As full disclosure I have a long term membership in Costco and to lesser extent Sam's clubs. These clubs are the gold standard for discount clubs and when I compare BJ's to these clubs it really just doesn't compare favorably in my opinion. Costs of the same items I shop for are definately less at the other two clubs where Costco offers a larger and definately nicer selection of more premium products and organic goods in my opinion. The prices at BJ's are definately for the most part better when compared to other brick and mortar stores selling similar products but not when compared to Costco's or Sam's. The other item of note is that both of these chains have a store very close to this BJ's which means you can pick the chain of your choice where distance is not an issue. Having said that you will find stuff BJ's carries that the other stores dont (same for Costco and Sam's) and this could be enough to sway you one way or the other. But for me though I think I will be sticking with the other two memberships and mooch of my Brothers BJ's membership when I want something from that chain (: read more

We were somewhat excited to join the wholesale club. After two weeks we are disappointed we spent the promotion $15 to join. First, to get anything with any kind of sale, you need to have the BJ's app in front of you. They will advertise remarkable sales but if you don't have the app in front of you or when you go through checkout, you are not getting any sale prices. Of course, the app requires you give up all your information so it can be sold later. They advertised a $1 off on a gallon of gas for new members. After three attempts to do so, and dealing with a crabby guy at the window, who made it obvious he didn't want to be there, we are giving up on BJ's. We will just chock up $15 initial fee as a cheap learning lesson and go back to COSTCO who quite obviously has their crap together. And btw, we never got the $1 off a gallon as promised. recently joined BJ's Wholesale through a promotional offer -- I think it was around $10 or $20 -- and honestly, it's one of the best decisions I've made. I used to be a Sam's Club member, but I got pretty frustrated with how often they were out of the things I regularly buy. On top of that, their whole cash rewards situation started feeling like a hassle. If you wanted to redeem your cash, you had to go in, stand in line, and could only use it in certain ways -- not even for gas, which seemed ridiculous. BJ's, on the other hand, has been a breath of fresh air. I'm a single guy who lives alone, so buying in bulk works great for me -- and BJ's makes it even better. One of the coolest features is being able to check out using their app. You scan everything, pay on your phone, and then just show your receipt at the door. No long lines, no stress -- it's amazing. Their gas prices are right on par with Sam's and Costco, and the in-store prices are basically the same penny for penny. But BJ's wins big for me with their customer experience and extra conveniences. I especially love that they have a real deli counter. The quality is great, and it's such a nice touch. I love BJ's they have everything from gas to food. At a great price the staff are nice people. Nice big store with great prices. Sometimes I order online and have everything delivered to my home. Sometime I pull up for pick up and everything I'm placed in my vehicle. When I do go in to shop the store is always clean. I really have no complaints about BJ's . I have the top membership which cost a little more. But you can get a basic membership for 20 to 25 dollars for a years pass and it's worth it. read more

Got a Groupon Coupon for $15. The low, low gas alone would make up for the membership fee in a month or two, and I already go to the cheapest gas in the area. Am saving .17 a gallon! On a whim I had gone in to ask if I could walk around, It doesn't have the stricter rules that Costco does about entering. I walked around asking customers what experience and how it compared to Walmart and Aldi's. The main difference is that BJs is W-A-Y closer and BJs is aimed at bulk wholesale, which is fine. BJs also has much wider hours, too. I went home, found the coupon, and became a member. VERY happy with this choice. read more

still no receipt paper almost every time I go. Is it really that hard to replace? May not be a big deal to most people but it's annoying. Also didn't fill the windshield fluid reservoir so that wiper thing is useless. A minimal amount of effort would go a long way. read more

Very helpful and friendly staff. Good prices of food and other housewares. It is very similar to a Sam's Club or Costco, but I think it seems less chaotic inside. This big attractiion is the exceptionally low gas prices. The lines seem long, but move quickly and there are plenty of pumps. Plus they have long hoses so no worries about pulling up on the wrong side of the pump. They will reach. I have a long drive to work every day and this has really helped with my gas expenses.... plus their rotisserie chicken rivals Costco's. read more

We decided to check out this store. Took a browse before committing. We like that they sell smaller packs of items here. The other selling point is they accept Amex, where Costco doesn't. Also offers gas here. Basic membership is $55, the business membership is more, but is only for businesses that will resell products and are tax exempt. The annual membership auto renewals, unless it's disabled. It's nice to not be stuck buying such bulk items for the house. We can keep our other membership for our business stuff then. read more

