Love this museum for my four and six year old. We got the yearly pass and try to visit the stem room often. There are always different events like farmers markets and "Bugapalooza" where you can see tons of insects and reptiles and even hold some. Walking through the San Bernardino County Museum brought back a lot of memories since I hadn't been here since elementary school. It was fun to revisit it as an adult and see the exhibits from a different perspective. While nothing really stood out as a must-see attraction, there were plenty of interesting displays to browse, and I found myself enjoying the mix of local history and natural science. I spent about an hour exploring, and it turned out to be a great way to escape the heat while doing something both affordable and a little educational. It may not be a destination I'd visit regularly, but it's certainly worth considering if you're looking for a relaxed afternoon activity in the area. read more

Cool Spot! Came here with some kids on a rainy day. Plenty for all of us to see and some things to interact with and the employees we passed by were friendly. There was a very interactive area for the kids - my friend bought the wrist band but something "steam" and was a little more $. It had a lot of interactive things for the kids to do - including coloring in dinosaurs on paper and then they get projected onto the wall. Lady at the front at 2:00pm on Sunday told me I couldn't purchase a differnet color bracelet (the next time slot) so my son can continue to play in there sensory lab, even though the woman in the sensory lab told us if we wanted to continue we would need to buy a another bracelet? This museum is so great! They have discounted prices and you can even find some deals on Groupon. We went twice, once in the summer, and we had such a great time! They had a passport event that could get free meals for kids. Our family loved our time here and our kids mainly enjoyed the Steam Lab, and the outdoor activities they had outside. Because of the passport event, the Museum makes you visit a second time for the extended hours or for trivia night on 2 selected dates. Well, we missed 1, and had called ahead of time to "make up" for the extended hours and were told that we were able to get the stamp on the passport and get the meal for the kids. So we went again on the second date that they had extended hours. We were sorely disappointed that they said they could not give out the Passport stamps as the program was already done and the meal voucher for the kids were already expired. What makes it worse, is how the lady at the front communicated it to us. She was just very off-putting, and was giving us an unnecessary attitude. So one star off for a poor attitude on that staff for that night. We tried to shake off her attitude since we had paid to be there a second time, we went out to look at the moon and Saturn! Thanks to the amateur astronomers club of SB, and then we were able to roam around the museum too at night, which was actually really nice because there wasn't a crowd! You can take pictures and take your time on the different exhibits that they had. The only thing with the extended hours is that the Steam Lab was closed. Anyways, if you've got kids and no plans on the weekend, this place is truly a gem for the family. There are plenty of exhibits to look at, lots of things to learn about, and plenty of free parking spaces! read more

Still an amazing space to bring your family, especially little ones. They are always looking at ways to keep the exhibits interesting by refreshing collections and adding new spaces like the new Steam Lab. My daughter loves all the sensory play and builder stations. On this Sunday afternoon, we also explored the exterior of the museum and found some lovely picnic areas facing the Edward's Mansion. The Ginko trees are changing into their lively yellow fall colors. There are a bunch of strawberry trees blooming and the fruit are turning their distinctive red color. Besides the interactive exhibits inside the museum, the outdoor areas are also a great place for your little ones to explore and play. I saw a mom pick up big sweet gum leaves to use for crafts later. Recommend coming for their annual events too like stargazing! read more

My family and I came here yesterday for a school field trip, it was a group of mostly younger kids around 2nd grade or under. My first grader had a really good time learning about animals, rocks, technology, cars, and more about the history of SB county. We spent about 2 hours, maybe a little more, taking our time really looking at everything and reading about the exhibits. The restrooms upstairs were also noticeably clean which was nice. The gift shop was small and had some cute handmade stuff and other souvenirs related to the museum. The workers there in the gift shop weren't the most friendly and seemed kind of bothered that their conversation was interrupted to ring us up, but besides that we had a good time. I feel like once would be enough to visit, maybe again when my kid gets a little older and can focus on some of the other stuff they had there. read more

