I came with a big party of 14 and I had a great time for it being my first visit. We arrived around 11:30am and made it onto the river around 12:30pm. It wasn't too busy so finding a parking spot was fast. We unloaded, and walked over the the check in area to purchase tickets. The cost of the ticket included the shuttle ride to and from the drop off / pickup area. We floated for 2.5 hours and it was sooo much fun. The water was cold but the sun was hot. For the most part we relaxed and in some areas we struggled as the currents were strong. We had paddles on hand so that helped a lot. We saw a few horses roaming around. We took sheets to wrap around our tubes as they tend to get really hot. We also wore water shoes as the rocks hurt really bad when stepped on. We took rope to tie our tubes together and that was great. So much fun. Life jackets are definitely recommneded if you dont know how to swim! read more

I'm not from around the area, and the staff were so kind and helpful making sure I felt assured with where I was going and what I was doing. my only gripe is the price for the cooler tube compared to the regular tube is kinda wild. It would have been nice to have a second smaller tube for things and drinks, but when it's almost the same price as a tube pass itself, it didn't make sense to rent one. A couple recommendations would be to bring a sheet of some kind to out over the tube if you're renting one as they get hot VERY quickly. I also recommend having a second tube as there is barely enough room for just you on the ones you can rent. I've floated the Salt River a few times this summer, and it's been enjoyable. We've seen wild horses each time. The long float takes about 5.5 hours, and the short float takes about 3 hours. If the water levels are low though, both floats can be very rocky and shallow. Bring a paddle to help navigate the current and avoid slamming into rocks and the embankment. Bring plenty of sunscreen to protect yourself from the summer sun. The bus to and from the main parking lot does not have AC, but it's a short ride with the windows down both ways. If you take the bus and rent tubes, it'll cost you $28 per person. If you add a tube to hold a cooler, that's an additional $20. While shuttle prices are slightly cheaper on weekdays, the ticket that includes the shuttle and a tube is the same price every day of the week. It's also cheaper to pay in person, because online you will pay tax. The tradeoff is that the in-person lines can get quite long, especially on the weekends. If you bring two cars and park one at each end of the long float and bring your own tubes/gear, you'll only pay $8 per car to park. There are two primary points where people stop along the long float, one of which is about halfway through the float under a bridge for shade and the other is about 20 minutes from the end of the float where people cliff jump and hang on the beach. Friendly staff when you check in and friendly shuttle drivers. We went on a weekday so it was not as busy as the weekend. The shuttle buses take you to the halfway point or the top, it depends on how long you want to be on the river. I recommend you bring paddles to help steer on the river, sunscreen, a cooler to keep your drinks cool, and water to keep you hydrated. We didn't get to enjoy this due to weather conditions. Which is completely understandable, but there was no phone call, no email, no message after waiting on hold, that it was closed. When we drove the hour and a half there under clear skies to an empty parking lot with closed up shop, quite annoying. I get if you close due to weather but let the people know that paid ahead and planned a trip there when thats the case. What better way to beat the AZ heat than a day cruising down the lake! Check in was a breeze. I recommend purchasing tickets online. Hop on a shuttle bus to your stop and get ready for an adventurous ride! Opted out of tying our tubes together and just held on by hooking our feet under each other's tubes. But we did tie the cooler tube. This worked out great! Tips: 1. Try your best to stay in the middle for a better flow down the river and to avoid getting stuck in the bushes. 2. Went on 6/9 with my friends visiting from out of town. I go every year before it gets scarily hot out, and HEADS UP we are just about nearing that point in the summer! Monday was not very busy at all which made the rental, bus ride, and parking experience a lot more pleasant (note: there is PLENTY of parking even on busy weekend days!) The cooler tube fits a 16qt/15L Igloo Playmate cooler perfectly with some extra room on top for any other odds and ends you're carrying down the river. Check in was easy. We each got our tube, got on the bus for a 10-15 minute trip to site the river. We floated for 2 1/2 hours, which is a perfect amount of time, and exited at the #4 site. It was clearly marked where we were supposed to exit the river. We caught the bus and went back to the main staging area and returned our tubes. The water was refreshing. Recommendations: bring the obvious sunscreen, water, hat, water shoes. But also wrap your tube in a sheet. Tie the 2 opposite corners together in a knot and do it again with the other 2 corners. Lived here in Apache junction 30 years ago with my Dad and I remember floating down salt river with him. I wanted to have one last summer get away with the family before school starts back up and so I said let's go for a 6 hour drive and check it out It was better than anything I remember. Everyone was so helpful and the float was amazing. I was hoping we would get to see some of the wild horses. We must have seen 5 different groups along the river. Definitely a must try to keep cool during the Arizona summer and if you're trying to do touristy stuff. This was so fun! The buses take you to all the spots you need. They have a concession stand plenty of tubes to float with if you don't have your own and they also have cooler tubes to put your cooler in. We brought our own stuff and just paid for bus pass. There was plenty of parking as well and we went on a busy Sunday morning and still had plenty of spots. The bus drivers and attendants at this place were amazing at answering our questions and were so kind! They explained things well for people floating the first time. Salt River Tubing is definitely a right of passage in the valley and I have experienced it multiple times through different phases of my life, for a