We enjoyed the adjoining shop and their selection of jams and spread. The wait was worth it! The room is a bright large room overlooking the river. Handmade quilts hang from the ceiling. We started with nachos, that had the right blend of cheese and toppings. Unfortunately there were no side plates brought, causing us to eat like animals from a common trough. A slight mishap with a spilled glass of water interrupted our otherwise pleasant appetizer. The server's attention was less than prompt causing us to get extra napkins from directly behind the counter. Still, we soldiered on and prepared for the main feast. The seafood chowder was one of the better ones all trip. Fresh and flavourful pieces in a cream broth, served with a fresh side biscuit. The real opportunity is to highlight the delicious jams and spreads from the shop which would add some much needed flavour to the biscuits. Other meals included kids pasta, kids jam sandwich, a club sandwich, fish cakes and a Caesar salad. All were promptly devoured. A great location with fresh food and pleasant service. Worth the wait!

The decor is bright and cheerful, spacious in feel. If you look around you'll find area history on the walls. Staff are wonderful and knowledgeable about the products they serve. Allison University, this unique market (in an old yellow house) offers a good selection of organic and gluten free groceries, health foods, and vegetarian products. They carry vitamins, dietary supplements, fair trade organic coffee, teas, cheeses, chutneys, salsa, buckwheat flour, bread mixes, lentils, flaxseed, organic baking mixes, organic molasses, ceramic teapots, handcrafted goods, and much more. The back of the market houses a cozy gluten free bakery cafe counter offering fresh gluten free & organic baked goods (focaccia thin buns, cinnamon buns, muffins, cookies, cakes, breads), sandwiches, soups, salads, fair trade organic coffees espresso, lattes, and real fruit smoothies. The menu is gluten free and vegetarian with vegan and dairy free options. There's seating along the back window and outside covered patio seating in front of the market. We ended up taking tea and their only scone to go and ate at the picnic tables next to the small dam. The scone was buttery and fresh... we paid extra for clotted cream and strawberry jam. I could have done without the jam as the strawberry was breaking down a bit. The teas were delicious! Lavender Earl Grey and Lemongrass ginger plus a hot choclate. The cashier was not as knowledgable about the teas or desserts and so we didnt purchase any. All in all, the experience, especially for having to order to go could have been more pleasurable... and in the end, the warm beverage and fresh scone hit the spot.
