First of all, double check their hours of operation - those posted here are incorrect. Moreover, beware - this location is closed on Tuesdays. I went in an hour before their closing time on a Monday and they were already removing away some produce. I am not sure if it is a common practice but I certainly didn't appreciate this. Next, I didn't see any hand sanitising station at the entrance and inside employees didn't wear their masks properly either - VERY BAD!!! The pile with mandarins was mostly of bruised fruits you would not want to have and better ones were left in the area hardly reachable. Why they don't move those to be available for the customers is beyond me. In general, the fruits and veggies were of poor quality. If not for coming across quince and the cashier who was quite nice, I'd have given just one star. Would I come back in the near future? Very unlikely. Would I recommend the place? Mention Sami Fruits to people and they might remember that awful place in Marché Jean-Talon that sold bargain basement fruits and vegetables that were one step away from the dumpster. By leaving the Market area, the city should give them an award for doing more to revitalize it than anyone else. Since they've opened in the St-Michel area, the quality is still very hit and miss, although the presentation is amazing. The layout, bright lights and huge variety is unmatched. The vegetables might be the best bet , especially if you're going to be cooking it right away but fruits always look better than they taste and spoil very fast. The selection of juices gives this place an extra star and is worth the detour if in the area just for this reason alone. The variety and prices are amazing and I never ever leave without getting a glass of carrot juice (only $2.50). I recently tried the ginger and lemon juice and it was very strong, but it might be the healthiest thing i did all day. The dried fruit and nuts section is also so-so, the pistachios and cashews are decent, but raisins and dried apricots were a letdown last time. read more

Being an urbanite, I'm assaulted by highway robbery prices for fruits and veggies in downtown grocery stores. $3.50/lb for nectarines--what!?! That's cray. Happily, Sami Fruits is along the way on my weekend activities. They sell crisp red delicious apples for $0.99/lb. This Sami Fruits this one has a lot more parking spots than the one in LaSalle with its limited parking spaces and constant crowd. The nuts and dried fruit section accepts debit so that's helpful! Their prices for nuts can't be beat compared with Costco and Bulk Barn. This store forbids sampling. So I bought some roasted cashews that were a little weird tasting. The Iranian pistachios are better tasting than the US ones. Remember, they're closed on Tuesdays!! read more

A lot of employees are not wearing masks or they are wearing them below their nose, which highly disappointed me. Physical distancing is non-existent here, with employees walking close to you and chat closely with one another, often without proper mask usage. I also was surprised they're still selling loose dried fruit and nuts in the bulk section, which could easily be contaminated, seeing as both staff and customers often ignore mask use and physical distancing. I usually love to go here as it's the cheapest produce you'll find in Montréal and the quality is usually pretty good, especially in high season. However, because of their poor compliance with Covid regulations, I will likely not go back until the virus has diminished/gone. I do not recommend this place during this time, especially during Covid. Perhaps Sami Fruits will follow guidelines now there's $1,000 fines imposed? I shall keep my fingers crossed. read more

Massive cash and carry fruit and veg warehouse that is open to the public. Also attached is Poissonnnerie Sami (however the seafood selection is much smaller). As far as fruit and veg go this place could be one of the cheapest places by a mile, maybe ten in Montreal. Pineapples for $1.99? Bananas for 39 cents a pound? No Toto....we are not in 1984 we are at Sami fruits. Selection is pretty bountiful. They also have a selection of freshly squeezed fruit juices. Also located within another corner is a large nut section. Too keep this massive display of fruit and veg fresh the building was cold like a meat locker. Those who tend to get chilly quicker may not like this but on a warm day it was actually refreshing. Selection of vegetables was not crazy diverse. If you want Asian vegetables head across the parking lot to Kim Phat. Here it's pretty much the basics. I'm curious to see how their pricing is in the dead of January when we are flooded with California and Florida fruit and produce. read more
