Please see my edit at the end - it is important caveat to all this! I hate to say this, because I like the guy - Brian was awesome. But after a few days to reflect - I can't justify letting this happen to others or at least sharing my story - which bums me out a lot. It was not a great experience. I think I would classify it as a bad experience. It was Thursday August 10th - me, my brother, and our four kids. Let me be clear - I could care less if we caught a Striped Bass - it's fishing, it happens, butthe half ass way the trip was done is tough to swallow. Ultimately it was a bad experience, and I am not happy with the cost /or tip for what we got. In fact - I wish I could take the money back - i'd only pay for the gas - why I gave a tip is beyond me and it was not warranted at all. The captain (Brian) was at least 20 -25 minutes late (on a 8:30 departure), after delaying an hour the night before (from original 7:30 to 8:30 - which was fine), and returned back to the harbor before our time was up. My perspective is he gave little to no effort. He was not clear on the plan, what to do or how to do it. Bait was hard to come by - yes, but I personally helped him alot unhook the fish - again - in a vacuum, that was no big deal. After getting some bait we drifted for about an hour - next to another boat who was having luck. Out of 2 hours, we had lines in the water maybe 30 minutes max. Eventually he just said - not our day, lets go. Needless to say, we caught ZERO (0) fish, my brother did lose one. But Brian gave no effort, didn't seem to care one bit and was going through the motions. Brian took calls to deal with his broken truck and getting his boat out of water - while the kids lines crossed and we drifted. I have taken over 10 fishing charters in my life and am far from an ocean expert, but I do own a boat and fish Lake Champlain in VT often - so I know a little. Without getting into details, his methods and attempt was pathetic and compared to the other guys I hired in Maine - wrong. I have never in my life felt the need to write an online review for anything ever. This experience was so bad that I feel like I have to for others and my own sanity. Reading other reviews it's like day / Night. So take from this what you will - if asked - I'd probably take a chance with him again. I know it sounds crazy, but I like the guy and I am a "glass half full" kinda person. But damn. Edit 09/01/23 - After this review I emailed Brian - said essentially same thing as I did here, asked for a partial refund and he gave me a FULL refund. As I started, he is a good dude, very responsive - I think he just had a bad day - In fact, I will give him another try in 2024. Great experience-I took my 12 year old son out for an 8:15 charter. Great experience. Bryan had us on fish within 5 minutes of the first cast and both he and his first-mate kept tight lines for my son the entire time out. Professional, knowledgable, and ran a tight ship. I took my 7 yo son on a two hour, 6:00am trip with Bryan. We are novice fisherman, especially when it comes to the stripers we were out there catching. Bryan was patient and instructive and he was engaging with my son. He was very invested in making sure we had a good experience and caught fish. It was exactly the experience we wanted. Not as advertised. I wish I had read reviews before I booked. Captain Bryan arrived a few minutes before our scheduled time of 8am, so we waited until he went to get the boat. The boat had bait from previous day marinating in the well. What was most disappointing was the lack of enthusiasm or interest in interacting with our two children whom the fishing trip was for. Not the most outgoing or engaging captain, who was on the phone a great amount of the time. This trip was a birthday gift for our 7 year old and while we did our best to make it fun I was still left feeling that it was not worth our time and money. read more

I don't understand the other reviews. This charter was first class! Every one of us caught a fish. The captain was patient, knowledgeable, and made every effort to maximize our experience (I.e., minimal time spent trolling for bait). He is the quintessential fisherman. The boat was immaculate. We've been out two years in a row with Bryan and both times, we've not only caught some great Stripers (see attached pics!), but the experience has been wonderful! We go out as a family. Bryan is extremely attentive to us while we're fishing and makes every effort to make sure that we're where the fish are. He's been more than prepared for both of our trips and clearly is pretty skilled on how and where to fish. We've gone on larger charter boats for cod and other fish, but the experience we get on these trips is so much more enjoyable and personal. Simply can't recommend him enough! Can't understand the bad reviews- we just don't see how anyone could have had a bad experience. Also, the communication when we booked was great both times. Great fishing, good conversation, just a pleasure- thanks, Bryan! We'll be back next year! Plan on booking a few days ahead, though, or, at least we found it necessary in the middle of July! read more

A fantastic fishing experience! Captain Bryan was very quick to respond to my emails and phone calls. He followed up with me the evening before our trip. He was on time when we arrived at 6 AM. Captain Bryan knows his stuff when It comes to fishing. The beginning of June is a hard time to find Stripers in the cold Maine waters but he knew just where the fish may be biting and sure enough we immediately started catching some 18" to 22" Stripers. Not that big but what I would expect at this time of year. Either way my two Sons and I had a great time and will not soon forget. read more

Just a terrible experience. The captain was 15 minutes late, hungover (at 5pm!), and returned back to the harbor before our time was up. This is not a normal charter fishing boat with a captain and mate to help out. It's just some guy with very minimal knowledge or skills on a small boat. He gave little to no effort. Out of 2 hours, we had lines in the water maybe 15-20 minutes max. Needless to say, we caught ZERO (0) fish. I have taken over 30 fishing charters in my life and am far from an expert, but without getting into details, his methods were pathetic and ones I've never seen before (in a bad way). We had a great time with captain Bryan. He showed us some great sights and put our family on some good fish. Very professional and was dedicated to teaching us about the area and keeping us on as much action as possible. My son even put a pretty hefty tangle in some of the tackle and he was very patient with us as we worked it out. Had a great time and will definitely be back out with him next year. read more
