Overpriced. $150 for suit pants that I waited over a month for and the length wasn't even correct. He told me to come back in an hour and when I went back to pick up, he showed me his hand and said "your not gonna take care me ?" I was caught off guard since I already paid and wasn't sure what to say so I said nothing and just gave him an extra $10. I have been coming to this shop forever! I noticed some complaints below associated with pricing. Seems to me some people are just hoping to get some work done for free by a nice older couple. In my opinion, if you go to one of the best restaurants with a great chef, you're going to pay for a great meal. That's what Sal is. Tailoring from scratch, means deconstructing and reconstructing to fit your body- Sal and his wife ALWAYS ensure each tailoring job starts with a fitting AND THEN a final fitting happens before the alternations are put in place- another reason why I've been coming to him for years! You can't walk into a 5 star restaurant and expect McDonald's prices. The same goes for tailoring. 10/10 on all prom dress fittings, suit alterations, and a true life-saver with quick repairs during the week. I recommend to everyone I know! read more

Nice older couple but $75 to shorten the sleeves on a jacket?? Ridiculous. I dropped off on 12/12/22 and picked up today 4/3/23 because the first three times I stopped by they couldn't find my suit. Never again sorry to say. read more

Had been a long time customer of Sal's. The last few alterations were not up to his past work. This last time when I questionned him he proceeded to get indignant, put plastic over the garment and told us to go find another tailor. Basically kicked us out of his shop. So we've found another tailor that does wonderful work and is even less expensive. read more

I had one pair of suit pants to alter...he told me a week, and it was not ready. He didn't even apologize. And the price...$60 for one pair of pants, no jacket. Well above what most charge in this area. And I would have probably gone back, but the work? An inch short, above my ankles, the waist has an inch give, and the crotch is tight. I've been going to Sal for years... I see other reviews talk about the cost. His price may be a couple of bucks more but his work is worth the extra buck. He really know what he is doing, and has had a suit ready for me in just a couple of hours when I needed it once. Him and his wife are the sweetest, I love them!! read more

As someone who is short and not handy with a sewing machine, I bring everything to Sal to be shortened - pants, dresses, coats. He's also fixed seams for me, as well as taken in various items. I'm the third generation in my family that has gone to Sal. While he may be a little more pricey than other places, I know that it will be done correctly, and he can usually get things back to me within the week. read more

Agree with other reviews -- The tailoring on my dress was done well, but all other aspects of this customer experience lacked. All I had received was a rude & defensive attitude when I asked for additional alterations to ensure that the dress looked perfect, considering it was for an important formal event. Additionally, he was unable to explain when asked why hemming the dress would cost over $100. In the end, an upsetting experience. read more

*** BEWARE OF THIS SHOP, THIS STORY ILLUSTRATES THE INTEGRITY THAT THIS SHOP OPERATES WITH*** I work in a metal free environment and dropped off pants to have a metal zipper replaced for a plastic/metal free zipper. I brought in a plastic zipper and he told me the zipper was too short to use. Further, he told me that he had a plastic zipper and would put that zipper in my pants. I picked them up and brought them to work to test the zipper that he put in. There was METAL in the zipper. I brought the pants back to the shop & told him that the zipper he put in also has metal in it. He tells me that he cannot do anything and that it will cost more money to replace the zipper again EVEN THOUGH HE TOLD ME HIS ZIPPER WAS METAL FREE. I tell him that I would purchase a plastic zipper at MY OWN COST & bring it back to the shop as long as there would be no additional cost. He tells me that he cant do it for free and their would be an additional charge. In the end, this shop STOLE $25 from me. read more

Agree with the other reviews- he is the only tailor in town that I have been able to find and he knows that. His work is good but not for the price. He did an okay job on a dress that I needed within a week. It was done on time but he is very pricey. I brought 4 items and when I asked for a break down at pick up he became annoyed. I told him I felt the cost was a little high and then he became extremely insulted. He actually told me that I can go somewhere else next time. read more

I was surprised to read the other 2 reviews. I have been a customer of Sal for almost 25 years, both when I lived in Pompton Lakes and after. I drive 15 miles now so that I can continue to use him. He and his wife have always been very nice, and his work is top notch. In all those years, he was late only once, and was very apologetic. His costs are only slightly higher than my local cleaners, who also do alternations. read more

Visited this artisan tailor for the first time a couple of days ago. I needed some alterations made to a fairly expensive Simms fishing shirt. Sal and his wife Nelly are a delightful couple, and they no doubt know what they are doing. The work they did for me was of the highest quality and they did not take any shortcuts. They have been in business there for 38 years. BRAVO! If you need an expert tailor, this place is for you! read more

Very pricey! Alterations were 3 times higher than the rest of my bridal party for my dress. $85 vs. $30; I feel taken advantage of! I didn't need it quickly, there was no rush; otherwise I could see maybe this higher price. Wish I had shopped around a little more or waited for the rest of my bridal party to see where they were getting theirs done. read more
