I feel obligated to post a review as a word of caution for future massage-goers. I won't disclose my masseur's name, though. This was my first visit to Salvation, and it was a "meh" experience. While the interior of the place was nice, almost every aspect of the massage was poor. My masseur didn't seem to know what sort of massage I paid for, did not come equipped with the aromatherapy oils, and opened the door (twice) while I was undressing without first knocking. Moreover, the massage itself felt very disorganized (and I've had plenty for context), and it was extremely elbow and forearm heavy. For the most part it verged on uncomfortable rather than pleasant. And I did not get the full time I paid for. This was puzzling to me as a first-time customer because you'd think they would set me up with an experienced masseur. Unfortunately, first impressions matter and I will not go back and would advise others not to try. read more

The front desk staff is very helpful and sweet. The inside smells so good. They have a no shoes policy which I love. You can really get comfy before your treatment. However, I have an issue with their membership policies and overall lack of front-desk proficiency. I have been going to SW for more than six months (so has my husband), and unfortunately, both therapists I have been working with have left the practice. This has led to difficulty scheduling and, ultimately, my inability to get an appointment. It doesn't seem like SW cares about that as I now have $400 in credits that will expire in 30 days (as they have told me they would bill me once more because I gave a "6-month" commitment, which I have no idea what that even is). Yes, that's correct - a local, wellness-focused business is not only NOT willing to help you understand how their membership program works, but they will keep charging your credit card, even though you've been unable to use existing credits. I did NOT agree to this - but they just don't care. NOTE: I was upset during the call (because the business has refused to respond to me via email), and I dropped an F-bomb, and before I could apologize, the lady hung up on me. That does not give you the right to ignore your customers and be as unhelpful as possible. Grow up - adults sometimes curse; get over it. Honestly - no wonder those therapists left; this place is a nightmare. I have emailed the business AGAIN - let's see if they respond or keep acting in the same indifferent manner they have been. I got married in the thick of COVID (Sept 2020) and for a wedding gift my best friend got us a gift certificate for a couples massage here. Well I have a serious medical condition (cancer) and so while we were in the middle of a serious global pandemic it did not dawn on me that it would be safe for me to get a massage. Just recently I started feeling more comfortable so I dug out my gift cart. To my surprise I found out it had a one year expiration date. I have gotten many gift certificates during COVID and every place has been very flexible understanding it's a global pandemic. So I give them a call and the person who answered told me to send an email. So I send an email and the manager responds a day to so later that there's nothing they can do outside of talking to the owner. So I respond and graciously ask if she could speak with the owner and explained my situation. They already have my best friends money so it's not like they don't have their money and she paid full price. I hear nothing back from the manager for weeks. Then I email again the manager asking if she heard back from the owner and again NOTHING weeks later. Now I take ownership that there was an expiration date and that I did not look, but to be honest it did not cross my mind that during a global pandemic there would not be understanding and flexibility and that I would be forced to use a gift certificate in the middle of the global pandemic and told "oh well".... even when I personally emailed and explained my medical condition. I have lived in Jersey City for 15 years and love supporting small businesses and that my Bf got this for my wedding gift made me happy, but now this is beyond disappointing. Between the lack of follow through, understanding, and knowing they have her money so they are NOT missing out from their end. read more

I've been here a few times now and have received great massages. Every therapist is different- some have been better than others- but that's subjective. I am very specific with my massages and tend to like a lot of pressure. Each therapist is very knowledgeable about the human anatomy and they explain things really well. I'm someone who's lived with chronic pain for a really long time, and as a result, I've experienced more massages than I'm totally comfortable doing the math (or the money) on. I think that should count for something. I really do know a great massage when I find it. I'm not willing to waste my limited time or budget on bullshit.
