I was trying to find an activity for my son to let out some extra energy. He expressed interest in gymnastics , so I called and inquired. I let the person over the phone know my son hasn't done organized activities and was wondering if there was anyone to basically help guide my son if he was worried. Turns out that's not how it went. The instructor tried once and there was no other person to help. Granted you can't leave your other students hanging, but I was given the impression that someone was going to help. I emailed twice and got no response- I wanted to see if going to another class would benefit him, maybe another teacher or more boys to help ease him in, but no communication . Checks outs with the other reviews I've read. I am very disappointed in the organization considering the good reviews. I basically wasted my money taking my child here. He had a fear of new things and people, as a mom , I asked, and was assured and basically was told a lie. So you're welcome for my $230. My daughters were enrolled at SDG for the past four years. During that time, SDG was a great gym. They had strong coaches, a strong team culture, and my daughters were genuinely happy there. Unfortunately, things changed when a major conflict occurred at the Otay Ranch location involving coaches and management. There was a significant dispute that resulted in staff being fired and others leaving. In the middle of all that chaos, my daughters and many other athletes were left without the stability they had come to rely on. Although many families who had been there as long as we had chose to leave, we decided to stay because we believed SDG would do the right thing and rebuild. The gym was clearly understaffed, classes were being covered by less experienced coaches, and the more experienced staff appeared overwhelmed. Despite these challenges, we remained loyal because we hoped things would improve. A year later, however, the gym still had not returned to what it once was. After seeing little progress, we made the difficult decision to leave. What happened next has been extremely frustrating. After canceling, I realized I had already been charged $770 for the following month's tuition. I requested a refund and was asked to complete a form, but no refund was guaranteed and I was given very little confidence that the issue would be resolved. Instead, I disputed the charge through my bank and I am still waiting on that. Then, to my surprise, I woke up and discovered that SDG had charged me for a second month as well. As a result, I have now been billed for two months of tuition while my daughters have not attended a single class. In total, I have been charged $1,578 for services we did not receive. For a family that remained loyal for four years, this treatment has been incredibly disappointing. Trying to recover this money has been a nightmare, and I honestly wish we had left sooner. To make matters worse, during the instability at the gym, two of my daughters tried out at another gymnastics program. At the time, we chose to stay with SDG because we wanted to give them a chance to recover. When my daughters recently tried out again after another year at SDG, they had actually lost skills and were placed in lower levels than they had been offered during their previous tryout. That was heartbreaking to see. I want to be clear: I do not wish any harm on SDG. We had many good years there, and I am grateful for the positive experiences my daughters had. The only thing I want is the return of the money that continues to be taken from my account after I canceled. If you are reading this review, it is because that issue still has not been resolved. For parents considering SDG, I can only speak from my own experience. As a gymnastics parent for the past several years, I would encourage you to carefully explore all of your options before enrolling. SDG may be one of the most visible and accessible gyms in the area, but based on our experience, it is no longer the quality program it once was. We are not the only ones that feel this way. Here is my overall review after attending almost 8 month. The first few months were amazing 10/10. The instructors were professional and you could tell they genuinely loved their job. The instructor for gym ninjas would set up obstacle courses and go above and beyond but since he left it went down hill, that's no fault to the new instructors because they don't know better. Some pros: Price/enrollment fees The activities and summer camps they offer The day camp they offer once a month on Fridays from 5-10 is amazing, they usually provide dinner and the kids have so much fun. It's usually a large group of kids having a blast. Nice staff and engaged with students, learning their name and building relationships Clean facility, the bathrooms and area to wait is nice Cons: Not sure if she's the manager or assistant manager but she has her kid with her majority of the time she's here he's running around through classes with goldfish. The instructors for other classes are constantly running after her kid and holding him not paying attention to their own duties. Another con is that they promote flexibility and "catch up" classes but when you come Saturday and they only offer 1 during the school week and 1 Saturday almost an hour after your class, it's pointless. When I originally signed up telling the manger or assistant manger I was active duty and my spouse was, I said we would need a flexible schedule and they said they would accommodate and that they offered "make-ups. Fast forward a few months to when I need to use one and they are acting brand new like they never told me that and said they only offer them for sickness and not just other excuses. Also, they NEVER answer the front desk phone, when I email and ask questions or reach out for clarification for something also rarely receive a response. For example: I schedule a "make up" class that they gave me dates for and turns out they are closed that day. When I emailed them asking them how will the make up go since they are closed, no response. Like MANY others have said communications sucks here. Unprofessional management brining kids to work and handles communication poorly, not returning emails and phone calls. The last straw was my youngest wasn't feeling good so obviously he didn't attend the class but I had my 1 year older fill in on his class that's shorter in length and then we he tried to attend his class later they said no because it's unfair to kids if he attends both. Not sure how it's unfair when I PAY for both classes and am not asking for make up days. How can something be unfair if I'm paying for it. Doesn't make sense to me. However, I explained to them I already cancelled my membership and that this was their last class because of all these instances and they allowed my son in his normal class, after constant back and forth with phone tag between the instructor and assistant manager. If anyone has any more questions, I can provide more proof of them never answering the phone, or not responding to my voicemails but then leaving notes in my account with no call back letting me know. I've written a review before for this gym but wanted to write an updated one. After years of going to SDG for her gymnastics classes, my daughter wanted to have her birthday party there. Since her birthday fell during the Olympics, she wanted to have an Olympic-themed gymnastics party. Initially it seems a little expensive, but compared to other hosted party options out there, it's actually very reasonably priced at SDG. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but we got there with our party supplies, and the coaches helped (did most of) the setup for us. Once guests arrived, the coaches took the kids out for the activity portion, which all the kids LOVED. Coach Cat and Coach Sapphira were both very engaged and attentive to all the kids and kept a close watch on all of them. They had things so well under control to the point where it was the first birthday party I've ever done where I felt I could take a breath and know everyone was taken care of. I actually even got to talk to a few parent friends! When it was time to stop for pizza and cake, the coaches even made sure the kids washed their hands before going to eat. Might seem like a small thing but I was so appreciative of them remembering to do that. It ended up being the least-stressful kids party I've ever experienced. All the kids loved the party and my daughter was so happy. read more

2 years ago my daughter wanted to move from Taekwondo to Gymnastics. I can't express how choosing SDG Otay Ranch was the best choice.
