It is a safe environment with plenty of people out walking, plus it's dog friendly. Beautiful scenery and homes along the trail and not to mention you're surrounded by water and the sound of the stream will keep you going. I did see a few people out riding bikes as well. I'm a biker myself, but didn't think that the trail was large enough for large groups on bikes. But then again, are most trails ever?? If you're in the area please do plan to check it out and go for a stroll. Parking is limited, but also available down the street.

Being honest, we just kinda stumbled upon the Cayce/West Columbia River Walk. My Gf and I have…read morevisited Columbia a handful of times and we just had not been on this side of town. After getting a quick snack to take along with us, we visited the river walk and then came back the next day to walk it again! This river walk allows you to get multiple great shots of the Congaree River. Considering this is a paved/board walk trail, it really is friendly to all who would take a stroll, from all fitness levels, ages, and wheels (bikes, strollers or wheelchairs), you have a lot to see and do here. Although we only walked maybe a mile of the trail, which sandwiches itself between the river and a nearby neighborhood, it was getting late in the evening and we didn't decide to walk the 8 miles of this walk. Near the start of the trail there is a lovely amphitheater and although there is no music...there is a small band at the top of the amphitheater in the form of an artistic display. This artwork is really cool and you should get a photo with them! Also near the amphitheater are bathrooms and parking. The parking lot directly in front of the trail start is somewhat small, but we always either found a spot or found someone coming out of a spot when we came in. If I lived in Columbia, I'd likely be at the Riverwalk several times a week. As it stands, if you're close to here for any reason and you have an hour, check the west Columbia river walk out!

Sesquicentennial state park is beautiful! They have 4 trails, including one trail (Sandhills trail)…read morethat loops around the lake, which makes for some great photos during sunrise or sunset. They have a little visitor center when you can buy a bunch of souvenirs, snacks, and can get a stamp in your SC state parks passport. If this review was solely on the trails and beauty, it would be a 5/5 but unfortunately the campsite brings it down a bit. The campsite is on the larger side, and has 3 bathhouses to accommodate the area (close to you). You are given the basics like a picnic table & fire ring. Sites 1-29 have 20/30/50 amps, and 36-84 have 20/30 amp electric hookups. Sites 1-9 are full service (also have sewer). These sites do not give you a lot of privacy, and it seems like they built as many sites as they could in a confined area instead of spreading the sites out a bit to give the camper a bit more privacy. The bathhouses are clean, but are very dated and are in desperate need of a renovation. If you are not a camper, you will be charged an entrance fee of $6 if you are an adult, $3.75 for seniors (65+), or $3.50 for children (6-15). Overall, a 5/5 for the beauty of the park and amenities outside of the campsite, but 2/5 for the campsite itself.

The Blythewood area lacks decent parks, but Doko is a very nice place with a very nice nature…read moretrail, nice restrooms, an excellent playground, a cafe in the rebuilt train station, an amphitheater for concerts, lots of open grass fields, a picturesque pond and a venue for special events. The annual July 4th event is the biggest in the area and is great for families. The park also features a farmer's market one day a week, and other events featuring food trucks and vendors. There is ample parking, picnic tables and a historic town hall. One event that is fun for the kids is the painted rock hunt. People have painted rocks and have scattered them throughout the area kids can pick them up as they see them, take pictures of them, and hide them for others to find. This is a great park!

I absolutely love the West Columbia Riverwalk. I've been coming here for years, sometimes to run,…read moresometimes to take a leisurely stroll, walk my dog, clear my head, converse with friends, etc. No matter what time of year you go, it's absolutely beautiful, but I think it's at its peak during the spring months, such as March and April. While you obviously get a great view of the Congaree River, there's also an abundance of flora and fauna for you to look at, and it's fun to try and spot the turtles perched up on the rocks on a sunny day. There's also a lot of really cool pieces of artwork painted onto the bridge-beams surrounding the river, as well as an assortment of picnic tables and viewing benches for you to sit down and relax. All-in-all, I love the Riverwalk, and I'll be coming back for years to come.

Finlay Park offers a GREAT playground with slides, rope ladders, climbing limbs, splash pad, and turf slide. Plenty of room to relax or log a few steps. There is a beautiful water fountain, grotto and pond where they offer sailboat rentals . There is also 2 miles of sidewalk and pathways for walking or taking advantage of the roller skate rentals they offer. Not to mention pickleball courts, ping pong, soccer goals, and fitness court. A round of applause to the City of Columbia for this amazing recreational and public space.

Lake Murray Dam walkway, travel down Lake Murray Blvd will run into it…read more I come here to run occasionally as it is scenic, breezy, straight, and runners frequent. I just started parking on the Irmo side, parking to left of guard house is free. On a weekend I can see this lot filling up quickly it's not a lot of spaces free. I do think this side is more stretching friendly than the Lexington side. Speaking of Lexington side I always parked there with larger overflow lot but there was construction there last time that closed half the spaces. The walkway across dam is wide enough for about three people walking side by side but for runners it can get hard to pass the more populated. I've seen roller skaters out there, strollers, dog walkers although there is no grass only concrete so pick up the doo. The mileage is about 3.4 miles across and back; there isn't any man made shade except the short barrier wall between lake and walkway. If you come during the day will be in full sun so recommend morning or evening for shadier walks/runs. It's an easy run across, is windy certain spots so make sure hat is tight or you will lose it. Worth visiting.

The lake views are gorgeous! There's a small pier people fish from. Although windy, some people were picnicking in a couple spots. Geese and butterflies greeted us as we strolled by the water for a bit. Was a lovely, relaxing morning in local nature before the storm rolled in.