I didn't know this museum was so vast with a variety of art. There is the bottom level that has antique cars and house goods. There is a citrus agricultural section. The second floor has a geology area. Dinos and topography neighbor on the second floor. The colorful landscapes were my fav. There is ample free parking and the admission fee is nominal. When in doubt what to do with the grandkids for the day, point your nose towards the charming city of Redlands, where the County Museum has been entertaining families for decades. The last time we were there was probably in 1987 when my kids were young. It was time to renew our acquaintance. . We shouldn't have been too surprised that the museum has grown and improved since that time. The entry, a vast desert cactus garden, had matured into a magnificent, botanical display. The interesting collections inside had expanded exponentially. The interactive learning centers were far better than I had ever remembered. Downstairs, there was that still-magnificent old, giant, hairy Mastodon, standing near the entry, for all to ogle and be in awe. She (?) and her baby, who is the size of a baby elephant, made us feel quite diminutive. There are opportunities at every turn for learning. There is so much more than just a warehouse of fossils, glow in the dark rocks, taxidermied animals, pickled snakes, and bug collections. You will be entertained for hours. And while there are elevators to get upstairs, anyone who can, should use the ramp headed to the second level. All the way up the ramp are displays that are historically interesting from our civilization's aspect and allow for hands-on learning experiences. It evokes conversations on how the old technology such as typewriters, calculating machines and telephones used to work. I'm old. I could easily share a wealth of experiences with this youngest generation, who would have had no idea they were seeing. Upstairs, the Hall of History has, among other things, a collection demonstrating the progress in transportation. Seeing the old double yoke that was used for oxen to pull wagons, standing next to the covered wagon and plow that made travel and work easier, and getting photos of the kids hanging out the windows of a stagecoach, brought things into perspective. The simplified sector demonstrating the history of the local citrus industry was fun, with a hands on set up for picking fake citrus out in the groves of "trees", and re-enacting how they were delivered to the packing house; sorting, sending the crates down rollers, and finally stacking the crates at the train station, seemed to be one of the highlights for my 9 year old granddaughter. Currently, there is a small art gallery on the first floor, next to the entrance, where the work of a local artist is currently featured. He makes fragile, lacy paper from cactus fiber, then creates lovely, frameable artwork. In the center of the gallery is a unique display. A single, live piece of cactus is hooked up to some very sophisticated electronics that pick up plant impulses and translate them into electronic music. You can hear the mesmerizing drone of music as it gently, melodically undulates, if you stand close. It is not to be missed. This is a great family experience. Entrance fees are quite reasonable, and the stimulating displays and work stations are fascinating and educational for all. read more

I was very impressed by some recent updates to their animal displays, as well as a more recent installment that they had called "play". While the display itself was not very invoking of play for my small child, they did have a lot of really fun activities on the outside of the museum. I was a little sad to see that their nature room was gone, but happy to see that it was replaced by a STEM room. I also really appreciate their display regarding natural elements and how they pertain to our everyday small appliances with an excellent Hands-On exercise on what is considered trash, recyclable and E-Waste. I also really like how they try to show the fossil history of Southern California as well as how the citrus industry put us on the map! Great museum to visit for all ages! There's lots of discounts too, EBT card holders can get in for $1 per person for up to 9 people in the party and students get a discount with their student ID too. Plenty of parking outside and there's stuff to see outside as well, such as the train, cactus garden and other local flora garden, and lots of what seems to be farming and mining tools. We went on a Saturday morning before it got too busy. There are some interactive exhibits and the front desk gives you sanitized styluses to use. Great thinking! There's a gift shop in front where we got a super cute, out of production bat plushie. For permanent collections, they have a Hall of History with artifacts from past cultures such as covered wagons, pottery, outfits, etc, Hall of Earth Science with fossils and plate tectonics, Hall of Biodiversity with a HUGE collection of taxidermy/preserved regional birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects, Minerals Collection, a hall with a bunch of technological advances from the past, and Geologic features of the county. For the temporary collections they have Masters of the Night - Bats exhibit and the African American Mojave Desert Homesteaders history and art fusion exhibit. My favorite exhibits were definitely the Hall of Earth science with all the fossils and archaeological history to look at, the Hall of Biodiversity since I love animals and the like, the Minerals were gorgeous and showed everyday uses of many of them, as well as human's impact on non-renewable resources, and the bats exhibit, so many cute bats that I never knew existed! I'd love to visit here again so I can thoroughly read everything and hopefully when new collections are rotated in. read more

