As I slowly pushed open the creaking door, images of what may lie inside flashed through my mind: out-of-date crisps, badly-treated kittens or even a porn inferno. Well, it was a normal convenience store. The fridge of drinks was particularly impressive, with Rubicon juices and banana Yazoo for sale. The counter showcased a selection of gummy sweets, and I am infinitely pleased that I managed to get a small bag of Jelly Babies, which I honestly don't think I've ever seen. The girl behind the counter was pleasent enough, and all-in-all it's a fantastic little shop. Case closed.

I really like this friendly little newsagent come corner shop. The family who own it are always…read morefriendly, and it is a real little hub of the community. They do fresh filled rolls and hot drinks as well as all the usual crisps, sweets and juice. They have a good selection of magazines and papers and they also get daily deliveries of nice little McGee's cakes- yum! As well as all this they have a small mini-market bit where you can pick up basic groceries and a small selection of fruit and veg. Over all I would definitely recommend this small independent store.

A good bakery that is not over stocked and a section for Kosher products for the large Jewish community. I've seen cd's on sale such as various hit albums for under £5.00. Staff are flexible and will go to the tills to serve so that you are not waiting to be served.

Anyway, as Eleanor pointed out this is a pretty large Spar and thus has a good selection of all the usual grocers. This is particularly, handy and useful for those along the fruit and veg lines as well as prepacked sandwiches. As it's unlikely you'll find products up to a similar standard of these in the numerous corner shops and newsagents scattered around locally. Hence, it's either this Spar or the Sainsbury's further along Clarkston Road. Fair enough, Sainbury's isn't all that much further and does, obviously, have a much better selection - being a supermarket and all - but this Spar is that little bit handier for a few quality items. For instance, today we popped in here on the way from stocking up from Discount Pet Supplies and to a pub lunch. So an excellent addition which fits nicely into a niche market between the newsagents and Sainsbury's massive supermarket. Plus, there's a free of charge cash machine attached to the wall just outside, which is also of great use.

Even if I was at these small shops at the Broom, I would probably still go out of my way to go to a supermarket elsewhere (e.g. Asda or M&S at the Avenue, Waitrose by the M77) because this one is just a bit rubbish.

Great staff , very helpful especially the wee guy with the beard; Steven i think is his name always a smile and a happy chat to customers which doesn't seem to figure much these days to people especially in areas like Newton Mearns which is a shame! Yes prices are not the cheapest but there is more to life than price which everyone seems obsessed with and the Co-Op has always been there to help ordinary folks and still does so I feel good supporting them whether in Brodick in Arran when I am on holiday over there or here in Newton Mearns. Don't forget your co-op card when you go with 5% cashback and 1% to charity! Clean and organised layout with most of what you need for emergency supplies and top up food. The store is a top up shop and is really used by the surrounding locals in the Broom area who dont have cars or from the many retirement homes dotted all around it. Very convenient and opens till 10pm which is great 7 days a week! Always a cheery sight when you get off the bus late at night just outside and need some milk or bread and long may the store continue.

This shop is one of the worst convenience stores i have ever been to. Unfortunately i have to visit…read morethe store regularly as it is on my way to the bus stop that i use to commute to work but i am always greeted with rude staff. Every time i am forced to wait at the counter for the ladies to complete what ever task they are doing first before they walk over to serve me. This happens almost every day. I am usually in a hurry to catch a bus and this just makes it more difficult. They never apologise for the wait and even sometimes argue between each other about who should be serving me. It feels like by me walking to the counter to buy something that it is an inconvenience to the staff. There is also a ridiculous policy that if yo upay by card you have to spend a minimum of £6! which is awful when you just want to buy a bottle of water. I have to life cash each time i need to go to the store. Then the ladies behind the counter always moan about how they have no change when i present them with a £10 note....what else am i supposed to do? buy things i dont need just to keep them happy? or use my card and spend over £6 even though i just want water? I always feel awkward when i use this store and its because of the bad attitude displayed by all of the women that work in the store in the mornings. Im tempted to change my bus stop to one slightly further away that is beside a much nicer shop just so i no longer need to visit this awful store.