variety of occasions and visitors, and it is always a blast. As it starts heating up, or during holidays, it does get packed, so plan accordingly, be safe, smart and all the things. That be said there are a variety of ways to enjoy the river and Salt River Tubing does a great job of offering options that work for everybody. You can bring your own tube or rent a tube, but definitely bring a old sheet if you rent, as they are all black tire tubes, and can get extremely hot, even in the water in the AZ sun - It makes it much more comfortable. If you bring your own tube, most will do, I've used relatively cheap ones, but they are at risk of popping more, so you can also find heavier duty options. They offer a shuttle service from the location where you can get your tubes, which also includes free parking and where you can get your shuttle tickets that take you to the starting point, as well as a return shuttle ticket from either ending points. You can also have a secondary care at the ending point if you don't want to take the shuttle, but unless you have to take multiple cars, the shuttle is super easy, great value and worth it. Onto some other miscellaneous points: - It's also worth it to get an extra tube for group ice chests, that way you're not having to carry, or toss or drink warm bevvies. As well as bringing some rope to connect your groups tubes, waterproof bags or any other basics things for storing (Definitely recommend water shoes/sandals). If your stuff falls off, you're pretty much SOL. ALSO, carry out what you carry in/Clean up after yourself and leave it better than you found it! - The route has a few exit points, which SRT will show you, but don't miss your exit, because you'll be stuck a lot longer or have to back track by foot. If you do the whole route, expect around 4ish hours. The flow can get moving fast. - For the most part you are on the river the entire time, sometimes you can get to the shore at a few spots, but not always. You may also get a chance to see wild horses or other wild animals which is pretty cool. - You can buy both shuttle tickets and a tube, one shuttle ticket, both shuttle tickets and they now offer additional services such as a private shuttle to and from home, group pricing etc. Overall, it's a great time, affordable activity, wonderful way to see a bit of Arizona's landscape and awesome way to beat the heat. I had a booking that I wasn't able to make due to a family emergency and reached out well in advance to request a cancellation or at least a credit for next season. Unfortunately, they refused to offer any flexibility or refund, even under those circumstances. I understand policies are in place for a reason, but a little understanding and compassion go a long way--especially when customers have legitimate reasons for not being able to attend. My son and I did the 4-hour saltwater river tubing tour. It was a little long for just the two of us, but I can see this being perfect for a big group of friends or family. We packed a lunch and enjoyed it while floating, which was a really fun touch. The scenery along the river was absolutely amazing, with beautiful views all around. The river itself has kind of a party vibe, but nothing over the top -- it still felt relaxing and enjoyable. The cool water was a great escape from the hot Arizona sun. The upper part of the float had some small rapids that added a little excitement without being too intense. Overall, it was a refreshing and memorable way to spend the day. do NOT listen to the staff if they say there is 6 check points. GET OFF AT CHECK POINT 4!!!! they told us to go to checkpoint 6 which doesn't even exist anymore. They also told us they'd be waiting for us with the bus AT CHECKPOINT 6. we got stranded in the river called for help and they told us we had to keep going down the river and the girl over the phone said " have fun " instead of being helpful. they DO NOT have people to help if you get stranded or lost apparently. we were on the river from 9am to5pm all because they told us to keep going until checkpoint 6 so we passed the only exit. Business rating 5/5: We ordered our tube rental and bucket ahead of time (online) so it made check-in extremely fast and easy. We did see a big line in for those that were renting/ paying on site. They have a very organized system, staff is friendly, and buses have a/c. Experience in the river 4/5: Overall- it's something I recommend everyone doing at least once in your life. For me, I am giving it a 4 because throughout our journey- there were a couple of shallow spots on the river which meant our tubes got stuck in rocks. I had to get off, and move our tubes back into the current. During those shallow areas- our buttocks were slammed against those rocks and the experience became painful. A small area had really strong current, and it was scary for a few seconds. Tips: Take towels/ blankets to put on top of your tubes. Those tubes get extremely hot! Wetting a towel/blanket and placing on top- will save you from a lot of pain. You will see wild horses along the way. They are harmless, and they mind their own business. Please do not disturb them. Remember that you're the visitor in their home. Wear tons of sunscreen! The heat here in AZ is no joke. Bring lots of water Have tons of fun! read more

Others are respectful on the water, clean and hardly any floating trash. Good family fun on a budget and great scenic views, wild horses, cliffs to jump from. Always a good time but their website could have been more precise on how kids can attend. We paid over $250 to tube and upon arrival were told we couldn't do the entire trip but half. When booking online this was not mentioned, only that smaller kids need life vests, which we bought on site so there'd be no issues about brand or anything... This was the first time we've brought kids, and all the times there's been no notice or signs posted that they can only do a half trip. Great fun on the river. What they won't tell you... your "all day" pass is only if you arrive back before 2pm. We were not told, after asking multiple questions, that if we didn't arrive back at the tube rental building BEFORE 2pm we wouldn't not be able to get back on a bus, not even to get off at #2 (1 hour in). We missed it by 15 minutes, we were not allowed to tube to pick up spot #2. We had our ride ready to get us at 5:40 but instead waited on the side of the building for 45 minutes for our ride to get us.
