If you're visiting Stockholm and want a break from the city without going too far, Fjäderholmarna…read moreis the answer. Just a 25-minute ferry ride from the city center, and suddenly you're in the middle of serene nature, surrounded by rocky shorelines, pine trees, and calm Baltic waters. The island is small and walkable, which makes it perfect for a half-day trip. There's something really charming about wandering the trails, watching boats glide past, and stopping for fika or a drink along the water. You'll find cozy cafés, glassblowing and craft shops, and even a little chocolate factory. It's tourist-friendly without feeling overly commercial. Swimming spots are tucked around the edges if you're up for a dip, and there are plenty of sun-warmed rocks to lounge on if you're not. It gets busy in the summer, but still feels peaceful -- like a local secret hiding in plain sight. Tip: Come hungry. The restaurants (especially Fjäderholmarnas Brygga) are excellent, and enjoying a cold drink by the water is basically a Swedish summer ritual. Whether you want to explore, relax, or just eat well with a view, Fjäderholmarna is totally worth the trip.

Once on the island you can sunbathe if the weather permits or hike. There are also a couple restaurants, cafes and specialty shops to keep you busy. It's expensive to get here SEK 145, but if you purchase the Stockholm Pass it'll save aggravation since it's included. Pleasant retreat from the city and recommended if visiting Stockholm.

Unfortunately, for most of the meal, the food itself didn't fully live up to the reputation. We ordered a pretty broad range of dishes. The herring was a bit of a miss for us and felt messy rather than memorable. The girls had the meatballs and a mushroom dumpling dish, but neither one really enjoyed their meal. Both dishes leaned very salty, to the point where it took away from the overall experience. I ordered the venison, which was fine, but not particularly special. It was one of those dishes that was technically okay, but didn't make me want to keep eating. I honestly didn't finish it. Mia ordered the cod, which looked good, but again, it didn't feel like anything spectacular or especially memorable. What completely changed the tone of the experience was the service. Toward the end of the meal, our server noticed that I hadn't eaten much. Without making a big deal out of it and without me asking for anything, he brought over a steak with potatoes and fries. That dish was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More importantly, the gesture itself was incredibly thoughtful. That kind of hospitality is rare. He didn't have to do it. I wasn't complaining, and I wasn't expecting anything. I was prepared to leave the meal as-is. But the fact that he noticed and cared enough to make the experience better says a lot about the service and the professionalism of the staff. So while the original food we ordered was hit-or-miss, the service elevated the evening in a major way. The meal itself may not have been excellent across the board, but the hospitality was. For me, this ends up being a four-star experience: not because every dish landed, but because the staff turned what could have been a disappointing dinner into something memorable.

Once they were open, it took a long time between us being given menus to finally getting our food- 50 minutes. They should've given us our side while we were waiting for the board. We ordered a side of salami and Swedish cheese and the hairy pig board. I enjoyed the side, but the board not so much. The board consisted of wild boar sausage with broche bun, wild boar taco, peppercorn fries, and wild boar lasagna. The board was quite heavy and salty. I didn't have enough stomach space to even try the taco. I did enjoy the fries, but it's not enough for me to want to return.

This place is tucked below street level and is very intimate and downright cozy with its low beam wood ceiling, wood tables in every cranny it can fit to accommodate guests, and a tiny little bar. You can find this place outside by the wooden sign with the boar on it, then simply peer down into the low window and if you see a hairy pig nomming on a sausage, congratulations! You're in the right place. We stopped in not long before closing time and that was probably the only reason we were able to get a much coveted table. The barkeep was nice and let us put in a quick order while also getting us drinks. Unfortunately for me, there were not very many gluten free tapa options on the menu, but there were a few naturally gf. The salami and sausages were thought to have gluten so I went with the smoked shell on shrimp, a cheese dip, and some salad with olives. I wasn't crazy about the smoked shrimp but the olives and cheese were good. The husband enjoyed a sausage in bun which he said was great. Overall we liked the vibe and I think if you can eat the locally sourced meats like my husband it's probably a pretty solid place. If you're gf or allergy you'll probably still be hungry at the end of the meal like I was.