I did some shopping at Bj's today i had a few items in my cart. I want six bags of 40qt garden soil. Ask the cashier can someone bring me 6 bags a manager by the name of I Amir he stayed he can he put the 6 bags in my cart? I say yes, I won't be able to push it.He said he wasn't gonna push it. Am going back and forward with him about the soil.I am a elder lady i cannot push the cart with six bags in it. Last year I purchased 8 bags of potting soil.A young man name Jacob put them on a flat back and I brought to the door try to give him a tip for his help.He wouldn't take it .Told him I appreciate his help. EBS might not be impressed since he was the Costco god, be I see why my half sister and step mother love this place. Smaller than the Costco I have been, it is cheaper to join and have the same assortment of things just not as many items in each categories. I found items which I use and needed, but being a widow, most things are just to large to use up quickly. But if you have a family, you will find some good deals. I found that I could get thru the store in just over an hour. That is even doubling back to grab a few things that I had coupons from their hand out. Food stand was more limited than Costco, but prefect size to grab a snack. I will be back a few times a year for shopping but hope to stop for gas when I can. read more

I'm preliminarily giving this place 4 out of 5 stars. My boyfriend and I stopped by here tonight to see if I wanted to join it, and you can't beat their current deals... I paid $55 for the year but got two coupon books plus a $35 BJs gift card, so essentially I paid $20 for a year's membership. They're also offering a $110 membership with a $70 gift card. Gas today was $2.19/gallon (compare to: $2.49 at local gas stations) and I live 15 minutes away, so I'll be coming back to fill up, for sure. We walked around the warehouse before I decided to join and it's comparable to other Costco and Sam's Club locations that I've been to. They had a ton of samples out tonight too which was nice. If the line to sign up is long, check out the kiosks by the far wall, under Greeting Cards - that's where they sent us to tonight. Apparently you can have two people per membership, so my boyfriend was able to be added to mine; he lives close by to the Taylor location. Overall, looking forward to exploring this location more, now that I'm a member. They have a snack shop with various food for $1, too, including soft pretzels, Icees, Dearborn hot dogs, and even water bottles for 25 cents. read more

Ok I have been a BJ's Wholesale Club member for about five minutes and already I want a refund of membership. I go to customer service to get my card. I gave the girl my driver's license which has my FULL LEGAL NAME on it. She asked if she could change it to my first name instead of middle. I said no. She proceeded to dress me down about how if I lose my card, I'll not get another because they don't look up middle names!!! WHAT THE FU@K She even called another employee over so she could discuss how wrong I was with him. I'm definitely conferencing with a manager before I leave!!! #firstimpressions ***UPDATE*** It's been 27 days and I've heard NOTHING from BJs Management! This tells me they couldn't care less that one of their employees working CUSTOMER SERVICE offered and insulted a NEW MEMBER regarding HIS LEGAL NAME BEING USED ON HIS MEMBERSHIP CARD!!! I purchased over $3300.00 in furniture, 75"Samsung TV and a Serra Queen Mattress Set on 6/4/25 & 6/8/25 and never received anything. Even my 24 hour Security Cams recorded anything. I received emails from Ceva, RXO & Q River Inc & I called the & they didn't recognize my phone number as a customer. I frequently contacted BJs on line Support line & they said my items were delivered treated me like I received items. They told me to wait repeatedly 2-3 days, 2-3 days & then another 5 days. I felt extremely frustrated & not like a valued customer. My feelings as a worthless BJs customer. I finally ended up 6/16/25, called Capital One Master Card to freeze card have them investigate my issues. The same identical incidents occurred with my fiancé. Once this is cleared up we are completely done with BJs period. Their online & contract delivery services are the worst we ever encountered. read more

Kinda torn....... To be honest I've had a Sam's Club and Costco membership and was wondering when this place moved in how they would compare. The membership is not as expensive as Costco and is on par with Sam's Club. Some of the differences are that you can use manufacturer coupons here, like what you kid in the Sunday morning paper but how many people actually still get the Sunday morning paper. Did you mail you some coupons which are nice but I have noticed that several brands no did I not carry to this location. Dietz Watson and Applegate ibrance does it keep send me coupons for but they do not carry them at this location and also I did ask associates and managers and they had no idea about those brands. Totally clueless. They do a pretty good gas prices. It is a brand new store so does clean nice and inviting. Thumbs up for this place, but please check out Costco and Sam's Club first because they are all within half a mile radius. read more

This is very similar to Costco and Sam's Club. They have an awesome gas idea where certain items can take off 10 cents a gallon and you can combine them to get gas as low as 2 cents gallon. The parking lot here isn't very big, you may need to park in the overflow lot in the next shopping complex. This location is a bit far for me, so I don't think I'll be joining the club, but I'm hearing they may be expanding to other cities, so maybe that will be good for me. read more

I'm really liking this place. Think Costco but a more manageable size. I only need 2-3 of that item, not a full case like Costco. Much more relaxed, great selection and prices. The coupons they send you are amazing and the gas prices are far better as well (I paid .44/gallon today)! I wish there were more "take and bake" dinner options but overall it's pretty good stuff. I have never been in the store but registered on their website months ago just to look around. This morning I woke up to get an alert of a $10 charge from my VISA. I went online to find that it was an online access charge. I was never notified that there would ever be an online access fee. I just called to get a credit and cancelled my "online account". This is a horrible practice I told their rep and I would never do business with a company that uses such disgusting business practices. He claimed that I should have received emails notifying me of the upcoming charge. Nope. They lost me as a potential customer permanently. I will stick with Costco. read more

