Stock up on everything you get cash back and when the end of the year comes all my cash back pays for another year membership. The cons sometimes the fruit is molded and the lines are definitely too long. Understaffed at times. But if your a bulk shopper Im any category food, bedding, dog food, books, kids apparel, wine, drinks, coffee , computer, electronics, jewelry this is a one stop shop. read more

Sam's as a store is good. This Sam's location isn't. One star for experience. Not staffed adequately to handle the traffic. I understand this is a problem in general for retail stores, but limit your customers, reduce hours, anything to make the experience better. Lines for checkout, returns, etc. are terrible. Inventory isn't stocked, organized or replenished. They sell some brand names, but most of the products are private labeled under Member's Mark. It's hit or miss with what you find here. I recently signed up for Sam's with the $45/45 promotion: I paid $45 for my membership and got $45 off in-store so it was basically free! Great deal. I tried to get my physical membership card at the Novi location last week and they were out of cards, so I dropped by here today in the hopes of getting one... alas, they too were out of cards. The membership services employee told me to check back next week. Meanwhile, they printed my membership # off for me on a slip of paper and I also have the app to use. I have used it 2x for gas now, for the Scan & Go, and it's worked out nicely. Speaking of which: last week I got gas at 7pm on a Friday (do NOT recommend, haha - I only needed 1/4 tank and it took 30 mins...) but today (also a Fri.) I went around 430pm and it was an easy 5-minute wait. After, I went into the store, and ended up getting their stroopwafel ice cream sandwiches (so good; I've purchased before) and a $7 T-shirt... I bought one in blue last week so I picked up the same shirt but in light purple today. I'm willing to bet this location gets crazy busy on weekends but I've heard Costco MH does too. It was pretty busy today and it was only like 430pm. I also think this is maybe an older location because the Novi location is set up differently, but don't quote me on that. SCAAAAAARY!!!! NOBODY ENFORCES THE CDC GUIDELINES IN THIS STORE. I came in and just shocked and abhorred by what I saw. Customers walking around with their noses hanging out of their masks potentially infecting my indoor space area. Some staff members even have their masks under their chinni-chin-chin as well. DISGUSTING!!! No one enforcing the 6 feet rule as well, even though there's stickers on the floor,,, people with American flag masks still come up within my 6 feet of separation. I know the employees see it. None cares to even tell them to please "Maintain Social Distancing." I took a snap at the Yelp Page where it says Social Distancing enforced. Circled it in red so you can see. NOTHING BUT FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. My anxiety it going through the roof waiting in line to get my membership. I would not prefer to shop here. If you have family members who are at VERY HIGH RISK of dying from covid, please have some sense to save them and not shop here. God said I would go to hell if I lied. So here's the honest truth. My elderly mother drove over there to cancel her membership, had to wait in a long line, and when she got to the front of the line, the girl at the service desk told her she had to cancel online or over the phone. No reason was given why this was the case. She then drove home and got online, where it told her she could [also] cancel at the service desk. Sat in her car shouting at someone until another able bodied person came out of Sam's club and got into the car. This is at Sam's Club. Handicapped spaces were routinely occupied but able bodied people AND the mobile shopping carts occupied by obese people and/or lazy, unruly children. We were hoping the Rotisserie Chicken at the club is better than at Walmart. We are at the point to just give up. The Rotisserie chicken seasoning is bare-bare minimum just enough to claim seasoned. At one time, the marinade was excellent. Regardless of the seasoning, it penetrated the meat, distinct, and not only on the skin. No longer. I went with a friend that had a membership and he prefers this place over Costco, probably since he's had it so much long. I think these big warehouse stores are great for one-off appliance items but for small families or DINKs the products tend to be too big for 2 peeps. I don't like to overbuy and especially buy items that could take years and maybe even a decade to use up. I will say that the quality of food and other grocery items here aren't as good as the competitors down the street, which is much of the reason I haven't been able to rationalize a membership here. It's good for gas, TVs, electronics, small and large appliances for the house. It's just as chaotic and busy in the parking lot and inside the warehouse store too as Costco or any other warehouse store like it. I will say that I did buy my smart 55" Vizio for a great bargain deal there. Or rather I went with my friend and he bought it since it's his membership and I paid him back. This Sam's Club is a very large location with a lot of items to choose from in various different departments. Just prepare to wait during peak hours of shopping because it's busy. We come here from time to time to stock up on our bulk items (meat from time to time, paper products, juice, other dairy, frozen food, or alcohol). It's nice because you're guided to start one way and follow that way to the back of the store. Unfortunately, some people don't follow those directions but at least the majority of people do. There are so many different things that you can buy here! Electronics, optical needs, medicine, dry goods, produce, alcohol, clothing, dairy, refrigerated goods, frozen goods, bakery goods and many more things. You can definitely rack up a bill here but it's all things that you'll need and things you may not remember that you need. Definitely missing the free samples that they used to give out but they'll bring it back sometime in the future hopefully. One thing to keep in mind here, is to keep your head up inside or outside the store. People are in a hurry or not paying attention it seems, more frequently than other stores I've been to. I've been hit by a cart a few times because someone is on their phone and not looking ahead of them. read more

