Had a great final night in Isla Mujeres here at Samura! Our server was amazing and the decor and vibes were perfect. The dj playing good music added to the overall hip atmosphere. Also, we weren't expecting the impromptu party, complete with sparklers, singing and a limbo party with shots lol. We participated then got back to our dinner and good vibes. The lobster egg rolls, wagyu New York and 3 sushi rolls were more than enough to fill us up. All were delicious as well! Would return for sure when visiting the south side! read more

We came here for a "date night" while on vacation on the island. Our waiter was very friendly & personable. Our food & drinks were brought out quickly. The ambiance is beautiful, especially at night. It's like you're in a tropical paradise. We ordered a few drinks, sushi rolls and a steak to share. Everything was delicious. Took off a star b/c the music was very loud & random. Really special experience dining with the folks at Samura. Such a unique interior of the restaurant as almost a sculpted jungle! And the food...Authentic Japanese and Thai fusion exquisitely prepared. We enjoyed the Thai beef curry as well as a generous bowl of miso soup and seaweed salad, and several rolls. Great staff! Our server Theo was a blessing as his name implies! Will return the next time we are on the island. read more

It's loud. Insanely loud, there's a dj and the sound system is so loud, you can't talk to the rest of your party without shouting. Why a sushi restaurant needs a dj, smoke machines and a laser light show is beyond me. The menus are ridicously large, easily 18x24" and heavy. Very drunk people twerking for the staff and dancing on tables. It's a crappy vacation niteclub that serves sub-par sushi. I loved it here! Good sushi and great drink with good music! I also got the udon and it was okay but I wouldn't get again. My waitress was attentive and even offered me mosquito repellent and called a taxi for me to go to my next location! I went earlier in the afternoon and stayed near by and probably recommended going for early dinner since it seems to get busy as it gets later. read more

This was the worst dining experience I've had in many years. Despite making a hibachi reservation a month prior, the host insisted that we made a reservation at a regular table for our group. Our table was not ready so the host frantically set up a table at the back of the restaurant with less seats than there were people in our group (the 3 children in the group had to share). The host did try to work with us and said that they could have a hibachi table for us within the hour. He told us to order drinks and appetizers while we waited, but our server would take orders for half the table and disappear. The drinks we did order took about 45 minutes and our server never re-appeared to take any appetizer orders. When we finally were seated at the hibachi table, the manager attempted to smooth things over and personally took our drink and appetizer orders, but those took another 45 mins to an hour to appear. We waited and waited, but the hibachi chef never appeared. All in all, we were there for over 2.5 hours and left to go elsewhere for an actual meal. Despite the fact that we only ordered a couple drinks each and a handful of appetizers, our bill was $350 USD. This restaurant needs complete management overhaul. read more

The worst service experience I have ever received. We sat for an hour and a half before getting our drinks. We had to waive our waitress down to even take our order and we were missing a quarter of our food. Table around us were served whole dinners before we even got (the few we actually received) our drinks. We were told to eat here when we visited Isla last year, so we did. We loved it so much we went twice while we were on vacay. The service was amazing, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun and entertaining. We are visiting again this year and have a reservation to eat there again. I really wanted to like this restaurant as it had a very fun atmosphere. However, we had a terrible experience. It took 2 hours to get 3 rolls. After waiting over an hour for our food, the waiter came and apologized and said our food was accidentally given to another table. He assured us they were making it and it would only be 3-4 more min. We waited another 40 min for the food to come. I spoke with a manager who didn't apologize once. Instead of taking $ off of our bill, they brought us an extra roll (with one that we couldn't eat since we don't care for salmon). Very disappointing experience. read more

We travel the world extensively and visit many restaurants. I have almost 300 TripAdvisor reviews and almost all are 4 or 5 stars. You really need to go out of your way to get a poor rating from me. Samura did everything possible and then some to get a poor rating. Worst restaurant in my travels over 6 continents. The good: Beautiful outdoor setting under a beautiful huge tree (like a Banyan tree in Hawaii) strung with beautiful lights. The rest is not good, listed from worst to not so worst: *THE MUSIC IS TOO LOUD!! This place thinks it is a 1970's disco with pulsating music so loud you cannot talk. Decent music selection from Taylor Swift to Bee Gees to metal but just too loud. DJ was the only one enjoying his own music dancing with his MAC laptop while oblivious to the customers. I went for dinner, not a disco. See other reviews that mention this. *Service was nonexistent. Worst ever. Customers were walking to the bar to ask for menus and drinks since the waiters would not come around. You cannot make up for poor quality food and poor service with loud music, lighting and fireworks with the hibachi. Focus on the basics. Made a reservation, restaurant was empty and was not even given the chance to try the cuisine. If your IT is broken, fix it. Food was really really good. The Wagyu beef cooked on the stone was super yummy and the kids went nuts over it. The shrimp was well cooked and sushi was great. We really loved the decor, it was beautiful and created what should have been a relaxing experience. The servers were very good and did a great job. My only issue was the music. It was 70's, 80's Hard Rock that was blasted so loud we had to move tables and ask them to turn the nearest speaker off. I love me some AC/DC and Twisted Sister but not at a $200 dinner. We did speak with hostess and manager and were told that's how the owner likes it. So Food 5 Star, decor 5 Star, ambiance 1 Star. If I came back I would see how loud and what music was playing before getting a table. They also need to get new tables as the one we sat at was rickety. read more
