Starting off right. The rest of the day was a blur of booze and giggles.

Would you believe that two people who enjoy beer so much have never in their lives attended a beer festival? (I don't count Hop Con, as it's a specialized event.) One thing is for sure: attending this first beer festival truly opened our eyes. We went with a friend of mine (and randomly met up with one of my brothers at the event), and enjoyed three hours of tiny beer samples and long lines for food trucks. I know that doesn't sound like a good time, but it absolutely was. I enjoy people-watching, and this was a great event at which to sit back - or stand in line - watching the mass of drunken humanity seething around you. People were in such great moods! There was laughter, frivolity, attempts at starting "the wave" between all the people in line for the loo... And the beer selection was great. There were way too many tents to visit in one three hour period, but we gave it our best go. There were a few surprises, as far as beer concoctions went, and also quite a few that were given an emphatic thumbs down. But that's the fun of an event like this. Sampling brews you normally wouldn't notice, enjoying the sweet flavor of liquid barley with a group of friendly strangers, and singing along to the 80's songs that were being performed by the two excellent live bands that day. Really can't ask for much more. The event was well-managed and seemed to be efficiently run, from the front gate to the exits at closing time. Makes me eager for the next few festivals on the horizon. Oh, you bet your sweet patootie there are more beer fests looming on the horizon!

San Diego Brew Fest 2015 was my first beer/brew buffet fest, and in my opinion, was a perfect way to be introduced to this wonderful San Diego beer festival tradition. Located in a magnificent city of friendly, beautiful people and where craft beer is popularly brewed and perfected, San Diego is the perfect spot for hundreds of brewers and breweries to come together and share their best creations. The weekend was a busy one for breweries. While an even larger beerfest went on in Del Mar, Liberty Station had it's own, and was still very popular regardless of another beerfest being in town, so popular, that despite a large number of breweries present, many brewers still ran out of certain beers in their selection near the very end. A beerfest is like winetasting, only, you get a nice cold 4oz or more shot of a random beer that you have little idea what the experience will be like. The anticipation is quite exciting each and every time. With winetasting, you have your variations of whites and reds; with beer tasting you have your lights and darks; beer also has many variations with various alcohol percentages (ales, lagers, stouts, porters, malts, ambers, blondes, creams, fruits, goldens, honeys, pale ales, reds, wheats, peppered, sours, the list goes on...). A playground smorgasbord of what seems like a neverending variety of beers invites you to try each one, although, you will likely never get around to it and probably pass out or blackout far before you even get close. San Diego Brew Fest 2015 was a very successful one. It was my first, but my experience was a success. While I would rate this beerfest 5 stars because of the great time I had, it gets 4 for long lines, though they moved pretty fast. Lines can also be deceiving - many a time there is a line due to a chain reaction of drunk folks lining up, not really the quality of the beer, and you might have that booth with the most awesome beer with no line at all. Lines aren't all that bad either since you also need to take a break here and there, and remember to eat something and drink plenty of water, because some of those beers creep up on you! How about 4.5 stars? Luckily you are in San Diego, where a variety of delicious eateries and inviting hotels await after a long day of beer buffet drinking debauchery. Remember to keep hydrated, drink responsibly, and have a designated driver! Looking forward to more of these in the near future!

We snagged up a deal through a website called bloomspot where we paid $25 for VIP tickets to the brewfest. We booked our train tickets and were on our way with our favorite beer drinking buddies and basically it only got better from there. The sun and breeze were perfect, the beer was flowing and grass felt good. Everyone there was just down to have a good time and relax, there was this really cool vibe happening amongst everyone even with the cheesy band and music. This is a brewfest that can only get better, they have such a great space to bring in more foodtrucks and maybe some icecream/tropical shave ice vendors. It was a simple event but for some reason one of the best brewfests we have been too. Bring a picnic blanket or chairs, sunscreen and some water and you are all set.

Let me enjoy this triple IPA for a second

Persons from Guam and Samoa were well represented here! The main stage features entertainment every thirty minutes. I came here to see my six year old niece do some hula; however, they had cultural exhibitions for the entire weekend! Also cool are the cultural merch and food that you can get here. I was able to get a really solid 3 meat sampling of Chamorro (Guamanian) food for $25, which came with a red rice, 3 meats, and creamy greens. Lines could be pretty long for food and it can get pretty hot at the park; however, we had a good time as we were here in the morning before the sun brought down its wrath on the crowds. We parked for free at the Sun Runner Parking lot off Sea World Parkway, and they had shuttles that took you to the event from the lot for $2 per person. If you are coming to this event, then I think this is a great way to get to the event. The event is running through the end of this weekend. I primarily come to support family that participates; however, we did find some good food and Pacific Islander vendors, so it was a good time overall!

