I have had a Sam's membership for many years, and have found that I save many times more than what I paid for the annual fee. Gasoline prices are always the lowest. ...though there is often a line. Prices and service for tires is also excellent at Sam's. Meat, frozen foods, canned foods, and even produce prices are great. You just need to plan because you'll be buying in larger containers or in bulk. Even just purchasing for one small family the savings can add up. Then there's the household and garden items, even furniture... Towels, linens, dishes, small kitchen appliances, rugs, pharmacy, glasses and vision items, the list is long. Do I find everything I need here? No. I still need to go to HEB or Walmart to finish off my list. I've been told their major competitor has some advantages, so I went with my son. I didn't see a convincing reason to switch over. Sam's also has another location on 10th Street which is closer to where I live - where I usually go. I went to this Sam's because they carry a particular product I needed to take to my sister in North Texas. I have consistently had a positive experience here. My only suggestion for improvement is more lanes open for faster checkout. read more

SAMs was quickly becoming a place that I didn't want to frequent. It used to have long lines and the self checkout options were getting packed too, defeating the purpose of a speedy buy and run. However, one thing has redeemed my now frequent visits. This is the SAMs Scan and Go app, available in your iPhone/Android devices. The only reason why I have a SAMs card is because I am a teacher. I sometimes need to buy things in bulk as incentives for my students. However, the items I buy are rarely more than 10 items combined, and I know specifically what I want and where to find it. It used to take me longer to wait in line at a register to pay and to put the items I needed in the cart. Along comes the Scan and Go app. With it, after you register your SAMs card and your debit card, you can scan the items that you want as you put them in the cart with your phone. The app will tally up your items total on the fly. When you are ready to leave SAMs, just click "Checkout," and you pay within the app. No need to make a line at the registers anymore. I just pay at whatever point of the store I happen to be, walk straight to the exit, then show my digital receipt to have it scanned (as is customary for these type of stores) and I'm on my way to the vehicle. I have done this 3 times now, and I turned what would normally be a 25 minute trip into a 7 minute trip. If more stores do something like this, shopping anywhere would be a more pleasant experience everywhere. I commend Sam's for being a trailblazer in the Scan and Pay department. I've been to Sam's many times today. My sister and I were about to load up our car and a young individual who was helping another customer offered to help us with our groceries. I am a member at both Sams and their neighbor the other cost cutting store. Sams isn't as nice and the employees aren't as helpful also generally the prices are not as good as at the competition. But there are certain things that are better at Sams. 1. Pet food is more affordable at Sams. 2. Tires are more affordable here too. 3. The cakes are better here and they have licensed characters that the competition doesn't. 4. Their meat is cheaper (although generally lower quality.) 5. They have self check out and there is rarely a line so you can get out quickly. If you are choosing between the two for memberships I would choose competition but I find enough advantages to be worth paying for both memberships. read more

I recently became a member of this big box store and my experience up to now has been very good. I usually shop at smaller stores since I am always on the go and just need to get something quick. I recently purchased my first home and with that comes a lot more responsibility and shopping for the house that needs to be done. Shopping here has made things a bit easier since I like shopping smart and this place gives me the opportunity to purchase by bulks which means I don't have to go to the store for a long period of time. I also like that they have so many products and you basically can find anything you need in this place which makes it a great one stop shopping experience. read more

This is a busier Sam's due to it being in a more popular location so beware of long lines and crowds. With that being said, you'll find more interesting products that you won't see at the other Sam's. Even though the one on tenth is new, there are less products. I'm guessing this one is stocked more often due to the population. Been coming here for years and never had trouble finding what I needed. The wait can be annoying but go either early morning or close to closing time and you'll be fine. read more