I had a great time at the SB county museum! I never even thought to come here for some reason but they had some really cool stuff to look at. I was really impressed by the order they had things and just how well put together/neat it was. It was really informative and I enjoyed looking at all the different animals they've had in our area. The kids enjoyed it too. It is not too large where you get bored and tired after so much time (if you're anything like me), I think it's just right. You can get through it in a good amount of time while everyone is still engaged and in good spirits. Their employees were really nice and friendly too. There were some who were working on old rocks/fossils - they allowed us to come back and take a look at what they're doing while explaining things to us. They had a nice gift shop in the beginning/end of anyone wants to buy souvenirs! I'd love to visit again. read more

My eight year old son was entranced by the fossil preparation laboratory, when one of the scientists invited him into the work area to show him how paleontologists remove rock from around a fossil, in this case a leg-bone of a North American Camel, Camelops. First off, I love this place. I've taken my son since he was just a tiny little guy and I've never been disappointed. It's always so clean & so fresh in there. Never too overcrowded and always has a ton of fun stuff to look at and do. The MAIN AND BEST reason I came on here to write a review is for the new STEAM lab in the back building!!!! Oh my gosh was this place so cool! So many hands on activities and scientific toys for the kids to play and experiment with! I really hope they decided to do some cool stuff like this in the main museum. We were in there for over an hour and my best friend was there with her son as well. We colored, played legos, magnatiles, played with this really cool sand thing. They had puzzles and books and just some really cool stuff! So happy to see the building turned into something so fun and so cool for the little ones! I love this place so much. read more

My husband and I took our 2 1/2 year old grandson to the museum. I think he was too young and things were over his head, he still had fun. It was pretty empty when we went there so he got all his running in. He did like the lower floor where he could pick limes off a fake three and put them in a crate to go on a conveyor belt. He enjoyed looking at all the animals, all through the museum. The area that had the wooly mammoth and dinosaurs I think was his favorite. The floor that has birds he liked because he has been reading books about birds, nests and babies. With being so young he went through the areas pretty fast but seemed to enjoy himself and that's the goal we wanted. I wish the building outside that used to have live animals was open. I don't know if it was closed that day or permanently. My daughter when she was 14 volunteered there. She would hold an animal for people to pet. All ages of children loved visiting the animals, they need to bring that back. read more

Nice and clean with AC on blast!! Super neat museum with some enriched history about the local county of San Bernardino. This county doesn't get enough recognition for some major historical events, and this museum opens your eyes to that side of San Bernardino modern people may overlook. I have a 2 year old daughter and she enjoyed the citrus picking hands on activity area they had there. A cute way to get the kiddos to understand the history and process of citrus picking. Lots of cool information and knowledge there. Compared to LA this museum wasn't huge, but it definitely wasn't small at all either. I very much enjoyed my time there and enjoyed learning a bit more about the history and development of San Bernardino county. Oh, a little tip.... Bring a lunch so you can eat outside while on a break or after your exploring. I unfortunately didn't know there wouldn't be any cafe or food there, so if you want to eat there pack a lunch and eat it outside. There is so much to even see outside with the train there and their water mill and mine set up. Definitely will return. $10 per adult Children 5 and under are free!! Took my niece and nephew and we had a blast. There are so many things for kids to do and so much too look at. There is many different animals, rocks, fossils, and even some cars. Outside there is a train and picnic bench's to sit down and enjoy some lunch. There are also elevators in the museum so bringing a stroller was not an issue at all. Excellent museum. They have done a lot to update the exhibits. There is something for all ages. The children enjoyed the citrus exhibit while grandpa enjoyed the classic cars. Mom loved the gemstones. Everyone loved the local flora and fauna. The price to get in was very reasonable. $10 for adults $7 for kids and free for under 5. We enjoyed chatting with the local lace club set up in the lobby as well. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the art exhibit by the front door. It's set with a warning for children because it's death themed. Mom and dad and aunts and uncles checked it out but no one enjoyed it. We all found it a silly addition that didn't fit in the museum. The space could be much better utilized with landscape art or local artisans like the lace ladies. We all absolutely loved the cacti garden though. Really beautiful job. Make sure to check that out!! The gift shop had some good items at reasonable prices on some items and higher prices on other things. We were able to get a few souvenirs there. So it is worth a visit also. read more

Pleasantly surprised. My husband and I have driven past this museum on the 10 fwy multiple times and we finally decided to check it out with our toddler. I didn't expect much, but it's a gem. Very clean, lots of interesting history about the inland empire, citrus groves, and different animals, dinosaurs, and reptiles in the area. Our son loved it.