Parking was easy and it was a cinch to get in and out of the festival in the heart of Liberty Station. The event went from 12-3pm and the line wrapped around the block, but had steady flow with shortly arriving inside after about a 20 minute wait. I got to try many vendors some familiar and many for the first time! 1. La Corriente Cocina Del Pacifico: Red Snapper and Ahi Tuna 2. Mezcal Los Javis 3. Brewjeria: West Coast IPA 4. Cherry Fish 5. I left by 1:45pm after checking out a good amount of vendors! Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. Pros: lots of alcohol, super friendly vendors, San Pellegrino everywhere to keep you hydrated, nicely decorated with Day of Dead photo ops, fresh hot tacos (all delicious) with fancy toppings, restaurants from TJ, Mexicali, SD, variety of tacos from lengua to Thai to ahi to salmon, free parking, nice variety of alcohol from sangria to beer to wine to hard cider. Cons: long lines, waste of plates, no table tops/belly ups or seats unless part of VIP section, no dessert booths, lots of empty booths and/or vendors ran out of food before 2:00. But getting to go for free makes me even embarrassed to bring up the cons. Truly it was a great event. Liberty Station was a great venue for this because it was spacious for the amount of people in attendance. Tix were sold out. Parking is easy and free. Only caveat: I didn't check out restrooms or see them but I do wish there were handwashing stations around. Some vendors were eating with the same gloved hands they were serving from.

At least this year they were able to rent out part of the SDCCU Stadium lot, so there's a ton of parking and no need for a shuttle to get there. There were a good amount of vendors, but the food was really just mediocre. You also really have to do your research on all the vendors before you go, because the one we decided to get was awful. The one we went to had these BBQ Squid Skewers which we ordered, and they were very undercooked. They were pretty much still raw. We took it back to them and they just cooked it a little bit more and the second time around the body of the squid was cooked better, but the tentacles were still very raw. Some of the vendors also didn't really plan accordingly because by 8 pm, before peak time, some of them were already sold out of items. Most of the main course type foods were just average, overpriced food. I think the better items to get here are the drinks and the desserts, so I would recommend getting something to eat before you arrive, and then wait in line for the drinks and desserts. There was absolutely no seating at all, so a lot of people, us included, just ended up sitting on the ground to eat our food. There were maybe like 5 tables that I saw in the entire venue which were obviously occupied very very quickly. There was a ton of open space, even with the amount of people walking around and the long lines, so there should definitely be a lot more tables than there actually were. I hope that next year they really rent out way more tables and chairs because this year it was just not enough. Like I said, I arrived around 5:30 pm, and I was glad that I did, because by 8 pm, some of the vendors would run out of certain items, and the lines were just so ridiculously long, which led to a ridiculously long wait, for ridiculously mediocre food. When we left around 9:45, the line to just get inside was so long that it reached the concrete border at the lot and had to make a bend in order to not go past it. If you're planning on coming here, I highly recommend going closer to the opening time because there is no way that I'd pay $5 to wait hours in line for sold out food. I went in early, so the wait times weren't so bad for me, which is probably why my experience wasn't as bad as others. It was still pretty bad though.

I find it humorous reading the one-star reviews from earlier tonight because the 2019 version of…read morethe SD Night Market was an improvement over the past years, especially the cluster that was on Convoy St in 2018. That being said, many of the critiques were spot-on and accurate. Here were my observations for the first night of the event... Pros: * There were many more parking spaces than in the Kearny Mesa area. A shuttle was no longer needed to transport people to the site. * Food vendors were more numerous this time (~32 compared to less than 10). * There was plenty of open space away from the food lines to walk around and not feel overcrowded. Cons: * The wait to get into the stadium parking lot was ridiculously long. The organizers needed to hire SD Police to direct traffic and override the signals which were useless. * There was a competing auto festival on the other side of the stadium lot so that added to the congestion on Friars Rd. * The admission lines should have been more efficiently managed especially for those who had already purchased a ticket on Eventbrite. * Some vendors really underestimated the customer demand and ran out of food early. * The food lines did take a long time as many of the booths seemed caught off guard by the crowds. Overall, I gave my experience 2.5 stars and rounded up because trust me, the SD Night Market has been even more poorly organized than what we have seen so far. PS: I heard the Fire Marshal had to shut down admission around 10 pm because the capacity of 5,000 attendees had been reached.

This dynamic is welcomed to most people because they get to socialize and buy more then just fresh fruits and veggies. The only thing I am critical about is the organization of the booth space that allows the flow of people in better safety and comfort. I assume there was some store front push back that wanted 100% of there sidewalk available and clear surfing the market but what that has done has jammed too many people in what is obviously a "narrow space" to walk. It would be a fair and SAFE compromise to use 50% of the sidewalks on each side and adjust back the venders booths giving people 5 feet more in the middle to walk around. It would be easier to do this rather then assume or ask people to not stand around creating bottlenecks or be considerate of others and move like a car on a road. Expect to drive around for parking if you are not local enough to walk to the event and crowding due to the popular area it is in, live music, fresh foods and drinks as well as plenty of unique crafts and clothing.