They totally rocked my daughter's birthday cake and cupcakes! I was so impressed that the name was printed onto the cake because I thought they were going to add the message in piping. The cake was a big size for being the smallest size available! We were eating on that cake for a week! The buttercream and whipping frosting were both yummy! I thought that my description wasn't that great, but the people in the bakery executed exactly what I had in mind. They were very kind and made it so easy to order! I am a fan of this location but a few things to warn others about. Their location is a prime spot off of John R because of this it is always busy, so you might have to park a bit farther away but that is not the stores fault. They do have a huge parking lot which is nice. Aisles are always well stocked and the cashiers are friendly. Weekends can be a madhouse because of the customers that wait around the sample tables like they have never eaten before. I admit I will take a sample if something looks good, but last time I went there I saw a guy take 6 of the same sample OMG. They have some great private labels spirits and I recommend the spiced rum and vodka. Thumbs up !!! read more

I am at the line for more than half hour .. 2 cashiers are open and self check out has 5 open and 2 not functioning!! No management care or know how to take care of the problem. Some employees are standing doing nothing but chat with each other No body seem to care about the frustrating people standing in the line or the customers time. I had a Bad experience at Sam's club located on John R Madison Heights,, I purchased AirPod and they don't have a sign says OUT IOF STOCK I waited more than 20 mins to pay the AirPods because you have to pay first then the cashier should call someone to give you the item but she didn't do that , she was rude to me when i told her i wanna purchase an AirPods she told me that i need to wait when she said next person. I didn't say anything to her i just waited until she's ready to help me . She didn't call anyone if that item that i am about to pay is available and bring it to the register to give it to me . When i am done paying she gives me the receipt and told me to give that receipt to the person so she can give me the item thats how i found out it was out of stock , in the first place they should have the sign OUT OF STOCK by the AirPods display and the cashier should follow the process so the customer doesn't have to wait another 20 mins in the service desk to return the item I don't even have only the receipt. I will never ever recommend that Sam's club to anyone . I rather switch to Costco. read more

Terrible terrible terrible tire service. Bought new tires, they started working on my vehicle 45 minutes after start time, No other vehicles were there, of course the new kid could not use a 4 point lift, and breaks my rocker panel. Using a 4 pointe lift is just behind the amount of skill it takes to put air in tires. Buy the way still 8pounds under. Sams paid for the rocker panel but felt my time of getting quotes for their employees blunder was only worth a 20$ gas card (gas station is closed) so overall a crap store for purchasing tires. read more

This tire and auto center damaged my vehicle while giving me an easy tire replacement. Their excuse? I had a donut on it - so the car scraped against the lift because it was too low. (It's a Chevy Cruze) In the process of this they tore off my mud flap and dented my fender. The mechanic who made the mistake did admit fault and told me what happened. However, when I asked if he could fix it he responded with "Oh you have a crazy uncle that could fix it it something." When I do not have the parts or experience. It took 2 phone calls and 2 walk ins to get someone to help me make a claim. I went and got an estimate for $1090. Took a month but I did get a check in the mail for that amount. Still a pain to go through and fix. I do not recommend. read more