I purchased a cooked chicken that made my family so sick we couldn't even get in the car to make it to the Urgent Care. When finally feeling better, I took the item back to let them know they needed to recall or let people know that their food was making people sick with food poisoning. I got hassled in the customer service line, was forced to go back to front door and get a sticker from a woman that didn't say a word to me when I walked by (this is not a procedure at any Sam's I shop at from Fort Worth to the Border). After that, they did very little other than the female manager gave me an attitude and eventually gave my money back. STAY AWAY from their prepped foods!!!!! read more

I usually dont review retail establishments unless I have good reason too, and McAllen Sam's club has given me that. The membership services desk had a line wrapped out the door. Two associates were helping members, and it looks like they were having issues with the two customers, as they had 3 managers also behind the counter. One of the associates finally cleared her customer, and the manager decided it would be best that they go back onto the floor to hock the premium memberships, and as such she vanished to the kiosk on the sales floor. The line, however, did no such thing, and I stood in line for THIRTY minutes. Absolutely ridiculous. I realize sometimes you have issues with certain customers, but when you have 3-4 people behind the counter and only one actually working, meanwhile you have a line of about 30 people who pay to shop at your store, you should probably step up to the plate and do something about it. When I finally got up to the counter, I had my membership card printed (I had previously joined and paid online the previous day) and I was off to shop. I picked up a big ticket item that was almost $200 cheaper at Sam's when you subtract the membership and I was out the door, and I dont plan on stepping foot in a Sam's Club again. read more

Great place to stock up on paper goods, soft drinks, etc. They do carry some decent wines, as well. Most of the fresh food is in bulk, so make sure you have plenty of room in the freezer--I recommend you get a FoodSaver vac to preserve your purchases. They often have a 2-pack of chuck roasts, so you can cook one and save one. They usually have really good deals on king crab legs and U-10 scallops, too. Try to avoid Sam's on the weekend, as the checkout lines can be crazy long. If you can, go midday during the week. It's much more laid back, then. We have shopped at this Sams Club for many years. It's our go to for supplies for home, church and special events which we often host. In addition, Sam's is our choice for prescription medications at their pharmacy. Always reliable, well-stocked and easy to maneuver. We are glad that this business is located in our neighborhood. Parking can sometimes be a challenge, but since we are a "Business" member, we always have the option of going early when there are less customers. Normally, we gas our cars at the Sam's gas station as well, as it is usually the best price in the neighborhood. This is our "go to" for anything we need in bulk. read more

So i got in line to pay at sams and the checker seemed to be upset that people kept getting in her line. So she would turn the conveyor belt off and take her sweet time so people in line would get frustrated and go to another line. When I came up to unload my cart I asked her to turn on the belt so I could have more room to unload my items. She responded rudely "It is on!" as if to say I'm and idiot. The when she was good and ready she asked for my card but I was still at the end of the belt waiting to unload my items. It felt like a standoff. So finally after the awkward moment I walk up to the belt and flipped the switch to turn it on then proceeded to unload my cart and then gave her my card. I have been a customer of Sam's for many, many years but it's if they keep employing moron's like this young lady they are going to drive me away. read more

Two days ago I visited the Sam's Club located in McAllen, Tx on 1400 E. Jackson with the intent of purchasing, among other things, a semiprofessional camera. I found the one I wanted, which happened to be on sale with a $150 dlls off discount from the retail price valid on the register. I finished my shopping and went to pay, but the cashier, her name was Hope, would not respect the discounted price, she called for help and the person that approached, a man named Alfonso, explained that they could not respect the discounted price because my membership was Mexican, he actually said that to my face!! He said that only memberships issued in the US had access to discounted prices in the store. I must point out that this is not the first purchase I make outside of Mexico and they had no trouble with my membership while paying for the rest of the items, some of them discounted as well. In no place in the store, on the website, on the price tag you take to the register to make the purchase or anywhere else does it say that the price is only valid for members from the US. I find this very upsetting and disturbing, not to mention a blatant discrimination, something I've never faced before and I would never have expected from an international chain such as Sam's club, especially when the membership card is clearly marked with the legend "Valid Worldwide"... after this experience, I can hardly believe that affirmation. read more
