They sell you on all the amenities like pool and spa, but fail to tell you that If you work a job like most adults you will never be able to use the pool or spa without screaming kids or groups of teens playing grab ass, the no diving or horseplay is never enforced. Think they set aside time for hardworking, paying adults to swim in peace, nope think again Mon-Fri 12pm to 7pm is family time and when they run their second business of paid swim lessons. That's right you pay your dues so they can charge others extra for swim lessons during peak after work hours. So as a working person you can not swim laps or avoid screaming kids jumping in the spa. Oh, but if you want to come in at the crack of dawn or right at closing time you can swim laps, pretty hard to do if you work a regular job. They also do a horrible job keeping kids off the machines which will be your only option since the pool is off limits while you are there. And if it's volleyball season they rent out the racquetball courts to high school teams to practice. Avoid at all costs, and it's an expensive one, if you want to workout or relax in peace as this is a afterschool hangout and they are all on their phones sitting on machines, even kids on phones in the spa watching videos and no one ever comes thru to police anybody.

Lots of kids and younger guys here and teen class for the teens that are kind of in between the adult and the kid learning mindset. Professor here as a fifth-degree black belt Brazilian as it gets. An absolute master of the craft. You won't be getting anything water down here. Prices are very comparable from what I have seen online for other places in the area. It's been an absolutely amazing experience for me and my kids. As a 36 year-old that started JiuJitsu with zero athletic background I can honestly say it was a bit intimidating to get on the Matt for the first time. Both of my kids had done taekwondo and receive black belts and worked for years at it. That was my turn on the second path to join in with them. The fun thing is on Saturday. There is a family class where you and any age kids can all be in the same class together and it really does give a unique experience. Right now, the school is growing their numbers up again at the new location and is a great time to start because you're gonna get some smaller class sizes for the new students and really emphasize the learning mindset . After a ton of googling and researching (with not any options that I was thrilled with) I finally found Checkmat Portland. Being a new gym, it took some searching to discover, but I'm so glad I didn't settle. After coming across them, I ended up checking out their IG: Checkmatportland and I had a chance to speak directly with the owner, Professor Junior. Professor Junior was very nice, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable in the sport. Immediately after speaking with him, I knew this was the gym to choose for my stay. During my visit, I attended 3 classes, all of which were were great. I walked away with new moves, and really good training tips from each session. I was very impressed with his passion for teaching and how quickly he was able to identify areas in my personal game that I could improve upon. I am forever grateful for Elite Triangle Fitness for giving me a safe space to workout with people in my community. I have now been going to Elite for almost 2 years and have loved every moment there! All the trainers are professional, encouraging and knowledgeable and the class structure is perfect for those looking for a fun workout. I fell in love with kickboxing and now I can't imagine my life where I'm not taking out my frustrations out on a bag. Just recently, I started personal training with Shain and honestly it feels like therapy in the best way! He's a great coach and VERY knowledgeable about the human body and it's capabilities.