My bowels begin to tighten and my heart starts to race anytime I have to come to this hiccup in Sam Walton's philosophy on customer service and value for your dollar. It is just that bad for me. I have yet to ever find the parking lot clean and not littered with shopping cards that refuse to be wrangled into the cart corral There has never been a time when the door greeter has really ever greeted me. I suppose with all the clicking of the number counter in their hand and the shouting of store gossip across the hanger sized entrance/exit doors to the receipt checker, how would there even be time to. Aside from the generally advanced-aged customers driving their shopping carts exactly the way that they drive their cars and randomly bump into things, namely me, I've never heard the words "excuse me" after bumping me. Absent shopping in some random estate sale at a derelict trailer park so I know that 'yes indeed life can get worse', I'd never get to the the rotting of jarred food as in the picture posted here of it. Samples of food you say is what allows you to overlook minor issues. Generally I would agree with your quip, but alas, the samples here are usually cold or undercooked. And if that is just not enough to aid in your utopian desire to believe with all your plaque-filled heart, just ask one of those subpar food sample pushers a question. Go ahead, any question. Unlike the popular anti-bully video campaign that perpetrates a bold-assed lie of "It Gets Better"; just as we all hope Detroit Councilman Cushingberry will do sooner rather than later, the checkout ain't no party without rum and weed. The cashier had scanned one more than what I've bought even though I told her how many I got. When I called the Sam's Club about it, he told me that they have to check the video to see what happened. When I got there , there was not any customer service desk at all. I've been pickled from being given wrong information like go line up and talk to a cashier and then cashier told me to go to see a manager who told me to see a cashier at first then helped me out. The producer guy was keep throwing cucumbers around when I was selecting for one. I guess they do not care whether they get damaged or not. I guess the managers are not doing their job educating workers how to handle merchandises and help and behave front of customers. I've been going to this Sam's Club for over 8 years now and have watched it go down hill big time. I was there today picking up a prescription. BTW the Pharmacy is great. I stopped in the cafe to get a slice of pizza and a pop. Only one guy was working the cafe and it was busy. There was crap all over the floor, it was slippery and the garbage was overflowing! I walked up to a girl working the front end and asked if someone could go and clean it up and she said to me oh when he catches up he can get it. Are you kidding me?!! There were 5 girls standing around talking and laughing with a male employee. One of them couldn't go and help that guy in the cafe?!!! Also the other morning only one girl was working the exit door checking peoples receipts. She had a long line and people were just walking out. She was sooo upset. I don't know who is managing this store but they need to either do something about this or be fired! Everyone should worked together and help where it's needed. read more

This is the slowest and most outdated Sam's I've been to. The employees are scarce, the layout is dysfunctional and they don't have self-checkout--so the lines are always long. Plus, I've gotten food poisoning from the frozen food section (storing/temperature issue?). Either way, hard pass on anything, but gas. read more

One star may be a bit much, but I really do think customer service means a lot in retail. Yes, we were there maybe an hour and a half before close, but we're pretty easy and try to get in and out. My husband was given a membership through a previous employer, along with coupons when we signed up. We signed up with the paper that had the membership info and coupons. We picked up what we needed. Their sales are fine. I honestly feel like you're just better off going to Costco if you want the true wholesale experience. When we were checking out, we presented our coupons to the cashier, but they weren't ringing in. He said he would give us a slip to take to the customer service desk to get the discounts and cash out there, no problem. Once we get to customer service, the supervisor looked more than ready to leave. When we told her our issue, she said that our coupons are active after 72 hours (we weren't told that the 40 mins earlier when we signed up with her right there). We asked why weren't told, she ignored our question and just stood and stared at us. Regardless, we just paid to get out of there and never return. read more

