garbage and you just lose your hundred dollar bill. I just want everyone out there to know that USPS Has this hideous policy and they stand behind it 100%!!! so never listen to the representative behind the counter and do not ever allow them to talk you into refusing the package!! All they had to do was insure it, or pay for the shipping to return it so that I would get the package back when they it or just tell me about this heinous SECRET policy that they have and then I could make an informed decision about how I wanted to mail it back. And then to be so unsympathetic, and so nonchalant that they would tell me, yes, we have the authority to trash. Your property is absurd! No wonder they are going bankrupt!!! And using our tax dollars to do it! If I could've given zero stars, I would have.
