Salty Sheep yarn shop has been my small business shopping heaven. The owner, Peggy, and her assistant, Roxanne, are fabulous. They let anyone and everyone come in and sit and knit, which is a great time to take in all the yarn candy in the shop. They are so friendly they helped my husband find a great birthday gift, a yarn hat kit, and he was proud to hand it to me. There is an eclectic group of people that come and knit, and some that come in, asking a plethora of questions, all answered btw, and buy their fibers there. In Swansboro does not mean far from beachers, tourists, and lovers of a short distance adventure from the beach. AND well worth the time to be with Peggy and Roxanne, and everyone that comes in. And don't check the faces, those knitters are knitting one of the wonderful yarns and pattern that both Peggy and Roxanne have helped them find to your liking. I unexpectedly found this wonderful yarn shop while on vacation in Emerald Isle. They have a beautiful selection of yarns, including brands that are hard to find like Spincycle and Farmer's Daughter. The employees were friendly and very helpful! They answered questions when needed, but also gave me space to browse. I highly recommend stopping by, especially if you accidentally left all your knitting supplies at home, like I did. read more

I, unfortunately for the owner, got there 20 minutes before closing, but had a wonderful conversation with the shopkeeper and a few clients. Yes, it is a LONG way from home, but well worth the trip. I absolutely love this shop. I was here about two weeks ago, and a friend of mine went for the first time last week. The owner is so friendly and makes time for everyone who walks in the door! I went on Local Yarn Store day last year, and even though she was slammed, the owner (who was also working the register in addition to helping customers select yarns) took the time to wind each skein I had purchased! What an absolutely lovely yarn shop in Swansboro!!!!! Staff was ever so helpful; and shop owner so very friendly!!!! The shop has all sorts of beautiful samples hung tastefully about the entire shop. There are so many varieties of yarn -- I could've easily stayed a few hours there. Nice centre table for social knitting. How lucky the knitters of Swansboro are to have such a lovely shop in their community. Decent parking and easy in/out of the parking lot. read more

I had the opportunity to visit this shop and just had the most marvelous time. My daughter and granddaughter were with me and there were plenty of samples around the store for them to look at. We ended up with a beautiful cotton to make a market bag and a nice wool blend to make an infinity scarf. She also had the cutest stitch markers to bring back as gifts for friends. Peggy was very helpful in getting me patterns and and finding just the right yarn. She went out of her way to make sure I found what I wanted.