I just bought 3 pair of eyeglasses One was sunglasses and the frame price was amazing. I have gotten frames from the other warehouse clubs but the frames are much higher quality for similar prices at BJ and I have plenty eerience with the other clubs. I am am so pleased at the frames but the other thing was the service and attention I received by optician's. It was surperior. They were attentive ,patient,supportive and personable. This is the Madison Heights location of BJ's, which sits on the site of a former Super K-Mart (remember those?!), and is near a Home Depot and Lowe's. This location is the reverse layout of the Taylor location. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a handwashing station is at the main entrance, and all precautions are taken for safet. Great layout and helpful staff. Be careful on the weekends, that's when many people show up. read more

The customer service was good! We were greeted with a "hello" and a warm smile from several employees when we arrived right after they opened this morning. It was easy to find the groceries that we needed and they had a great selection of everything from meats, fruits, vegetables, juices, boxed goods, and frozen foods. There were plenty of organic items and everything had low prices. I was impressed with how clean the store was after they had just opened. The gas prices were reasonable too and the pump was easy to use. I bought a funny ugly Christmas sweater too, which was only $19.99. I wore it today and received multiple compliments on it. Even though I am a member they will not remove/install my tires. When I asked the clerk if they would do this or not he said, "no, it's the stores policy!" and hung up the phone without saying anything else. I would have purchased tires from BJ's but their prices are unexpectedly non-competitive. Since my review got removed I'm posting it again. The security guard at this location racial profiled me and my mother. He was a white guy of course, and we are two brown chicks of Jamaican descent. He came up to us in the parking lot which you're not supposed to do and asked for our receipts and started looking at our truck as if we stole something. Even though we went through the cashier and then through the other security check to give our receipt to the person that marks it. We told management and management said they will speak to their HR about him. If you are of color then be cautious and know your rights. He is not supposed to walk up towards you in the parking lot or racial profile you. Or looking to your car or truck back for items. That's invasion of privacy. In this day this shouldn't be happening still and yet it happened at BJ's, he should be fired. This never happened to us and we shop here all the time and at any store here. Great place, it's similar to Sams Club and Costco, kind of in between the 2. To really maximize savings they offer allot of coupons and you can stack manufacture coupons as well, and the saving add up. They also have items which give you 10 cents off a gallon of gas which you can stack to get gas as low as 2 cents per gallon. The gas is not top tier like Costco but still a good deal. The store is new so it's really clean and and the staff seems really nice. read more

We were excited when a BJ's popped up close to our house. Definitely better than Costco or Sam's Club. Everytime I went to Costco it was dirty, crowded and everyone was rude. I felt stressed everytime I went there. I've shopped at this location about 4-5 times so far and everything is clean, well stocked and no one is trying to run me down with their carts. The cashiers are extremely friendly and helpful with coupons and deals. Of course, the prices can be high or low depending on the item you purchase. I can find certain items cheaper and haven't totally given up on other stores. I've found the produce is very fresh and the meat/seafood/deli department is well stocked and well priced for the selection. My only (minor) complaint is the bakery. Some of the house made items have had a very odd flavor to them, almost metallic like, especially the cookies. If I do buy baked goods, I stick with the name brand products. Will be our go-to store along with Kroger Marketplace down the street. read more

Except for the gas prices nothing really special. If they were the only game in town I might think differently. Produce went bad sooner than I thought it should have (watch out for packed dates) If you like getting e-mails Bj's is the place for you, 2 or 3 a day every day. I had multiple issues logging on to my account and I could never set the madison Heights Store as my store. Some items might be packaged in smaller quantities but not enough to make a real difference. I won't be back once my current membership expires. read more

So far not impressed since joining and if I don't see improvements, I probably won't renew. Online was horrible and the three items I ordered had issues - the planter box arrived damaged and it was a nightmare to try to arrange the return, the snowman while cute, couldn't be put together since the spots where you join the sections didn't align and the automatic kitchen garbage can was very cheesy. Not to mention the panhandler that snuck up behind my daughter and myself, asking for money at the Madison Hts., MI location. Right now it is quite a hike to get to that one, so I hope the Chesterfield location opens soon - the website keeps coming up to ship my items there since they are available and the internet shows they are open, but they're not. Two other issues at the Madison Hts. location - lack of customer service (hung up after being transferred to the gas center since no one picked up and when transferred back, no one picked up again after 10 minutes, so I hung up instead of wasting my cell minutes and they had several food items that were almost two weeks PAST the use by date, that we brought up to a manager since the employee in the dairy department walked away from us. Some people said their membership is more than Costco, but they are the same. BJ's does have slightly longer hours, but at this point, they're not winning me over. read more