There are about 10 self checkout registers. I believe there was one helper? I was behind a guy and his wife and these people had no clue how to operate the machine nor did they know how to insert their credit card. I was behind them and losing my mind. Lines were long. They kept staring at the machine and that was it. Didn't ask for help and help wasn't coming. The helper/rep was talking to two other reps. They were busy taking about everything except helping this guy and his wife. I wanted out ASAP. I had enough. I even tried flagging the rep because the couple didn't. They seemed like they didn't care if customers stayed in line. It doesn't seem to me why anyone would want to hang out at a Sam's club register. Call for help. Reps look for people in need for help or people that are stuck at a register. The registers don't have a help button so I had to walk allllll the way to the other side of the 10 registers to get help for this guy. What happened to customer service... oh that's right there is no customer service because now we have to service ourselves via self checkout and via app. This will never happen again because I downloaded the app for self checkout. I have a confession to make to Yelp: Madison Heights is the first Sam's Club I have ever been to. I fail to see the allure. It feels like a Wal-Mart supercentre in almost every respect: grey, stark, boxy, and oddly lit by very bright fluorescent lights. I appreciated the stark visibility as I navigated through the aisles on a mission to find maxi dresses, on the whispered recommendation of a very stylish West Bloomfield coworker. She must be going to another Sam's Club because the store failed me on two accounts. One, no fabulous maxi dresses, and two, no samples to speak of on a Saturday at noon. As a long-time Costco member, I have certain standards for warehouse shopping. Wide aisles, lots of checkout lanes, familiar brands (like Kirkland) that give a major bang for my hard-earned buck. Costco is my secret weapon for small appliances, food containers, seasonal items, luggage, and gardening goods. Did Sam's Club measure up to its chief rival for my heart? I like that Sam's Club posts item markers above the aisles (frozen goods, furniture, small appliances). Their prices are nothing to crow about. I was also concerned many of the frozen food and refrigerated brands were, at a glance, foreign to me -- and I regularly shop in two countries, and worked for the largest food company in the world for several years, so that's not a good sign. Other items reflect the problem I have with Wally World in general: knock off, low quality, or just don't feel or look good. Prepackaged Miracle-Gro potting soil won't vary too much between one and the other, but the hose I picked up had a vertical crack along the side (instant leak) and the plastic connector looked cheap and unstable. I wasn't too sure about a few other gardening items either. For staples like shampoo and conditioner, I imagine you'd be fine. Parking in Sam's Club is dubious at best, a huge roller rink of misery. I approached from the back route towards Meijer after misjudging the mile road (oops), sneaking past a huge queue of cars eager to do their weekend shopping. Park far back to avoid lane jockeys and lurkers who will pounce that one choice spot when your back is turned. Location means spill over onto John R and 12 Mile, especially around the gas station. The attendant didn't harass me for a membership card as I went in to browse, and I ended up not buying a day pass. I'm a committed Costco member, especially because of their generous employment benefits, but I wanted to give Sam's Club a fair shake. This is a pretty tidy store with a decent array of stock, but not quite what I was looking for. read more

I have loved every Sam's Club I've ever shopped at--until this one. Every single time I go in there the lines are 4-5 people long and no one is opening more lines and I inevitably get stuck behind someone who doesn't speak English or has three items that all require manager price changes or a big cartful with six separate transactions. Last week, it took a couple 25 minutes to ring up three items with all their issues. Ugh. But today took the cake. I had bought a camera online at samsclub.com and straight out of the box it had a huge scratch on the LCD screen. I could NOT live with that, so I took it back (first making sure the instructions allowed me to return online purchases in-store). It was a Saturday. I was told that since I paid with a Visa, they couldn't call [whoever they needed to call] to process the return. Ooookay, somewhat plausible reason, but still a pain. So I went back today and first they tell me that I have to take it to Photo. I went to Photo and there was a sign saying "Back at 12:30." Um, no, I'm not waiting 25 minutes, so back to Customer Service. Where it was like they had never ever returned anything purchased online. No one knew what to do and they had to get other people involved. She asked where the memory card was. I say that camera doesn't come with one. No, the one listed here. Oh, you mean the other item on the order? I'm KEEPING that. Okay. So they finally get it worked out and show me my return amount MINUS shipping and handling. Ohhhhh no. I said "The item was damaged, I was told I would also get the s/h back." The girl goes off to check. Nope, she tells me the box wasn't damaged. I said "But the ITEM was damaged." She checks again [with another employee] and the answer is still no. You got it--they were refusing to refund my shipping because the product BOX wasn't damaged, even though the actual ITEM was. The girl who was helping me was very nice, but the other woman she was asking was showing attitude (I could see it from where I was standing), like "Who does she think she is?" type of thing. WTF? Seriously? I was ready to ask for my membership fees back. But I asked to talk to a manager. She came over and I repeated my story - that there was a SCRATCH on the screen, the item was damaged, and I should get ALL my money back. You could tell she wasn't buying it, either, and basically told me (implied) that anything you buy online you never get refunded shipping when you return it. WHAT?! But then she agreed to give me a gift card, since they couldn't actually process the refund (due to it being a Visa) and they couldn't do it online [for whatever reason]. I tried to have a reasonable chit-chat type conversation with the manager to get clarification on their policies and you could tell she didn't want to be dealing with me and she thought I was scamming them. I should have just ate the $10 shipping and asked for my $40 membership dues back...I would have been $30 ahead. Just another reason I am NOT renewing my membership. read more
